❄️🌲 Winter Walk at the Brick Works 🌲❄️
❄️🌲 Winter Walk at the Brick Works 🌲❄️
❄️🌲 **Winter Walk at the Brick Works** 🌲❄️ **Fresh air, good company, and a perfect excuse to get out of the house!** Winter doesn’t mean staying indoors — it means layering up, grabbing a warm drink, and heading out for one of Toronto’s most beautiful seasonal walks. Join us for a winter adventure to the Evergreen Brick Works, where nature, history, and community come together. ✨ We’ll start with a scenic walk from **St. Clair Subway Station** down through the ravine to the Brick Works — a peaceful, snow-dusted escape that feels a world away from the city, even though we’re right in it. ❄️🌿 Once we arrive, you’ll have time to enjoy the **Brick Works Market** — grab something warm to eat, browse fresh produce, or treat yourself to a little local shopping. Afterward, we’ll find a cozy spot to sit, chat, eat lunch, and actually get to know each other. ☕🥪🤍 Then we’ll walk back together toward St. Clair — but if you’re feeling tired, cold, or just ready to head home, **buses are available** from the Brick Works to connect you to nearby subway stations. Easy and flexible! *** 📱 **Don’t forget to join our WhatsApp group** – [CLICK HERE!](https://chat.whatsapp.com/H59mSCbsAi018gYANrKAnc?mode=ac_t) *** ### ❄️ Meetup Details ❄️ ⚠️ **Please Note:** This is a true winter walk. Don’t sign up if you’re not comfortable walking in cold or snowy conditions. ✔️ The walk happens in *almost* all weather ❌ The event will be cancelled only if it’s **-20°C or colder** 📍 **Meetup Location:** Outside **St. Clair Subway Station** — look for Mathew in his iconic **Moose Hat** 🫎 ⏰ **Meetup Time:** **11:00 AM** — I will only wait **5 minutes** (this is a firm 5 minutes because… winter ❄️😉) 💲 **Meetup Fee:** $5 cash 💵 in person or e-transfer 📲 to **mathewmaclean@hotmail.com** 🏁 **End Spot:** Yonge & St. Clair *** ### 🧣 What to Bring 🧣 • Water • Good winter boots • Gloves & hat • Something warm to drink ☕ • A small snack • Guests are welcome *** ### 🌲 More About the Brick Works 🌲 Toronto has some incredible hidden hiking trails, and this one is truly special. From **1889 to the 1980s**, the Don Valley Brick Works was one of Canada’s most important brickyards. In the 1990s, the City of Toronto and the TRCA raised nearly **$6 million** to restore the site, transforming it into a stunning park and natural space that opened in 1996. Today, it’s an awe-inspiring urban oasis — especially in winter. Snow-covered paths, quiet ravines, wildlife sightings, and historic industrial ruins create a magical atmosphere you never quite know what you’ll encounter. ❄️🦊🌲 *** 🚶‍♂️ **Can I Leave Early?** Absolutely — leave anytime you like. The full experience takes about **3 hours**, including a relaxed break at the Brick Works. *** 💛 **REMEMBER:** You can just show up — or decide on the day if you’re not 100% sure. ⚠️ **NOTE:** Sometimes things happen and plans may change — please keep an eye out for updates. *** 👤 **Organizer:** Mathew Questions? Avengers’ Saturday Cafe for the Homeless
Note: You may be removed from the attendance list if you've participated in the previous week's event. This allows for more people to experience this Meetup. Avengers put your costumes on and let’s go and save the world!
Well we can’t save the world (yet), but we aim to try to play a small part in the lives of those experiencing homelessness by making their day a bit better!
Description: Before the event the organizer will post a list in the comment section of the attendees and what they are responsible to bring (food/drink, kitchen supplies, cleaning supplies). We normally ask each attending member to bring approximately $15-20 worth of ingredients/supplies to our event. We will use the items to prepare and serve food/drink at The Meeting Place.
Timeline: We will meet on location at 11:00 am, with lunch served between 12:30-1:00 pm.
Membership Dues: Membership dues are $2.00 for the calendar year. Membership dues go towards paying for food/supplies incurred by no-shows. Membership dues are due at the first meetup of the year that you attend.
No Shows/Late Un-RSVP: We’re relying on members who RSVP to bring key ingredients for recipes! Please try your best to show-up or alternatively change your RSVP early so another member may fill the empty spot.
\*\*\* If you are on the waitlist, keep checking as you may be moved into attendance to replace someone. We will try to message you to confirm your attendance in advance.
Donations will be assigned before the event.

