Books for Bats ๐ฆ๐ | Silent Book Club Melbourne Fundraiser
Silent Book Club Melbourne is hosting a special **in-person fundraiser** in support of **[Fly By Night Bat Rescue](https://www.flybynight.org.au/)** โ a volunteer-run organisation caring for injured and orphaned flying foxes and microbats across Victoria.
**The idea is simple:**
We read quietly together, just like always โ and we raise funds to support flying foxes and bats who urgently need our help this week.
**Join us in person for:**
* A relaxed, welcoming Silent Book Club gathering
* Time to read whatever you like (no set book, no pressure)
* A chance to give back to an incredible wildlife rescue
**Why are we doing this?**
Melbourne is forecast to experience its hottest days since 2009. As temperatures soar this week, our critically threatened community of Melbourne flying foxes is at serious risk.
Temperatures over 38ยฐC can cause heat stress.
Temperatures over 42ยฐC can trigger mass fatalities.
We need our flying foxes โ and they need us.
Flying foxes play a vital role in our ecosystem, and Fly By Night Bat Rescue relies on community support to continue their work. Every contribution, big or small, makes a difference.
**How it works:**
* RSVP for the event (please consider [donating](https://www.flybynight.org.au/donate.html) a suggested ticket price of $10 to Fly By Night Bat Rescue).
* Bring your book and get comfy amongst the beautiful trees at Fitzroy Gardens
* Donate if you're able: [Fundraiser by Tamsyn Hogarth : Flying fox mass orphan emergency](https://www.gofundme.com/f/flying-fox-mass-orphaning-crisis?attribution_id=sl:3a8af205-2da6-4344-b5a6-cfeff5453948&lang=en_AU&ts=1769405801&utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=email)
* Read. Rest. Support bats.
All readers are welcome. You donโt need to be a regular Silent Book Club attendee โ just someone who enjoys quiet reading and wants to support a good cause.
๐๐ฆ **Books for Bats โ read quietly, support wildlife.**

What Causes Your Roller Coasters in Life?
Do you sometimes feel like you do well in life then something happens and you slide back, never quite getting ahead.
At this Meetup you'll find out how to identify what actually causes the lows, the highs and everything in between. More importantly youโll get the secret of how to gain control over your life so the highs are higher and the lows go away.
Wouldnโt it be nice to stop the wild roller coaster ride for good? Or at least make it a fun roller coaster ride, with more ups and downs.
There is a hidden factor that will be going over and youโre going to be quite surprised what it is and how much it affects your life.
Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to the event. We look forward to seeing you there.
This group is hosted at the Dianetics and Scientology Life Improvement Center.

Near the beginning of the event (1:30 pm), we do a standup:
* Organizer announcements, updates, and logistics
Round 1 - (7 secs max):
* Your name
* What you're working on
* What you can help others with
Round 2:
* Community events you wanna plug. If none, that's cool too.
Round 3:
* Job opportunities you're hiring for OR announce that you are looking for one. If none, that's cool.
After the introduction circle, everything is self-organized! Feel free to work alone, pair up, attend one of our workshops/presentations, or mingle!

Azure CBUS February: Build Your Own MCP Server
### Tools in your AI's Toolbox : An introduction to MCP Servers
The generative AI revolution has unlocked unprecedented capabilities, but the next frontier is agency: empowering models to interact with, query, and act upon the world. The current challenge is the โN x M integration problem,โ where every AI model requires a custom, brittle integration for each external tool or data source. This approach simply doesnโt scale. How can we give an AI access to our sales leads, code repositories, or IoT devices in a standardized, secure, and reusable way?
This session introduces Anthropicโs Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open-source framework designed to solve this challenge and become the universal connectorโthe USB-C portโfor AI. MCP standardizes how AI models discover and use external tools, moving beyond simple function-calling to a robust, client-server architecture. We will dive into how this open protocol is creating a new ecosystem for building powerful, context-aware AI agents.
Join this session for a developer-focused introduction where you will learn how to:
Understand the core concepts of the open-source Model Context Protocol and its architecture.
Utilize pre-built, open-source MCP servers to instantly connect AI to tools like Git, Slack, and databases.
Build a custom MCP server to securely expose your own proprietary data and APIs as tools for any compliant AI.
Move beyond bespoke integrations and contribute to a standardized, collaborative, and open ecosystem.
Stop building one-off connectors and start building intelligent agents. This session will give you the practical knowledge to leverage MCP and create the next generation of AI that doesnโt just talk, but does.
Want to be a speaker? submit your talk to our Call for Presenters!!!
