Half of the group \(mixed gender\) will stay in a fixed place and the other half of the group \(mixed gender\) will be asked to rotate\. During these intervals\, each pair of people will get the opportunity to talk to each other\. \- Lara will be hosting the evening and she will organize the fast friending process\. She will indicate when you should move to the next person\. \- From 8\.30 onwards we will stop the system and people will have to chance go chat and interact with those they have met as well as others\. If you are a bit shy or anxious then please come early. Lara will help you meet other members in a small group and help you settle down and get comfortable. All attendees are also welcome to bring a lady friend along with them for free. This will make it a lot less stressful for you as you will always have your friend alongside. \- We are not a close knit tight group\. The novel of the Ghanaian writer Yaa Gyasi tells the story of Gifty, a fifth-year candidate in neuroscience at Stanford School of Medicine. Her brother, Nana, was a gifted high school athlete who died of a heroin overdose and her suicidal mother is living in her bed. Gifty is determined to discover the scientific basis for the suffering she sees all around her. But as she turns to science to unravel the mystery, her past resurfaces, particularly the evangelical church in which she was raised. The novel questions religion and science in the face of familial loss and addiction. It portrays also the struggle of a family of Ghanaian immigrants. YAA GYASI was born in Ghana and raised in Huntsville, Alabama. At the age of 26, she won several prizes for her debut novel and best seller « Homegoing ». Among these prizes: the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Award for Best First Book and the PEN/Hemingway Award for Debut Novel.

The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education.
