The Psychology and Personal Growth Circle: Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
Welcome to our cozy **The Psychology and Personal Growth Circle** which is part of the Social Book Club!
We will meet to discuss the book “**Antifragile**" (426 pages) written by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.
The idea is to connect with like minded readers that love to grow and get to know themselves better through reading and especially applying knowledge from books.
We meet up once a month and talk about our progress applying knowledge from a certain book and our experience.
The event will take place at the volunteer organisation **MUT**.
It is an organisation to supports humans, animals and the environment especially in Vienna.
MUT or the Social Book Club look forward to some donation to cover the cost of this event.
If you would like to help, please bring some cash with you.
Book Description:
In The Black Swan Taleb outlined a problem; in *Antifragile* he offers a definitive solution: how to gain from disorder and chaos while being protected from fragilities and adverse events. For what he calls the "antifragile" is one step beyond robust, as it benefits from adversity, uncertainty and stressors, just as human bones get stronger when subjected to stress and tension.
See you then!
All the best

Open Dialogue – Discovering Together in Vienna
We will meet in a calm and friendly place ( Parc, Café, Restaurant) to explore together some of Jiddu Krishnamurti’s key questions about awareness, relationship, and freedom.
There will be no teaching, no authority — only open dialogue and attentive listening.
Everyone is welcome, whether you are familiar with Jiddu Krishnamurti or simply curious about life and self-understanding.
We’ll start with an open conversation around a theme such as “Listening without judgment” or “Can thought bring clarity?”
Please bring openness, curiosity, and a readiness to listen — no books or notes needed.
The spirit is not to discuss “what should be,” but to observe together “what is.”
A-B-SEE – Cinema of Challenge
**A-B-SEE** is a serious, responsible idea; intended strictly for the strong of heart and anti-dogmatic, open-eyed, and courageously curious cinematic adventure seekers.

*Leave your comfort zone outside.*

Funday Stand Up Comedy Open Mic @The.Comedy.Pub
**Funday – The ultimate English-speaking Open Mic at The Comedy Pub. New jokes, new faces, and big laughs every Sunday! Free entry!**
**[🎫 Grab your tickets now and let's turn this Sunday into a day of laughter and unforgettable memories. See you there!](https://www.universe.com/events/funday-english-stand-up-comedy-open-mic-the-comedy-pub-tickets-5JTXWR?ref=MeetUp)**
Kick off your week with a laugh at **Funday**, the ultimate English-speaking Open Mic at **The Comedy Pub**! Here, seasoned comedians and brave newcomers take the stage to try out their best jokes, wildest stories, and most daring punchlines. From sharp one-liners to hilarious life stories, you never know what you’re going to get—but it’s always entertaining!
### 🤔 **What is an Open Mic?**
An **Open Mic** is the testing ground for comedians. It’s where pros fine-tune their new material, and fresh faces take their first step into the spotlight. It can be amazing…or a total mess—but that’s the beauty of it! The audience gets to witness comedy in its rawest form: unfiltered, unpredictable, and absolutely unique.
### 🍻 **The Comedy Pub – Vienna's Only Dedicated Stand-Up Comedy Club!**
Located in the heart of Vienna at **Kettenbrückengasse 7**, **The Comedy Pub** is the city’s premier destination for live English-speaking stand-up. With its cozy Irish pub atmosphere, a fantastic selection of drinks, and an intimate stage, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy a night of comedy. Our club is dedicated to bringing you the best laughs, week after week.
### 💡 **Why is it Free? (Donation-Based Event!)**
Comedy needs an audience—your laughter, your reactions, even your groans help comedians sharpen their jokes. That’s why entry is free, and donations are welcome. If you had a great time, show some love. If you didn’t…well, there’s always next week!
### 🎟️ **Audience Guidelines:**
To make sure everyone has a great time, here are a few things we ask:
* **Be on time:** We start right on schedule.
* **Follow the rules:** It’s really not that hard.
* **Laugh when it’s funny:** Your reactions shape the show.
* **Donate if you enjoyed it:** Show your appreciation for the laughs.
* **No heckling:** You will lose. Every time.
* **No talking during the show:** Respect the performers and your fellow audience members.
This isn’t your living room—it’s a privilege to be here. If you disrupt the show, the audience, or the comedians, you’re out. No refunds, no second chances. We’re here for good vibes and great comedy—don’t mess that up.

Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles.
Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and moderated by the curator.
WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. In this sense, the film is always merely the current highlight in an explorative, ongoing group discussion.
**FilmStory** is a members-only series that involves a closely knit community of cinephiles. Events take place every Sunday in a comfortable, private setting with limited capacity. Participation is reserved primarily for regular members, but we're always ready to make new friends!
Non-regular members may request to meet the community and, upon acceptance as a "new joiner," are welcome to participate in one event, according to space availability. New joiners are asked to make a €6 member dues contribution in advance of the requested date. New members receive a message of confirmation and the address of the Living Room in 1080 Vienna upon receipt of their dues contribution.
**FilmStory** is presented and hosted by **[KulturSalon Wien](https://www.meetup.com/kultursalon-wien/)**.

