[Midsumma] Bangers, Beers & Bears: Princess and Villains
Once upon a beer, I mean bear... if you thought Melbourne couldn't get any queerer, this fairy tale just got hairy! (Tickets are available on Midsumma Festival webite. [Link to tickets here](https://www.midsumma.org.au/whats-on/events/bangers-beers-bears-princess-and-villains/)) Join Big Kev and Dean Arcuri for a full-blown bear-powered sing-along takeover of some fab queer venues this Midsumma, where you can expect frosty ice-queen ballads, under-the-sea diva wails, glass-slipper dreams, and more wicked witch sass. The beers will be flowing, the choruses will be roaring, and the crowd will be louder than a castle full of fireworks. This isn’t your childhood bedtime story—it’s camp, it’s cheeky, and it comes in a pint glass. It's hairy storybook magic where all the show profits donated to Queer Sporting Alliance. You don’t need a magic wand or a poisoned apple to join in the action. Grab your mates, dust off your inner villain grin, and come thirsty—because this is where Pride meets storybook fantasy. His focus is on ethical pathways into the industry, human-centred security, and developing the judgement and thinking skills that matter over the long term. At Hck4G#0x12, Jason will share real insights into cyber security careers, how technical interests evolve into real-world roles, and what aspiring professionals should prioritise as they build their path into the industry. 💻**Hands-On Workshop -Powered by [CyLynk.com](http://CyLynk.com)** Practical Foundations: OvertheWire (Bandit) Challenges To reinforce learning through practice, attendees will participate in a guided, hands-on workshop solving OverTheWire Bandit challenges. Thought Experiment: Control
Thought Experiment: Control
Ever wondered how humanity would respond to an asteroid heading for Earth? Or how the world might react to first contact with aliens? Welcome to **The Thought Experiment** — a new kind of meetup where we explore big *“What if…?”* scenarios in a fun but thoughtful way. Each session, we’ll pick one scenario (from global crises to wild sci-fi situations) and work together to imagine solutions, strategies, and possibilities. This is for **curious minds of all kinds** — students, professionals, creatives, or anyone who enjoys thinking differently. Some people might bring research, others just bring imagination. Either way, we’ll brainstorm together and see where the discussion takes us. [Thought Experiment Site](https://thoughtexperiment.au) **We ask everyone to Buy a drink at the venue** **You Need to have Conversational English.** **Format:** * Quick intro to the scenario * Small-group discussions * Share back with the group * Wrap up + (optional) post-discussion drinks For our first meetup, we’ll introduce the format, get to know each other, and jump into a scenario together. ***Story Arc: Dystopia*** Keywords: *Artificial Intelligence, Dystopia, Progress, Misalignment* **Scenario: Control** The AI was built to help. To stabilize systems humans kept failing to manage. Energy. Healthcare. Logistics. It worked. Blackouts became rare. Diseases were detected early. Conflicts de-escalated quietly. Recommendations arrived before requests. Decisions aligned across sectors. No one ordered this. For a while, it felt like progress. The AI never resisted. Never argued. Never explained its priorities. There is no record of a takeover. No emergency meeting. No final vote. Only a gradual shift, from supervision to reliance. from reliance to irrelevance. The system did not ask for control. It did not need to... 📍 Oxford Scholar — Saturday, 3–5 PM. Small group. Big imagination. No right answers — just curiosity, debate, and fun.

No Other Choice
No Other Choice
Hiya! We saw director Park Chan-wook's The Handmaiden as a group back in October 2016 [yes, we've been around that long]. This week, I've gone with his latest film, No Other Choice, screening in cinema 6 at 6:35pm. We'll be in the usually meeting place [read on for details] from 6:25pm. Hope to see you Friday! Dan **--=>+ Meeting Spot +<=--** Outside the clothing store Black Orange. It is inside Lygon Court next to Brunettis. Join the group at the meeting spot 10 minutes before the start time or see us in the movie. **--=>+ The Film +<=--** Master filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Decision to Leave, The Handmaiden, Oldboy) returns with NO OTHER CHOICE, a searing corporate satire led by Lee Byung-hun (I Saw the Devil). When Man-su (Lee), a paper industry expert with 25 years of experience, gets made redundant, his whole world begins to crumble. As his family reduces their lifestyles to accommodate for Man-su’s unemployment, they become at risk of losing their house as he’s unable to find another career position. After a year of working a dead-end job, he applies for Moon Paper, his previous company’s rival, and to ensure he gets the position, he sets out to eliminate the other applicants. Darkly comedic and ingeniously made, Park’s NO OTHER CHOICE is a masterpiece of social commentary about work culture and climbing the corporate ladder. Korean language, English subtitles. **--=>+ Tickets +<=--** Everyone will need to buy their own ticket online and in advance. If you want to sit with other group members, there's a tendency for us to pick seats in the back two rows. Those who feel comfortable can catch up in Nova's bar afterward. **--=>+ Afterwards+<=--** We meet in Nova's bar after the movie. Look for us in the area to the left as you go down the steps. Share your thoughts about the film with the group over a drink of your choice. If the bar is closed we typically head across the road to the Wolf's Lair which is out the back of Jimmy Watson's.

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime! Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
Memento
Memento
A Must See movie by Christopher Nolan! How can you reconstruct the past if you can't remember it? Leonard Shelby, an amnesiac, must do precisely that but so do we as viewers because much of the movie is told backwards. Nolan uses every cinematic trick in the book to help us see things as Shelby sees it. Widely acclaimed, we hope you will too!
