Practical advice for building glorious monoliths with Glenn F. Henriksen
Practical advice for building glorious monoliths with Glenn F. Henriksen
Hi everyone, We are looking forward to hosting Glenn F. Henriksen from Norway in collaboration with our friends in the .NET Usergroup Bern! **Practical advice for building glorious monoliths** Monoliths often get a bad rap. However, when designed with care and strategy, a monolithic architecture can not only be efficient but also 'glorious.' This session aims to dismantle the myths surrounding monolithic applications and provide advice for building a robust, maintainable and scalable monolith. We will look at various aspects of monolithic architecture, such as defining contexts, organizing the code, structuring your application for developer ergonomics, synchronous and asynchronous communication between contexts, minimizing boilerplate code, effective data separation, testing and implementing useful architectural patterns. Through practical examples in code and advice you will get an overview of key principles for creating a high-quality modular monolithic application that is a joy to work with. Are you a developer or an architect who want to see how you can build monoliths, learn why you absolutely should, and still enjoy your work? Then this session is for you. **Glenn F. Henriksen** Glenn F. Henriksen is a mentor and developer from Norway. As the co-founder and CTO of Justify, he gets to build new legal tools for everyone to use, helping to create better communication and less conflict in relationships. He's continuously exploring new tools, processes and technologies, and improving how he and his fellow developers work with code, tasks and projects. He has been a Microsoft Development MVP, a part of the Microsoft Regional Director program and is an ASP.NET Insider and an Azure Advisor. In the past 25+ years he has co-owned two companies, worked as a consultant, manager, support tech, network admin, developer, architect, technical lead and more, but his favourite things are still swapping code for food and building stuff that makes a difference in people’s lives.
Fun Pub Quiz @ Lady Hamiltons (free entry!)
Fun Pub Quiz @ Lady Hamiltons (free entry!)
Zurich's funniest, coolest pub quiz is back ! Zurich Together.... We know you can drink. We know you can party. But how smart are you ? This is a unique Pub Quiz for people who don't like Pub Quizzes ! The questions are \*fun\*, and I really try to make sure all teams have the same chance of winning. Have a look at the Meetup images to see some of the previous questions I've set. These are not your boring typical "How many bones are there in the human body?" questions ! Lady Hamiltons has air conditioning, unlimited Chicken Wings for 20 CHF and a Happy Hour on drinks (4.50 CHF for a 5 dl beer !!) until 7.15pm. We usual get loads of newcomers, lots of cool people, and when you arrive, I make sure everyone gets added to a team, so it's really easy way to meet others in our group. Most of our members come along alone, and I'll make sure you are added to one of the quiz teams. It's fun, free to join, you'll meet cool people, and you'll get to debate about whether Moscow really is a city in Europe, and try to remember Nicholas Cage movie names from the 1980s. What's not to like ? The quiz starts at 7.30pm, but I recommend getting there around 7pm, so you can meet the others, find a team, and make the most out of the Happy Hour prices! There are voucher prizes for the three best teams, which can be spent at Lady Hamiltons. 1st prize: 150 CHF voucher 2nd prize: 100 CHF voucher 3rd prize: 50 CHF voucher Maximum participants per team: 6. My last few Pub Quizzes have been full... if you are planning on coming with some friends, please reserve a table in advance.

Conversational AI Design: A Practical Field Guide
Conversational AI Design: A Practical Field Guide
**About the talk** Conversational assistants aren’t “just another feature”. They are full experiences shaped by countless design decisions that must hold up in real life: messy inputs, high expectations, edge cases, and the constant tension between speed, quality, and cost. In this talk, Gea and Alberto share what they’ve learned while designing AI-enabled assistants in different contexts (from support to retail-like journeys). Instead of focusing on hype or theory, they’ll unpack the practical choices that make the difference: how to keep conversations actionable, how to design a consistent “voice” without overdoing personality, how to define (or intentionally limit) the assistant’s identity, and how the interface and the underlying logic need to evolve together. They’ll also touch the less glamorous, but most decisive parts of the work: when AI is the right tool (and when it isn’t), why data is the elephant in the room, what “testing” means in conversational design, and how to guide users so the assistant is easy to understand and hard to misuse without overwhelming them. Expect a set of clear takeaways you can reuse with your own team, whether you’re starting from scratch or improving something already in production, shared through real design trade-offs, not spoilers. **About the speakers** [Gea Sasso](https://www.linkedin.com/in/gea-sasso/) is a Senior Service Designer at Sketchin focused on service experiences where journeys, touchpoints, and contexts come together. Her work explores how services can be shaped across channels, including the interplay between digital and physical environments. [Alberto Andreetto](https://www.linkedin.com/in/albertoandreetto/) is a Lead Interaction Designer at Sketchin specialized in interaction design and complex digital systems. He works on defining how products behave, respond, and communicate, especially when interfaces become conversational and adaptive. [Sketchin](https://www.sketchin.com/) is an advanced strategic-design studio that helps forward‑thinking organizations explore technology and face their next sustainable change. They combine business opportunities with customer expectations to design and deliver end‑to‑end experiences, often leveraging deep tech and AI to reshape products, services, and customer engagement. \-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\-\- ** The Talk is in English** ** \*Note\* The event is happening in a new room \*note\* The event will be held at ETH Zürich Maschinenbau ML, Room F34** *We kindly ask you to arrive 10 minutes early of the event start, so everyone can find a seat due to high attendance.
