**One Process to Rule Them All: How We Killed Our Microservices โ for Testing, Dev Envs, and Local Development**
โMicroservices are great in production. Everywhere else, they're expensive, slow, and painful. We'll show how we collapsed our entire service fleet into a single process โ first to replace our mock-heavy tests with fast, real E2E tests that boot every service in-process; then to slash Kubernetes dev environment costs by replacing a pod-per-service with a single pod; and finally to enable fully local development with instant feedback, zero deploy cycles, and real debugging. Same architecture, three wins.

โUnblocking the Node.js Event Loop: Real-World Troubleshooting In a NodeJS Consumer
โWhat happens when a perfectly healthy and robust Node.js service suddenly stops responding, fails its health checks and gets killed by Kubernetes?
โIn this talk, Iโll share a real production incident from a high-throughput, Kafka-driven system, where a single consumer began collapsing under unusually large datasets.
โWhat initially looked like a routine performance issue quickly turned into a deeper investigation: growing lag, stalled processing, misleading signals, and a bottleneck hiding far from where we first looked.
โWeโll walk through the debugging journey step by step, examine practical profiling techniques to narrow down the search, and ultimately uncover the real root cause.

โImplementing Distributed locking algorithms in Node.js
โDescription
โProtecting shared sensitive shared resources from race conditions is hard enough when running in a single process. Let's make it harder: how do you do it in a distributed system? Scale it up and run it in a production system that serves millions of transactions. See where weโre going here?
โIn this talk, I will take you along our journey of implementing distributed locks in Node.js, how they broke, and how we evolved our algorithm over time to support thousands of requests per second in a mission-critical financial system. We will discuss different ways to implement distributed locking, using different tools and approaches. Learn how to improve performance to support more than 10,000 transactions per second which are all trying to access the same resource while running workflows on multiple data centers and how to verify it doesnโt break.

The Mythical Data Warehouse: The World Is Hybrid
Dear Illinois Prairie PUG members,
Our next meetup will take place in a **new location**. Please read **the whole announcement** carefully to note all the changes.
Our new meeting place is **Chicago Innovations at 1 W. Monroe**.
*Talk Title*: pg_lake: Unifying transactional and analytical data with Postgres
*Speaker*: Elizabeth Christensen, Snowflake
*Talk Description*
The data world used to be defined by โtransactional" (OLTP) and โanalyticalโ (OLAP) workloads, but weโve asked ourselves, โWhy not both?โ A new series of extensions called pg_lake has just been released to connect Postgres to object storage and open table formats - like csv, Parquet, and Iceberg. pg_lake bridges the two worlds of transactional and analytical data for a vendor neutral, open source, unified data stack.
This talk will explore the pg_lake extension, including how to build it, and demos of using it with modern data workloads in object storage like Amazon S3. Weโll create simple data pipelines with no ETL and high performance analytics.
pg_lake is more than just an extension. It is the foundation to a fully unified data path with 100% open source tools backed by PostgreSQL, DuckDB, Iceberg, and Polaris.
*Agenda*
5:20 - doors open
5:30 - pizza arrives
6:00 - 6:10 - Hettie D. Opening remarks
6:10- 6:20 - Hettie D. Data warehouse history overview
6:20 - 6:50 Elizabeth C. pg_lake: Unifying transactional and analytical data with Postgres
6:50 - 7:00 Q&A
7:00 - 7:50 - Open discussion and networking
7:50 - 8:00 - Cleanup time and closing
*Notes about our new venue*.
I am delighted to have an independent venue for the first time since I am hosting the meetups. I hope that this will be our permanent home. And as you all know, with more freedom comes more responsibilities.
You will notice the change in the RSVP form.
We are thankful to our hosts and promise to be responsible.
We comply with the [PostgreSQL Code of Conduct](https://www.postgresql.org/about/policies/coc/).
We do not want to waste food, so please indicate your dietary preferences.
We will not close the RSVP in the morning of the meetup, but please do your best to RSVP in advance so that we can order the appropriate amount of food and drinks.
Also, all meetups will be hybrid - please don't forget to indicate whether you are attending in-person or virtually.
Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you all at our new location!
