Kintbury circular – delights of the North Wessex Downs
Kintbury circular – delights of the North Wessex Downs
**Highlights** · Rolling hills of north Wessex Downs · Green pastures, quiet woodlands and stately homes · Inkpen Hill and Walbury Hill · Great views towards the South Downs and Oxford · Inkpen Common & Hamstead Park · Walking along the Kennet and Avon Canal · Pretty canal side pub at the end of the hike This is a circular route from the small village of Kintbury in West Berkshire, 8km west of Newbury - come and join if you want to discover an area with a west country feel. The day will start out with us walking over quiet fields, pastures, woodlands as we head our way to the Wessex Downs to climb Inkpen Hill. Views from here are dramatic as we will be able to see north towards Oxford and south towards the South Downs. We continue to Walbury Hill, the highest chalk hill in Berkshire and south east England at a 'great' 297m. We will then drop down to head towards Inkpen Common Nature Reserve & Heathland, then onwards to Hamstead Park and the Kennet and Avon Canal as we circle back to Kintbury for a pretty canal side pub. This will be English countryside in its quintessential west country best, close to London – so come and join! *My walks are at a good pace, but there is always time to pause to take in the views and snap some photos.* **SUMMARY (all info is approximate!)** **Distance**: 24km (approx 14 miles) **Ascent**: 300m **Duration**: 6-7 hours walking **Grade**: Moderate (4km/hr) **COST AND LOGISTICS** **Cost**: £10 **Start**: 8.35am London Paddington for Group Save **Meet:** 8:50am for those who buy their own tickets & walk to train **Finish:** 5.00pm in Kintbury for an optional pub stop. **TRAIN FROM LONDON TO KINTBURY** **Dep**: 09:05 London Paddington **Arr:** 10:20 Kintbury **Return** **trains**: 17.51 (arrive 18:57), 18.53 (arrive 19:56) **Recommended train ticket** Off-Peak Day Return to Kintbury * **£27.10 group save/ network rail price** Recommended: yearly Network Railcard for reduced train prices www.network-railcard.co.uk **Meeting Point:** In front of Heathrow Express Ticket Office by platform 6 **REVIEWS** [Trip Advisor](https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g186338-d19994843-Reviews-AAA_Hiking_Outdoor_Group-London_England.html) \| [Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/AAAHikingUK/reviews) \| [MeetUp](https://www.meetup.com/aaa-outdoor-hiking-adventure-travel/feedback-overview/) **PRICE INCLUDES** * Guided hike planned and led by an experienced AAA leader, trained in Outdoor First Aid. **PRICE DOES NOT INCLUDE** * Travel costs * Lunch, drinks or any refreshments * PayPal fees **RECOMMENDED KIT LIST** [(](https://mailchi.mp/aaalondongroup.com/kitlist)[complete list]()[)](https://mailchi.mp/aaalondongroup.com/kitlist) * Suitable hiking shoes or boots * Packed lunch and snacks * Water - 2 litres recommended * Waterproof jacket and trousers (Please no jeans!) * Warm windproof layer e.g. Down/Primaloft/Fleece * Wicking base layer e.g. Polyester/Tencel/Merino **CANCELLATIONS/ REFUNDS** If you can no longer join the hike, please message the Host listed on here, and update your RSVP status to 'Not going', to allow others to take your place. Brompton Cemetery Poets and Novelists
Brompton Cemetery Poets and Novelists
This event will involve a relatively short meeting at a café or pub near Brompton Cemetery. We will; -grab a coffee -share any poems or poem drafts that you're working on (only if you wish to!) -short (50 words) creative writing challenge using Victorian cemetery related prompt words (again, optional) -a brief history of this cemetery and any famous poet and novelist graves to look out for -finally, break away to stroll in the cemetery grounds to appreciate the beauty, peace, nature, Victorian aesthetic and architecture. Please note that it isn't possible to have organised tour walks around the cemetery itself without parks permission, so we will need to break away informally for the cemetery stroll.

