William Grant Still was one of the most talented students of French composer Edgard Varése. He composed more than 200 orchestral works but remains in obscurity to most concert goers. The idea to transcribe chamber or symphonic music for solo piano is an old one. Franz Liszt did just that when he first performed his transcriptions of Schubert songs for the Viennese public. They were a hit! Throughout his life he also transcribed all of the symphonies of Beethoven for solo piano. Not only is this a way to introduce fresh music to audiences without having a full symphony orchestra on hand. Transcribing also has the outcome of producing extremely beautiful and difficult piano music. I am so grateful to our wonderful hosts Katia and Anaïs for allowing me to share this breathtaking music with a new audience here in France.

Hi Badminton Fans! Come and join us every Sunday for a fun session of badminton. There are usually 2 sessions to choose from. **This session is open to intermediate level players and above ONLY.** What that means is that you should be comfortable with short serves to the T, doubles rotations, and smashes. There is also an open session at 11 am for players of all abilities. See the separate event just above. **Which Session To Choose** If you're unsure of your level, sign up for the 11am session to start or ask us! We try our utmost to ensure that you play with people of similar levels. **What Do You Need** Don't worry about equipment; racquets and shuttlecocks are provided, and there's no need for a badminton license or insurance. Just bring your indoor sports shoes, and a willingness to meet new friends and have lots of fun. There are changing rooms and showers. **Get There Early** Try and get there early to change and get warmed up so that we can start right on time. The courts are normally not being used before we play, so we can get a little extra time playing. **Registration & Payments** Registration is 14€ per person, and you can sign up via PayPal through this event page. For alternative payments, check for available slots on the event page first. So this month's prompt is more general. I think we can all agree that we are living in "unique" times that require coping skills. I think that one role and/or purpose of philosophy is to help us deal with our daily lives and our "unique" times. So, let's share our feelings and thoughts about which philosopher/philosophy we turn to in order to deal with our crazy events. Who/what helps you stay focused in your daily life and helps you sleep at night. I find that Stoicism with a little philosophical pessimism mixed in goes a long way in helping me deal with what I see as very destructive, fearful and mean spirited public policies at both the state and federal levels.