Ecstatic Dance - Ecstatic Journey
**Family of Abundance**
Sonntag, 26.04.2026
Was danach passiert, entscheiden wir zusammen. Singen. Tanzen, ganz sanft, ganz akustisch.
Nah. Warm. Getragen.
Dann lassen wir gemeinsam ausklingen. Jeder bleibt solange er will – mit weiterem Essen, Musik und was sich aus der Entspanntheit heraus öffnet.
**Ablauf**
🍲 16:00 Gemütliches Ankommen mit Potluck
💎 17:30 Abundance Circle mit Zeremonie
🪔 18:00 Wohlfühlraum & Kakao – gemeinsam im Abundance-Feld verankern
🎶 19:00 Wahlprogramm – Singen, Tanzen, Circle weiterführen (sanft & akustisch)
🌺 21:00 Sound Journey mit Kuddle Circle
🪷 22:00 Offenes Ende – Essen, Musik, Familie
🌿Als Beitrag, nimm bitte dein Lieblingsgericht und einen Förderbeitrag für unseren Raum mit.

Democrats Abroad Community Event
Join us in the American tradition of civic engagement by helping us clean up the Kaiserwiese in Prater 🌳 (near the Riesenrad)!
We particularly welcome young children and teens (and their parents!) who want to model "giving back" to the community. We are doing this in support of Vienna's MA48's "Wien räumt auf" (Vienna Cleans Up) initiative.
With any luck it will be a beautiful day and a great chance to get to know other Americans and feel good about pitching in!
You can RSVP on our [website](https://www.democratsabroad.org/jenniferrakowstepper/daat_2026_comedy-3) so we know how many people to expect, or just show up!
Run+B-fast
Hi Running fellows,
Whether you’re a walker, new to running, a semi-pro, a marathonist or a sprint star - if you want to start your weekend in an active way and enjoy the outdoors in lovely surroundings with a fun, international and multilingual group of people, you are welcome to join us!
Every Saturday at 9:30 am, we meet, we run, in the magnificent Schönbrunn park, and then we go for breakfast.
Want to discuss politics or the best recipes for banana pancakes? Not a problem. Not feeling social? Tune out with your earbuds - we can talk over breakfast. We are casual. You can be too.
What to expect: Start by meeting Adrian, Ali, Liz, Paul and Sonia on-time at 9:30am outside the Schönbrunn U-Bahn stop (exit Grünbergstraße). (Coordinates: 48.1858130, 16.3200640) From there, we walk to the side park entrance where the “running” part begins. The important thing is that you run at your own pace. Typically, small groups of people will run at the same pace as you, so you never have to walk/run alone :)
We finish one hour later, at about 10:40am, reconvening just inside the Hietzinger Tor exit. (Coordinates: 48.1858825, 16.3032647). From there, we’re off to breakfast!
Breakfast Details: Anker bakery opposite the U4 Hietzing station and depending on the weather, grab something for a picnic in Schönbrunn park, or hang out in the bakery. If you missed us earlier, you can always go there around 10:45.
We are a fun group of runners who don’t take things too seriously. We meet, chat, RUN, stretch, chat, EAT and we hang out over a beer every now and then. It's that easy. Please join us for breakfast after the run! The more the merrier.
Typically we are 10-30 people, as not everyone who comes signs up on meetup.
Important disclaimer: Please only run as much as you feel you can, considering the temperature, weather conditions, your own fitness etc... run and walk at your own pace as the organizers do not assume any liability for any injuries or health issues. Sonia, Adrian, Ali, Paul and Liz

Duty vs. Results: What Makes an Action Moral?
When judging morality, should we prioritize **intentions/duty** or **outcomes/results**? It introduces two influential philosophers as representatives of these approaches.
* **Immanuel Kant (deontology):** An action is moral when it is done from **duty** and follows rational, universal principles (the **categorical imperative**). Certain acts—like lying—are wrong regardless of the consequences; you can’t do a wrong thing for a right reason.
* **John Stuart Mill (utilitarian consequentialism):** The morality of an action is determined by its **effects**, specifically how much **happiness/well-being** it produces. Mill argues that some pleasures are “higher” than others, and that good intentions don’t redeem harmful outcomes.
## Discussion Questions
1. **The lying dilemma:** A murderer comes to your door and asks if your friend is hiding inside. Kant would say you must not lie.
2. **Can good intentions rescue a bad outcome?**
3. **The organ harvest problem:** A surgeon has five patients dying of organ failure and one healthy patient in for a checkup. Killing the one to harvest organs would save five lives, and the math works out for the utilitarian. Why does this feel so deeply wrong? Is that feeling a point in Kant's favor, or just a bias we should overcome?
4. **Do rules need exceptions?** Kant insists moral rules must be universal, with no exceptions. But most of us can imagine extreme scenarios where any rule seems like it should bend. Does the need for exceptions fatally undermine deontology, or is the strength of the system precisely that it refuses to bend?
5. **Who gets to calculate the consequences?** Utilitarianism asks us to maximize good outcomes, but we're notoriously bad at predicting consequences. If we can't reliably know the results of our actions, is it practical to base our entire moral system on outcomes? Does this uncertainty push us back toward rules and principles?
6. **Everyday morality:** Think about a real moral decision you've made recently, even a small one. Did you reason more like a Kantian (what's the right thing to do in principle?) or more like a utilitarian (what will produce the best result?)? Do most people naturally lean one way?
7. **Justice vs. the greater good:** A town can prevent a deadly plague by sacrificing one innocent person. The greater good is clearly served. But is it just? Can an action be morally right and deeply unjust at the same time?
8. **The big synthesis question:** Are these two systems actually opposed, or do they often arrive at the same answers by different paths? Is it possible that we need both: rules to guide us in the moment and consequences to evaluate systems and policies over time?
