Please join us for our December Romance Book Discussion Club - the last meeting of the year! Location is at my apartment in Dupont. Address and details will be provided to attendees closer to the meeting. Hopefully we can have one final meeting before the holidays and it's not too busy of a time for everyone. Also, please update your RSVP by 6pm the day before, if you're unable to come. That will allow people on the waitlist to have enough time to consider coming, as well. Looking forward to discussing romance books with you all :) \*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\* This month's themes are **Sports Romance** and **Single Dad/Parent**! HumanLight Celebration
HumanLight Celebration
This is a family friendly event so come have informal fun around the Winter Solstice. Light a friendly candle in the hope of making the world a more peaceful and better place. Converse with a fellow freethinker. This is a modern, Human-centered "holiday" celebration is sponsored by the WASH MD chapter. Contact Gary Berg-Cross at gbergcross@gmail.com. While the event is free and open to everyone we'd like to know who plans on coming so contact one of us so that we make proper arrangements. This is planned as family friendly and we are looking forward to a time to chat, eat and chill out in a warm way. We will have: * a rolling pot luck "dinner" (bring what you like bur something that you will enjoy. * Contact Gary to inform him of what you will bring. There is a Google doc link posted to keep track of items at [https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a_Xx2F20I6vwwoDHcDeKVAv-EQQD63lj3IAFI0yuc1c/edit?usp=sharing](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a_Xx2F20I6vwwoDHcDeKVAv-EQQD63lj3IAFI0yuc1c/edit?usp=sharing) . * Candle lighting for Reason, Compassion, and Hope….and maybe a toast for Humanity * And we have our annual free raffle (probably around 7-8) complements of Mary and Fred Edwords. Everyone gets a ticket and will get something with first called getting the item of their choice. Again, this is a free and relatively informal, ritual-free secular celebration near the winter solstice. Background if Humanlight is New to You Humanlight a secular holiday that celebrates Reason, Compassion, and Hope -- and brings people together to recognize the passing of one year as we look forward to a new one.Established by the New Jersey Humanist Network in 2001 HumanLight provides a specifically Humanist celebration with a sense of belonging that families and friends can enjoy near Christmas and the northern Hemisphere's winter solstice as a celebration of "a Humanist's vision of a good future." It’s an event to Illuminating Humanism's Positive Secular Vision that the HumanLight organization promotes to “illuminate Humanism's positive secular vision” and as the AHA said in a 2009 announcement – “affirm the positive values of humanism during the time period of the “traditional” winter holidays.” It’s just a small, fun step towards a new tradition and something to make this December a little bit fuller time for non-believer. ASL Brunch on Sundays in Greenbelt
Join our ASL Brunch on Sundays in Greenbelt! All ASL users and learners are welcome. Brunches are alternately held at two restaurants in Greenbelt, both in the same town plaza. ODD WEEKS: 1st, 3rd, and 5th Sundays, we meet at Cedars of Lebanon, 103 Centerway. EVEN WEEKS: 2nd and 4th Sundays, we meet at New Deal Café,113 Centerway. We are the Greenbelt ASL Community, a group of both Deaf and hearing people who hang out, chat about everyday goings on, trade stories, get to know each other better, and of course, enjoy food together. Many members use ASL as their primary language, several are interpreters or other fluent ASL users, while others are ASL learners who wish to improve their skills while making new friends. Before or after brunch, you can visit the farmer's market and small coop grocery store in the plaza. Please RSVP so we can contact you via email if needed. Our group is on Facebook as Greenbelt ASL Community. Some longtime Brunch attendees don't mark their attendance here, so feel free to stop by even if you don't see others who have RSVP'd on Meet-up.

Our January program is privileged to have Kristen Tregar as our speaker. Ms. Tregar is the co-author with John de Lancie (the actor who portrayed the character Q on Star Trek next generation) of a radio play depicting the events surrounding the Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District trial. The trial decided the issue of some of the Dover school district board members attempting to insert creationism disguised as "intelligent design" into the 9th grade biology curriculum. She will discuss the trial and the process of writing the play. (Bob Leonhard has seen the play and it is riveting and tense). Ms. Tregar's bio is below: Kristen Tregar is a dramaturg, director, playwright, and theatre teacher. She earned her Ph.D. in Drama and Theatre from the UC San Diego and UC Irvine joint program. In addition, she has a MS in Forensic Science from City University of New York- John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a MA in Educational Theatre from New York University- Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. In 2013, in collaboration with Irish colleagues, she founded *The Ireland Project*, an intercontinental devised theatre work with high school students in New York and Tallaght, Ireland. Her original short story "Far From Here" was recently published in *Stay Awhile Longer: More Scenes From Temecula Valley*. She has two rescued dogs (Kira and Harry) and she rides, competes, and foxhunts with her horses, Andromache and Baker Street Irregular. Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk. Going forward our meetings will be hybrid.
