DJ Workshop
### **DNA. Presents "DJ WORKSHOP"**
### **Curious about DJing and ready to try it Yourself?**
This beginner-friendly workshop is Your first real step behind the decks. In 90 minutes, DNA. Member CZECH STRINGS — a multi-genre DJ with 10+ years of experience — walks You through everything You need to know to make Your first mix. No prior knowledge of DJing, music theory, or equipment is required. Zero.
#### **What the workshop covers:**
The session starts with the essentials: what a DJ actually does, what their role is, and how it all comes together. From there, CZECH STRINGS explains the gear using the decks available at the spot as a live example, applicable to any DJ setup You might encounter in the future.
#### **You will learn the core technical skills needed for Your first transition:**
\* Beatmatching — how to align two tracks in tempo
\* Cueing — how to prepare the next track for a seamless entry
\* Track structure and phrasing — understanding how tracks are built so You know when to mix
The teaching happens live from behind the DJ decks. You can follow from Your seat or gather around and watch up close. CZECH STRINGS demonstrates everything on Electronic Music, but can switch to any other genre on request. The techniques taught apply to all rhythmic music.
A part of the session is dedicated to hands-on practice. You will get the chance to step up to the decks and try it Yourself.
#### **Do You need to bring anything?**
Nothing is required. If You'd like to bring Your own music on a USB stick, You're welcome to, but it will only work if the stick is formatted as MS-DOS (FAT) / FAT32 and the tracks have been analysed in Rekordbox beforehand. If that means nothing to You right now, don't worry. There's plenty of music ready to go.
The atmosphere is supportive, focused, and hands-on. This workshop is for anyone curious about DJing who wants to understand the craft, touch real equipment, and leave with a solid first foundation.
#### **Start where You are. Learn the fundamentals. Find Your sound**.
See You soon.
With Love,
[CZECH STRINGS](https://www.instagram.com/czechstrings/) & DNA.

Soundground: free improvised music workshop
**A place to meet sound, without maps**
Facilitated by **Vesti Gium (they/them)**
Everyone enters as they are.
No score. No threshold of skill.
We follow the room, moment by moment—
listening, nudging, letting the music find itself.
A breath, a shoelace, a laugh, a footstep—
each carries weight.
Silence is welcomed; noise is celebrated.
There are no wrong directions here.
We practise a listening that reaches outward and inward:
to ourselves, to one another, to the space we shape together.
That is where the music begins.
* 🌀 Bring a voice, an object, an instrument, a movement—or nothing at all.
* ✨ **Priority given to FLINTA folks and people with migration background.**

Hybrid MI Python: Switching from Sphinx to Markdown
**Talk Description**
For most of Python's history, the predominant option for documentation has been Sphinx and reStructuredText. However, a majority of other ecosystems have adopted Markdown. There are historical reasons for reStructuredText being a better choice, however, Markdown is now up to the task.
In this talk, you'll learn why Markdown is a better option for your project's documentation. You'll be introduced to MkDocs, a static site generator built around Markdown content, and a series of associated plugins and extensions that you need to bring Sphinx-like capabilities to Markdown documentation. You'll hear a case study of migrating multiple large, existing Sphinx-based documentation bases to Markdown, including the tools used for automating the process. You'll learn how you can engage the community to assist with the effort. Finally, you'll learn why it's worth the effort to make a change of this magnitude.
**Agenda:**
7:00pm - Opening announcements
7:10pm - Switching from Sphinx to Markdown
7:50pm - Q&A

Duty vs. Results: What Makes an Action Moral?
When judging morality, should we prioritize **intentions/duty** or **outcomes/results**? It introduces two influential philosophers as representatives of these approaches.
* **Immanuel Kant (deontology):** An action is moral when it is done from **duty** and follows rational, universal principles (the **categorical imperative**). Certain acts—like lying—are wrong regardless of the consequences; you can’t do a wrong thing for a right reason.
* **John Stuart Mill (utilitarian consequentialism):** The morality of an action is determined by its **effects**, specifically how much **happiness/well-being** it produces. Mill argues that some pleasures are “higher” than others, and that good intentions don’t redeem harmful outcomes.
## Discussion Questions
1. **The lying dilemma:** A murderer comes to your door and asks if your friend is hiding inside. Kant would say you must not lie.
2. **Can good intentions rescue a bad outcome?**
3. **The organ harvest problem:** A surgeon has five patients dying of organ failure and one healthy patient in for a checkup. Killing the one to harvest organs would save five lives, and the math works out for the utilitarian. Why does this feel so deeply wrong? Is that feeling a point in Kant's favor, or just a bias we should overcome?
4. **Do rules need exceptions?** Kant insists moral rules must be universal, with no exceptions. But most of us can imagine extreme scenarios where any rule seems like it should bend. Does the need for exceptions fatally undermine deontology, or is the strength of the system precisely that it refuses to bend?
5. **Who gets to calculate the consequences?** Utilitarianism asks us to maximize good outcomes, but we're notoriously bad at predicting consequences. If we can't reliably know the results of our actions, is it practical to base our entire moral system on outcomes? Does this uncertainty push us back toward rules and principles?
6. **Everyday morality:** Think about a real moral decision you've made recently, even a small one. Did you reason more like a Kantian (what's the right thing to do in principle?) or more like a utilitarian (what will produce the best result?)? Do most people naturally lean one way?
7. **Justice vs. the greater good:** A town can prevent a deadly plague by sacrificing one innocent person. The greater good is clearly served. But is it just? Can an action be morally right and deeply unjust at the same time?
8. **The big synthesis question:** Are these two systems actually opposed, or do they often arrive at the same answers by different paths? Is it possible that we need both: rules to guide us in the moment and consequences to evaluate systems and policies over time?
Contra dance with Big Scioty May 2 - Clinton Heights Lutheran church
**Caller: Richard Ades**
**Band: The McKenzies**
**Clinton Heights Lutheran Church**
**15 Clinton Heights Ave, Columbus, OH 43202**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