It's better when we're together. Come and experience the power of the WHM with a wonderful group of people. We breathe, we go into the cold and we teach our bodies to heat up properly. We develop resilience and the mindset to use these powerful healing tools over and over again, all year round. This gathering is fully guided by Wim Hof instructor Steve Beattie. If you are new to this, come on down, enjoy the support and practice in a safe way with us. If you already have a WHM practice this meetup is a great way to take it to the next level, and make lots of new friends. There will be a fire, snacks and drinks shared by other attendees. We have been doing this 6 for years! **What to bring?** * Yoga mat * Weather-appropriate clothing (better to dress too warm!) * Bathing suite, towel * Water shoes (optional) In extreme weather being prepared is very important. Especially if it's your first time, please read up on how to come prepared [here.](https://www.breathinginnature.com/wim-hof-method-meetup/) Learn more about our Wim Hof meetups, workshops, breath classes, wilderness trips, medicine work and special events at **[Breathing in Nature](https://breathinginnature.com/)**. Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Let’s do some coding together at a cafe! No more working alone in the weekend. Here, we write code together. And I mean together together. Not occupying-the-same-space-but-separate together. Here’s how it works: Jennifer brings her mobile app project, tells everyone that it is like Pinterest for recipes and she’d like to work on the nav bar. Paul and Chloe think Jennifer's project is fascinating, and they join the group. They gather around Jennifer’s laptop and work on the nav bar for 2 hours. Jennifer is the one typing out the code while Paul and Chloe research, brainstorm, and offer suggestions. If you’re feeling stuck on your own project or need a motivation boost, bring it to mob programming! Want to learn by watching how others code and solve problems? Join someone else’s project at this event! Oh and we love your half-done projects that you are a bit embarrassed to share. Absolutely bring those to the event! **Discord**: We use Discord to share screen & code snippets during the event. Also feel free to share your projects here before the event! https://discord.gg/Da9fZFxPfs **Event policy**: * We have 0 tolerance for harassment. * We don’t allow the projects that are not meant to be shared in public such as school assignments, interview tasks, or trade secrets. * The goal is to write code. We discourage you from pitching business ideas here, doing code reviews, or spending the whole event on planning what to do. * Please buy a drink, and tip the barista well.

TFS Presents a Billy Wilder Rom-Com Double Feature!
TFS Presents a Billy Wilder Rom-Com Double Feature!
On Sunday, January 25, at the Paradise Theatre in Toronto, the Toronto Film Society is showing a double feature of two Billy Wilder romantic comedies - two films for one low price! First up is *Sabrina* (1954): Audrey Hepburn lights up the screen in this sparkling Cinderella story with a dash of Parisian flair. When the chauffeur’s daughter returns home transformed from shy girl to elegant sophisticate, she turns the heads - and hearts - of both Larrabee brothers (played by Humphrey Bogart and William Holden). Billy Wilder’s writing and direction brings wit, romance, and razor-sharp dialogue to this timeless classic. Sabrina is pure Hollywood magic, wrapped in Givenchy and glowing with charm. Next up is *Midnight* (1939): Don’t let the title fool you - Midnight is a champagne-soaked screwball delight from start to finish, also co-written by Billy Wilder! Claudette Colbert shines as a down-on-her-luck showgirl who stumbles into high society thanks to a borrowed gown and a well-timed lie. Add a lovestruck taxi driver, a meddling aristocrat (John Barrymore), and a whirl of mistaken identities, and you’ve got a comedy that’s as sharp as it is stylish. A hidden gem from the golden age of Hollywood, this one deserves the spotlight. Please note that this is a paid event. You can purchase tickets online or at the door. What is Right? Meet at a Bar
What is Right? Meet at a Bar
All meetups of the "What is Right?" group are intended, as the name implies, to be exploratory sessions in which participants might freely exchange views, contest and debate positions and, it is hoped, might demonstrate for one another what a principled conservative position ought to be. Among the various traits that a conservative thinker should have is a desire to preserve what our civilization got right, and to make innovations only with an abundance of caution and humility. In order to get to the Bishop and the Belcher Pub, note that despite its Bloor Street address, it is actually located one block south of Bloor at the intersection of Church St. and Hayden St.

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Feb. 7 - First Congregational Church
Contra dance with Big Scioty on Feb. 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Dan Kappus** **Band: Trillium** **Big Scioty Contra Dance** **temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
