A government-commissioned report recently recommended ways to modernise social and welfare services, making them more people-friendly and less bureaucratic. Well yes, poets often reference the stars, as far as I’m aware, which is a direction into astronomy, or even a gentle encouragement that we should keep our heads up and maintain our wellbeing. For example, the poet Philip Larkin in the poem ‘The North Ship’, in the first poem, tells with hwyl, “Under an fire-spilling star,”. For Poetry & Puls there is the context of the starry sky above us, as when we have no knowledge of astronomy we can’t read the poetry. Since we are interested in reading poetry, Starry Hours are good. Knowledge of the stars is also good for people on the move, and we like to often be on the move.
