So Gabi and Javi want to invite you to the IHL to exchange real-life experiences and ideas to help lighten the load. Many families want to travel more, but don’t know where to begin. Hearing from other parents can be the spark they need. When families travel together (or even just plan alongside others), it becomes a richer, more social experience for both parents and kids. Kids make friends. Parents make friends. **IMPORTANT NOTES:** **Please RSVP only if you are reasonably sure you can attend, and update your RSVP if your plans change so someone from the waiting list can join.** **This bi-weekly walk is open to everyone, but most of our other events are reserved for members (memberships start at €5/year), so feel free to join the group if you’d like to participate more regularly.** Escape the city bustle and join us for a magical evening walk from the royal gardens of Tervuren, through the ancient Sonian Forest, ending at the picturesque Rouge CloĆ®tre. This hike is perfect for anyone looking to unwind, breathe some fresh forest air, and enjoy the golden hour colors. šŸ—ŗļø The Route We will start at the Tervuren Station (terminus of Tram 44). We’ll begin by walking through the formal gardens and ponds of Tervuren Park, enjoying the open views and the sunset light reflecting on the water. From there, we will dive into the Sonian Forest (FĆ“ret de Soignes), walking under the canopy of the majestic beech cathedrals. We will walk through the magnificent Arboretum that boasts centennial trees and majestic Giant Sequoias. The path will lead us gently downhill towards the historic Rouge CloĆ®tre (Red Closter), a 14th-century Augustinian priory nestled on the edge of the forest where we will stop for a well deserved drink. šŸ•’ The Plan * Meeting Time: 14:50 * Meeting Point: Just outside the Tervuren Station (Terminus of Tram 44). * The Walk: We depart at 15:00 sharp. * The End: We aim to arrive at Rouge CloĆ®tre around 18:00 - 18:30. * AprĆØs-Walk: We usually grab a drink at the beautiful Maison du Prieur in Rouge CloĆ®tre. šŸ“‹ Practical Details * Distance: Approximately 12 km. * Duration: \~3.5 hours walking time. * Pace: Casual to moderate. Godinne to Dinant (23km)
Spring is here (according to some definitions) and it's time to move our legs again with a hike from **Godinne to Dinant** (\~23km, 600m elevation). We will walk along the valley of the Maas, but staying by the river is boring so we'll have at least three good climbs, visit a ruined castle, walk above steep cliffs and enjoy some great views. At the end, we will have a drink in Dinant (optional) before taking the train back to Brussels. **There are major engineering works this weekend and the railway is closed between Brussels Zuid and Noord stations - please read the travel information below carefully!** **The weather forecast is sunny and 17C, but prepared for a shower just in case. The path will be muddy and slippery in places so wear good shoes, preferably walking boots.** **We will walk at an average speed of 5km/h. This is quite fast.** We will walk both on paved and unpaved roads. I’ve never walked this route before, so it’s possible there are some mistakes in the planning. **You can find the GPX track here:** [https://mapy.com/s/redejagasu](https://mapy.com/s/redejagasu) **Meeting point and train** We will meet in the main hall of **Brussels Schuman station at 09:00**. The train **IC 2509 (Dinant)** leaves from **platform 2 at 9:16** (you can also join this train at Brussels Luxemburg at 9:28, but **please note it does not call at Brussels Zuid, Centraal or Noord**). It arrives at **10:35 in Godinne**. **Train tickets** \- Single Brussels to Godinne\, € 9\.60 or € 5\.80 with Train\+ \- Single Dinant to Brussels\, € 11\.40 or € 6\.80 with Train\+ You probably want to buy the Train+ card for the price of € 6 (1 month) or € 48 (12 months). It can be bought in the SNCB/NMBS app or at ticket machines. **Train back to Brussels** There are trains every hour at xx:13 from Dinant to Brussels, taking 1h30 to Schuman station. There is an additional connection via Namur every second hour at 15:35, 17:35, 19:35... **Specifics** Distance: \~23 km Elevation gain: \~600 m Net walking time: \~5.5h Level: ***Intermediate (lots of climbing)*** **In the unlikely case of too bad weather, we may cancel a hike, even a few hours before the event. If this happens, we will of course update the Meetup website and send out a message to those registered. On Sunday I am organizing a hike in Dutch Limburg. We will start on the outskirts of Maastricht for a hike along rolling hills. This area is known from the cycling event "Amstel Gold Race". We will mainly walk on unpaved roads and cross a couple of forests. Halfway we enter Belgium again. After walking 1km through Flanders we continue along Walloon territory, to finish in VisĆ©. This town has a good choice of bars to finish our hike with a beer or two. As the number of participants is limited, it is important that you manage your registration responsibly: only sign up if you really intend to come and cancel as soon as you know you can’t (this also goes for people on the waiting list!). We will try to keep close to an average speed of about 5 km/h. We will walk mainly on unpaved roads. I’ve not tested this track beforehand, so it’s possible that there are some mistakes in the planning. ā—ā—You can find the track here: https://loc.wiki/t/252972128?wa=sc ā—ā—Meeting point: We meet at 10h42 in Maastricht-Randwijck. **IMPORTANT: this is not the main railway station in Maastricht!** If you start from Brussels, the best option is to take train IC507 from Schaarbeek to Eupen at 9h12. **IMPORTANT: this weekend there are no direct trains to Eupen from Brussels-South, Central or North.** I am coming from Ghent, so I will be on that train already. You can find me in the first car of the train. In Liege-Guillemins you have ten minutes to change. You should take train S43 towards Aachen Hbf at 10h08. **IMPORTANT: make sure that you take the correct train to Aachen HbF, because there are two trains going that direction.** Make sure that you get out at Maastricht-Randwijck. This is not the main railway station. ā—ā— Train tickets: Return ticket Brussels-Maastricht should be fine. This journey involves a border crossing. ā—ā— Back to Brussels: In VisĆ© there is one train per hour back to Brussels, with a change in Liege. ā—ā— Specifics: Distance: ca 26km Elevation gain: 300m Net walking time: ca 5-6h Weather forecast: Dry and 17 degrees! In the unlikely case of too bad weather, we may cancel a hike, even few hours before the event. If this must happen, we will of course update the Meetup website and send out an email to those registered. The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education.
