From RAII to Substructural Types and Beyond at XM
From RAII to Substructural Types and Beyond at XM
We are happy to announce our next meetup that will be held physically at [XM](https://www.xm.com/), in Athens. After the talk there will be time for Q&A, food and networking. **📍 Location 📍** Michalakopoulou 80 street, 1st floor. Attendees should register with their meetup name at the entrance **⏰ Date & Time ⏰** 12th of February, 19:00 **🔗 Prerequisites & Target audience 🔗** The talk is aimed at developers who are interested in C++. **🇬🇷 Language 🇬🇧** The talk will be in Greek unless there are non-Greek speakers in the audience. **🍀 JetBrains license ruffle 🍀** At the end of the event we will ruffle out 2 yearly licenses for a JetBrains IDE. **📃 Agenda 📃** 19:00 - "Intro, Agenda of meetup" by Dimitris Platis 19:05 - A message from our sponsor - XM 19:10 - "From RAII to Substructural Types and Beyond" by Iosif Arvanitis 20:10 - Pizza, kindly offered by XM 🍕 **🎤 About the talk 🎤** In modern C++ resource management, RAII and move semantics have become ubiquitous. In this talk, we will take a closer look at the underlying mechanisms underpinning the advantages of using these features, and the theory that formalizes them. We will then discuss the powerful implications of the theory and how it influences the wider programming language world. We will move beyond the basics of RAII to explore: \- A primer on substructural types \(affine\, linear\, etc\) \- Connecting substructural types with C\+\+ concepts \(e\.g\. \`unique_ptr\`\) \- Substructural "superpowers": race freedom\, static guarantees and more Under this framework, modern C++ developers can better grasp new language features, design safer APIs, and appreciate influential patterns from other programming languages. **🎤 About the speaker 🎤** Iosif Arvanitis is a Computer Engineering undergraduate at the University of Patras, with a focus on systems programming, concurrent-distributed systems and programming languages. He is currently active in academic research, as well as web development projects.

Athens dbt Meetup #2 - MCP Servers, dbt Fusion & Live AMA with dbt Labs
Welcome back to the **dbt meetup Athens**--our second event and first for 2026. We’re excited to kick off the year with another community gathering, hosted once again at the **Kaizen Campus**. After our first meetup, where the organizers introduced themselves and shared how dbt is used across their companies, we’re switching perspectives. This time, we’re thrilled to welcome **Cormac Buckley (Senior Customer Solutions Architect)** and **Peter Jehl (Solution Architect)** from **dbt Labs** for a session we’ve been eagerly anticipating ourselves. Cormac and Peter will dive into **MCP Servers with dbt** and the **dbt Fusion engine**—but that’s not where it ends. The second half of the event will be a live **Ask Me Anything** session, giving the Greek dbt community a rare chance to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and get insights directly from the experts. Come for the talks, stay for the community. We’re looking forward to seeing familiar faces, meeting new ones, and continuing to grow the dbt community in Athens. 👀 See you there! *** dbt Meetups are networking events open to all folks working with data! Talks predominantly focus on community members' experience with dbt, however, you'll catch presentations on broader topics such as analytics engineering, data stacks, data ops, modeling, testing, and team structures. 🤝**Organizers**: Antonakis T., Kontogeorgos G., Alevizopoulou S., Nikolaou S., Lazaridis Y. 🏠**Venue Host**: [Kaizen Campus](https://maps.app.goo.gl/KxhKGkJimnUDeYAN8) 🍕**Catering**: Pizzas and soft drinks, YAY! **📝Agenda** * 18:30 \- 19:00 \| Check in to Kaizen Auditorium * 19:05 \- 19:30 \| Cormac Buckley \- *MCP Servers* * 19:35 \- 20:00 \| Peter Jehl \- *dbt Fusion Engine* * 20:05 \- 20:45 \| dbt labs \- *Ask Me Anything* * 20:45 \- 21:35 \| Networking & Catering **To attend, please read the Health and Safety Policy and Terms of Participation: [https://www.getdbt.com/legal/health-and-safety-policy](https://www.getdbt.com/legal/health-and-safety-policy)** ➡️ Join the dbt Slack community: https://www.getdbt.com/community/ Since 2016, dbt Labs has been on a mission to help data practitioners create and disseminate organizational knowledge. dbt is the standard for AI-ready structured data. Ping pong #66 🏓- Wednesday - Renti
Ping pong #66 🏓- Wednesday - Renti
**Same stuff, always fun! 😎 🏓** ℹ️ **General info:** Bats (rackets) & balls are provided by the venue (are included in the price). The ping-pong tables have an hourly cost of 8€/hour, per table. Usually we pay 5-6€/person for the whole 1.5 hours. PLEASE, bring some cash on you, unless you have Revolut or IRIS (nope, a 50€ euro bill does not count). 🚗 🚌 **Location**: The venue cannot be reached by metro, so you have to either take a bus or **carpool** with any attending member that will arrive via car. ℹ️ Bus options should be fairly good, since the venue is next to a big amusement park & a mall. ℹ️ Personally, I'll always be coming via car, so I'll have 4 available spots in my car. I can pick you from: * **Egaleo** metro station, blue line, * **Sepolia** metro station, red line, * **Pallini** metro/train station ❗️ If you plan to attend via car and are willing to carpool people, please let me/us know in a PM or event discussion! ❗️ People getting carpooled should be in the agreed location **5 minutes earlier**, so that the driver is not made to wait! No excuses, just be on time (or else people won't offer to carpool any more in the future 😑)! OPTIONAL: Afterwards, we sometimes go at a nearby gyros/fast food restaurant something to eat. ⚡️ Feel free to follow the group [on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/groups/athenssportsfunactivities/)! ⚡️

