Shut Up & Write!™ Copenhagen
Shut Up & Write!™ Copenhagen
Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at our Copenhagen Shut Up & Write! sessions. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, résumé, melody, poem, or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: - 15 minutes of hellos and getting settled; maybe some quick intros. - Then, the timer starts! : writing for 1 hour. - After the hour is up... chat / take off / keep writing, if you're on a roll. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens once the hour of writing is complete. Writing can be very solitary... connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. It's best to be on time, but BEING LATE IS ALSO OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check in with us after the session. (We’ll be the ones with the small Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer. What Should I Bring? Whatever you need to be able to write! Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.
Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill
Outwitting the Devil by Napoleon Hill
Suggested by Anna. At first glance, this likely just looks like a dusty old self-help book, and with the pervasive thinking that newer is always better and that we live in unique times, one might just think that surely this can't be worthy of one's time. Maybe that impulse is correct, but disregarding that impulse (or never having it in the first place) and looking a bit closer, one might find it interesting to have stumbled upon a book which is primarily available together with a commentary - both in written and in audiobook format. Why is that, one might wonder, while feeling enticed to read it just because of this revelation. According to posts on forums the audiobook's commentary doesn't improve the listening experience and many people seem to think the same way about the text - that's it's better as-is, and that one might read the commentary later if one wishes instead of more or less forced to as it's intertwined with the original text. So, the recommendation is to read the original text and see what we make of it. Apart from this obvious drama (how better to promote a book than to ban it, or at least tell you that you need modern explaining to read it?) the book seems to be interesting because it seems to be a part of the bootstrapping era for self-help books directed at a wide audience. Like Dale Carnegie's books, perhaps. Such classics are always fun and interesting to read, as they offer glimpses of how a genre for the reading public is born. Goodreads sells the book as follows: \`\`Following the success of his 1937 landmark bestseller, Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill wrote Outwitting the Devil, an exposé on the methods the Devil uses to ensnare and control the minds of human beings. Exploring the innermost depths of the psychology of motivation to understand why so many individuals, including himself, cannot find the initiative and courage they need to consistently implement the philosophy of individual achievement, Hill went so far as to interview the Devil himself. The resulting confession from the Devil made this book so controversial as to remain unpublished for over 70 years. Now it is your turn to break the Devil's code and free yourself from the hidden methods of control that lead to ruin. In this reproduction of the complete text of Hill's original manuscript is laid out the exact nature of the power by which the Devil disarms human beings with fear, procrastination, anger, and jealousy so that they do not reach their full potential. This is the same power that paralyzed millions of individuals with fear and despondency during the Great Depression and continues to hold people back from their dreams. Complacency and mediocrity are not the root issue; they are symptoms of deeper ills that we are conditioned by society to accept. But you must open your mind to acquire knowledge and consider facts that might not harmonize with your personal beliefs in order to access a greater truth that will, as Hill said in his original preface, "bring harmony out of chaos in this age of frustration and fear." \`\` This is a very short book - at least for this book club -, hence the quite quick re-meet. The paperback version of this book, published by Adultbrain Publishing (ISBN:9781069049544), is 178 pages while the audiobook, also published by Adultbrain Publishing (ISBN:9798868702471), is five hours and twenty one minutes.

Coffee Talk
Coffee Talk
Fulfillment. Joy. – Do you know what it is? Do you feel it now? Many of us are living lives that have “just sort of happened”. We had a dream, a vision (maybe we still do) for what we wanted our lives to look like. Somewhere along the way, life took over and something else ended up happening. We made decisions, took a turn down a path, and now our life isn’t what we thought it would be. Or we’re living someone else’s life. Maybe it’s what our parent’s wanted for us. What we believe our partner or a potential partner might want. Or maybe it’s what we believe we need to do and have to be happy. I was one of these people. My life checked all the boxes for what I thought I needed in order to be happy. And still, I wasn’t. Join me for a coffee talk on what it means to live a Life By Design. Where your choices are deliberate and based on your authentic, true self. What you have to let go off to achieve this (hint: the notion that vulnerability is a weakness and feelings of fear and guilt) and who you will become in the process.

Silvers Dinner Wednesdays: Behind the Scenes with Dorte
Silvers Dinner Wednesdays: Behind the Scenes with Dorte
Tickets here: [www.thesilvers.dk](http://www.thesilvers.dk) Here in Copenhagen we have started a movement of weekly dinners (on a Wednesday) hosted by the senior generation in their own homes. Seniors with 60+ years of life experience who are community leaders, intellectuals, artists, storytellers, and want to share their experience over dinners for a small group each time. Every Wednesday there is dinner hosted by a different Silver (senior host) who will open their front door, welcome a group of 5-8 people into their home, and share their stories, knowledge, and connections across the table over a themed evening. Each host chooses their own theme and it is the aim to pass on their hard-earned knowledge. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- This week the host is: Dorte! Dorte has over 30 years of experience as a scenographer, artist, and storyteller, creating spaces that spark imagination and reflection. Over a homemade meal at her Frederiksberg home, Dorte will share stories from her life on and off stage, and invite guests to explore how creativity — in any form — can open new ways of thinking, connecting, and moving forward. Expect a dinner that feels both intimate and imaginative, guided by a thoughtful host who knows how to turn an evening into an experience.

The 40 Rules of Love
The 40 Rules of Love
**First Gathering: Love as Transformation** Reading: **The Forty Rules of Love** by **Elif Shafak** We begin Men, Meaning, and Madness with a novel that treats love not as sentiment, but as a force that disrupts, humbles, and reshapes the self. The Forty Rules of Love explores love as discipline, surrender, and moral risk. It asks what happens when certainty breaks, when the ego is wounded, and when meaning is found not through control, but through transformation. This gathering is for men interested in serious literature and honest inquiry into how love shapes character, responsibility, and the inner life. Discussion will be guided by questions rather than summaries. The aim is depth, not debate. Come having read the book or engaged with it seriously.
