Finding Java Memory Leaks, AI Agentic Setup and Fraude Detection
We are going back to Brussels, which means we'll once again be teaming up with the [Brussels Java User Group](https://www.meetup.com/brujug/) <3. We'd like to thank [Adesso ](https://www.adesso.be/)for graciously hosting! This edition features **3 talks**! * *Finding Java Memory Leaks with Heap Dumps (JDK 25)* by [Badr Kacimi](https://www.linkedin.com/in/badr-kacimi/) * *Vibe Coding a Home Server on the Raspbery Pi, What AI-Native Development Actually Looks Like* by [Wim De Troyer](https://www.linkedin.com/in/wim-de-troyer-40647b130/) * *Fraud detection on card transactions, Supervised learning with extreme imbalanced data using Python* by [Franck Benault](https://www.meetup.com/members/127308222/) Come join us for this next event! **Schedule** \- 18:00: Doors open \+ Food and Drinks \- 18:45: Intro and BeJUG updates \- 18:50: Talk 1 \- *Fraud Detection* \- 19:05: Talk 2 \- *Vibe Coding a home server on the raspberry pi.* \- 19:30: Little break \- 19:45: Talk 3 \- *Finding Java Memory Leaks with Heap Dumps (JDK 25)* \- 20:30: Mingling \+ Drinks **Topics** **Finding Java Memory Leaks with Heap Dumps (JDK 25)** This talk will demonstrates how to identify, analyze, and fix Java memory leaks using heap dumps and practical JVM diagnostic tools in JDK 25. **About Badr** Badr Kacimi is a Senior Software Engineer at ABN AMRO Bank and GenAI Whisperer at Blue Harvest Belgium. With a strong Java background in large-scale banking and booking platforms, he now builds financial risk models in Python. **Vibe Coding a Home Server on the Raspbery Pi: What AI-Native Development Actually Looks Like** It's been over 3 years since the release of ChatGPT and the innovations in the AI space still do not seem to be slowing down. On the contrary, agentic tooling like Claude Code and Codex have since launched, kept improving, and according to some have now recently reached an inflection point where they can handle long running coding tasks (mostly) unsupervised. Let's find out together if those claims hold up and what that new AI native development looks like. We'll do this by showcasing a very personal case study. Over the past few months, I've developed a home-server setup on my raspberry pi with tons of weird and quirky apps all developped with varying degrees of AI assistance. Join me to find out how that went, how much time I saved (or wasted!) and my biggest take-aways and future plans. **About Wim** Wim is a freelance Software Engineer from Belgium with around 7 years of experience. He focuses on backend web development, using the Spring Framework on a daily basis. He's a firm believer in learning something new everyday (not just about java or spring!) and doing so in public is always the greatest motivator. So he blogs on wimdetroyer.com, and talks occasionally in front of an audience when he can muster up the courage. **Fraud detection on card transactions, Supervised learning with extreme imbalanced data using Python** I will explain: * The context and the goal of this work (supervised learning) * The challenges related to the data (availability and preparation) * The strategies to apply when dealing with severe class imbalance **About Frank** Research and development engineer in computer science, Java developer, passionate about physics, astronomy, and cosmology.

Body, Movement and Silence: An Experiential Workshop
Body, Movement and Silence: An Experiential Workshop
**Body, Movement and Silence: An Experiential Workshop** By Katerina Ioannou Brussels, 25 March 2026 Register here: https://www.imaginationclub.org/brussels/body_movement_silence.php In this workshop, we’ll explore how we express ourselves and connect with others — not through words, but through our bodies, movement, and the space between us. We’ll play with simple exercises that invite spontaneity, imagination, and a sense of presence. There’s no right or wrong way — just what feels true for you in the moment. What you might discover \* New ways to listen — to yourself and others — without relying on language. \* A sense of freedom in expressing what’s alive for you, however it wants to emerge. \* A shared moment at the end, where we reflect with a word or image on what moved us. **Who it’s for** This is for anyone who wants to explore, play, and see what unfolds when we let go of expectations. No experience is needed—just come as you are. **About Katerina** Katerina Ioannou (B.Sc. in Occupational Therapy, M.Sc. in Person-Centred Psychotherapy) specialises in mental health support, group facilitation, and personal development. Based in Brussels, she empowers individuals and groups through therapy, occupational rehabilitation, and innovative methods like theatrical play. You can also find Katerina on... Debate Night: Remote Work
Debate Night: Remote Work
One of the defining changes caused by the COVID-19 pandemic is the proliferation of remote work, alternatively known as telework or work from home. Technology had been advancing to the point that many jobs could be done at least in part from home. With a work laptop, video calling, a stable internet connection, and a cyber security program, many office jobs can be done at home without any serious hindrance. When COVID started, many white collar employees became full time remote workers. Six years after the start of the pandemic, many of these people still work at least in part from home. Recent years have seen rising skepticism about remote work, particularly among management. Questions have been raised about whether people working from home are as productive or efficient as those in the office. Similarly, whether work culture can be as effectively created with people often working from home has also become a topic of discussion. Long story short, remote work is, to some degree, here to stay. But to what degree? Do the costs outweigh the benefits? Come discuss this at Brussels Debaters!

The building address is 4450 Bridge Park The entrance is 6620 Mooney St, Suite 400 **Abstract** Web Forms gave .NET developers a powerful abstraction for building reusable UI controls long before design systems were a thing. Web Components finally bring that same idea to the browser natively. This session explores how the Web Forms mindset translates into Custom Elements, Shadow DOM, and HTML templates. We’ll examine how Web Components enable design systems that work across frameworks, how they differ from server‑driven controls, and why they’re becoming a foundational layer for modern UI. Whether you’re maintaining legacy apps or building greenfield projects, you’ll leave with a practical understanding of how to apply familiar patterns in a modern, standards‑based way. **YouTube Link** TBA
