A lot of women have said they want a space where they can actually meet and communicate properly, so this is a simple BSL social. It’s a group of women meeting at the bar, practising British Sign Language, chatting properly, and spending a couple of hours together. Most women come on their own. That’s completely normal here and we make sure you don’t feel awkward walking in. Women usually range from their 20s through to their 60s. It’s normally a mix of new and returning women, so you won’t be the only new person there. If you’re feeling nervous, that’s very common. You can message beforehand or on the day and we can help you settle in. We sit on the right-hand side near the brighter seating area at the windows so everyone can see each other properly when signing and chatting. If you can’t find the group, message and someone can come meet you. **What to expect** Some women already know some BSL, others are completely new. The setup makes it easy to actually practise and communicate rather than just sit and watch. You can go at your own pace and join in as much or as little as you want. The group gradually builds signs over time, so regular attendance helps. New women are welcome while the group is still forming, but sessions will eventually build on previous signs rather than restarting from the beginning each time. **Important** This is a female-only lesbian space. It's entirely up to you! **What to Expect at the Intro Circle** \~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~\~ Near the beginning of the event (1:30 pm), we do a standup: * Organizer announcements, updates, and logistics Round 1 - (7 secs max): * Your name * What you're working on * What you can help others with Round 2: * Community events you wanna plug. If none, that's cool too. Round 3: * Job opportunities you're hiring for OR announce that you are looking for one. If none, that's cool. After the introduction circle, everything is self-organized!