Azure CBUS February: Build Your Own MCP Server
Azure CBUS February: Build Your Own MCP Server
### Tools in your AI's Toolbox : An introduction to MCP Servers The generative AI revolution has unlocked unprecedented capabilities, but the next frontier is agency: empowering models to interact with, query, and act upon the world. The current challenge is the “N x M integration problem,” where every AI model requires a custom, brittle integration for each external tool or data source. This approach simply doesn’t scale. How can we give an AI access to our sales leads, code repositories, or IoT devices in a standardized, secure, and reusable way? This session introduces Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), the open-source framework designed to solve this challenge and become the universal connector—the USB-C port—for AI. MCP standardizes how AI models discover and use external tools, moving beyond simple function-calling to a robust, client-server architecture. We will dive into how this open protocol is creating a new ecosystem for building powerful, context-aware AI agents. Join this session for a developer-focused introduction where you will learn how to: Understand the core concepts of the open-source Model Context Protocol and its architecture. Utilize pre-built, open-source MCP servers to instantly connect AI to tools like Git, Slack, and databases. Build a custom MCP server to securely expose your own proprietary data and APIs as tools for any compliant AI. Move beyond bespoke integrations and contribute to a standardized, collaborative, and open ecosystem. Stop building one-off connectors and start building intelligent agents. This session will give you the practical knowledge to leverage MCP and create the next generation of AI that doesn’t just talk, but does. Want to be a speaker? submit your talk to our Call for Presenters!!! [https://sessionize.com/azure-cbus-2026/](https://sessionize.com/azure-cbus-2026/)

Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
Data & Analytics Wednesday - Compensation Data
**People Analytics 101: Making Sense of Compensation Data** Compensation data is one of the most widely used and widely misunderstood forms of people analytics. The session will cover where compensation data comes from, including market pricing data, internal payroll data, and benchmarking sources, and how companies think about structuring and analyzing that information. We will explore how compensation data is leveraged to set salary ranges, manage internal equity, support hiring and retention, and align pay with business strategy. A portion of the session will address common data challenges and limitations, such as market noise, inconsistent job matching, and incomplete datasets, while keeping the primary focus on practical use rather than technical depth. The session will also look ahead at where the space is going, including the growing impact of pay transparency laws, expanding pay equity requirements, and emerging regulations in the US and Europe that require organizations to report on gender and pay gaps. The goal is to give attendees a clear mental model for how compensation analytics works today and why getting it right is becoming increasingly critical. (note: we are back at Rev1 this month!) **About Our Speaker** [Alex Moore](https://www.linkedin.com/in/alexscottmoore/) is the founder of [Moore Cooperative](https://moorecooperative.com/), where he advises organizations on compensation strategy, pay equity, and people analytics. His work focuses on helping organizations like the Ohio Supreme Court design, analyze, and communicate compensation systems that are data-informed, defensible, and aligned with organizational goals. Alex lives in Granville, Ohio and has three little kiddos. More info at [cbusdaw.com](https://cbusdaw.com)