RAIN POLICY: Our walks normally go ahead as planned even if it rains. Light rain is not usually a problem . However if torrentail rain is forecast, please check back to this webpage on the morning of the event around 10am for the latest update. Unfortunately no large dogs and small children are permitted on these walks. **NOTICE of RISKS applicable for all walks:** Please dress appropriately for weather and terrain conditions. Only wear good sturdy shoes, with ankle support, and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and able to walk for at least 8 miles. This walk is suitable for the average experienced hill walker. Expect some hills. Do not attend this walk if you do not fit that description or if you have a medical condition (especially heart and/or lung conditions) that may impact upon your capability of completing the walk. These walks are city walks and countryside walks where all the usual risks of injury during such walks apply resulting from interactions with road traffic, joggers, cyclists, e-scooters,other members of the public, animals (farm, domestic and wild), plants (allergic reactions), uneven surfaces, including portruding tree roots and potholes and there may be low overhanging branches. In these walks we cross busy roads, use towpaths alongside water, bridlepaths, country lanes and sometimes ill defined paths and tracks through woodland, bush and countryside. Some tracks may be muddy and slippery, and conditions may be wet and icy. The walk leader is not and does not purport to be a professional guide, or a medical professional, but is instead a like minded individual who also enjoys hill walking and who is familiar with the intended route. Do not attend this walk unless you accept and consent to the above risks. If you require insurance for these walks then you must arrange this yourself. WANT TO COME ON ANOTHER WALK? 🗣️ Arabic Practice Circle: Social & Structured Session
🗣️ Arabic Practice Circle: Social & Structured Session
A regular meetup for those committed to practising and improving their Arabic. It is designed for those who know the very basics and want a structured opportunity to practise reading, listening, speaking, and building confidence. If you're still learning the very basics but want some motivation to keep going, you're very welcome to join. Note: This is a practice group facilitated by a native speaker - not a formal teacher or taught class, and not a Quran teaching session. 📚 SESSION FORMAT: ⏱️ 30 mins Intro & Social: We'll go around and introduce ourselves in Arabic. Feel free to prepare 2-3 sentences beforehand if you don't like being put on the spot! 🗣️ 60 mins Structured Practice: A focused session practising together with guidance : ◾ Taking turns reading passages aloud ◾ Listening to excerpts from an audiobook ◾ Working together to translate and understand the text 💬 Continued Socialising: Feel free to stick around afterwards for more informal chat and connection. ✊ Note: Active Muslims is equally about focusing on the actual activity, in this case, it is a practice session requiring mental engagement and active participation (and not just a social), therefore it is advised to approach and attend these events with that mindset, intention and purpose. 📍 LOCATION: Barbican ⌚ MEET: By the cafe G Level (Benugo) ⏱️ TIME: Meet from **11:00am** for intros and socialising. The practice session starts promptly at **11:30am** insha'Allah. 🎒 What to bring: 📚 Any Arabic texts you would like to read 🎧 Headphones (optional, if you prefer listening privately) ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ If you can no longer attend, please update your RSVP to free up your spot for someone on the waiting list. ➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖ 🌐 **[@Active.Muslims](https://www.instagram.com/active.muslims)** *(Follow for latest events updates)*

LCC CYCLING TOURS: EV2 Route, Putney to Staines via Richmond Park [15 MILES]
LCC CYCLING TOURS: EV2 Route, Putney to Staines via Richmond Park [15 MILES]
Hello and welcome velocipedestrians! Here at Left Culture Club, we're always looking for new and exciting ways to build community and share experiences while also increasing our ability to kick ass. \ That's why for our latest instalment in the never-ending LCC physical culture series, we're hitting a small section of the [EuroVelo 2 route.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EV2_The_Capitals_Route) This trans-European touring track can supposedly take you all the way from Ireland to Moscow by way of various European capitals, although it's likely you wouldn't be able to do the whole journey past Belarus these days. Our route (EV2 line, shown in red) on the day should be viewable here: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/51.47064/-0.24453&layers=C It starts just outside Putney Bridge station and ends (for us) at Staines. This is our first time organising one of these, so I'll keep it simple. We'll meet out in front of at Putney Bridge station at noon and hit the track together at half past. The route takes us through some beautiful country including right through the heart of the gorgeous Richmond Park, which LCC loyalists will remember from one of our more spectacular nature walks last year. Watch out for the wild deer! **The distance to Staines, from which we can get spacious trains back into central London in about 20 minutes, is approximately 15 miles, so be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks** \- I'll do likewise and be sure to have enough to share\! Bring your own bike and make sure it's fit for service! You can hire a Lime or such like, but for a journey of this distance you'll rack up a serious bill with those parasites. Take care and see you on the roads!

Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to all of YOU for volunteering at this (and any of our previous) CMG Gives Back events! Should be another good/fun/meaningful time together, Dan
