5 tables Mon TT @ Bishan Sports Hall
Capacity of event is number of tables X 4. Having a waitlist does not mean event is full. It is for me to prioritize people as per the following clause:
*Priority is given to regulars, past attendees, intermediate and above level players, players who have their private message function switched on and people whom I have met before. If I am unable to contact you, I cannot ask for your availability and skill level etc and you will be stuck in the waitlist forever and ever.*
This is to ensure that the skill level of players are decent and to eliminate no shows.
âą Find us at the following tables in bishan sports hall..
1,2,3,4,5
Ensure you are feeling well before taking part. Do not attend if you are not feeling well.
* NO GATECRASHING!
âą Do bring your own bat. Balls would be provided.
* By participating in this event, you agree that the organizer shall not be held liable to any injuries or damages sustained by you as a result of taking part of this event.
âą If for some reason you aren't able to make it on that day, please update your status to "Not Going" at least one day in advance. The earlier you update your status, the easier it is for me to find a replacement.
\*\*\*\*\*NOTE: FOR THOSE WHO HAD RSVP BUT
1. DID NOT TURNED UP ON THE DAY OR
2. DID NOT INFORMED THAT THEY AREN'T ABLE TO MAKE IT OR
3. DID NOT WITHDRAW RSVP WHEN THEY CANNOT MAKE IT,
ON THE FUTURE MEETUP WHICH YOU RSVP, YOU WOULD BE BLACKLISTED.
4. REPEATED OFFENDERS (MORE THAN 2 TIMES) WILL MEAN AUTO DROP DOWN TO "NOT GOING" LIST IF I SEE YOUR NAME ON RSVP LIST ON THE NEXT MEETUP.

### Topic/speaker of the month: Topic of the month: Embracing Your Protagonism
As the year draws to a close, communities around the world turn to story, symbolism, and shared traditions to make sense of the year gone by. For freethinkers and the non-religious, the Winter Solstice and secular Christmas season offer a meaningful moment to gather, reflect, and reconnect. At this December Secular Assembly, we explore how narrativesâancient, modern, festive, or personalâshape the way we see ourselves and our place in a complex world. In a warm and welcoming community setting, we celebrate the light returning after the longest night, and the human capacity to create meaning through reason, compassion, and imagination.
In Embracing Your Protagonism, Melvin Lim, President of the Society, invites us to consider: if life were a game, what kind of lead character would you be? Drawing on storytelling traditions, year-end mythologies, and even lessons from narrative games, Melvin will guide us through practical ways to understand our strengths, âbuffs,â and âdebuffs,â and how to take intentional steps toward becoming the protagonist in our own stories. Join us for an uplifting morning of reflection, music, and humanistic community as we close the year together and look ahead with renewed agency and purpose.
#### Assembly brief
During the Secular Assembly, there will be: short sing alongs, a short talk, sharing of personal stories, moments for reflection and gratitude, and more. Light refreshments (packet drinks) will be provided. Assembly will start on time, please arrive 10-15mins early.
**\*\*Collaboration with Harmony in Diversity Gallery (HDG)\*\***
The Harmony in Diversity Gallery (HDG) was developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with community partners and organisations like the Inter-Religious Organisation (IRO). The Gallery aims to promote an appreciation of Singaporeâs rich religious diversity. It hopes this will foster a spirit of give and take, mutual respect and understanding, necessary to nurture and strengthen the religious peace and harmony we enjoy today.

Practical Philosophy Meetup - Singapore đžđŹ
đïž **WHAT'S PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY ABOUT?**
Practical Philosophy is a weekly meet-up that brings critical thinkers together for an opportunity to dive deep on a topic, practice communicating, and building a community. All with no âofficialâ philosophy knowledge required! đ
Practical Philosophy is based on the idea that philosophy should be accessible to all, and not something reserved only for academics. Each week we choose a topic, and the goal is to use the conversation to develop our critical thinking and communication as we explore that topic.
The goal is to help develop our Critical Thinking, Communication, and Community đ
đ **HOW DOES IT WORK?**
Each week, we pick one topic and discuss it. The topic for the week is shared, generally in the [Whatsapp group](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hg7zL8ClpzM3agJCvw5HDS), along with jump-off points to get the conversation going.
When groups get bigger than 7-8 people, itâs important that we break into smaller groups. This way we are able to maintain a conversational flow as opposed to having our meetups feel like a discourse or lecture.
**General Meeting Agenda**
Each Practical Philosophy meet-up follows this general timeline:
* 19:00-19:15 - People arrive and chat, get to know each other before the âofficial' start.
* 19:15-19:25 - Meeting introduction, explanation of Practical Philosophy and the topic for the week, read the guidelines and the overview so attendees know what to expect in terms of timelines.
* 19:25-20:45 - Break into small groups - introduce yourselves and general thoughts on the topic, open discussion afterwards. At this point the group can review the âjump-offâ questions as needed, but they are just there to help guide the conversation. Itâs not obligatory to answer them.
* 20:45-21:00 - Bring everyone back together to discuss conclusions of the topic - each group gives a short 1-minute summary. Organizer concludes the meeting and everyone takes a group photo.
* 21:00 - The official meeting is over but itâs a great opportunity to get to know people in a non-structured environment, so we often stick around, chat, and get to know each other.
**đ§§PRICING?**
Practical Philosophy Club is FREE to attend! We just ask that if we are meeting in a café, buy a beverage! Some chapters rent a space for us to meet, and they may ask for donations to help contribute to the cost of rent. Donations will always be 100% voluntary though!
đ WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY
đŁ âI feel like Philosophy Club helps someone build their own belief system through a series of perspectives while not promoting whatâs right and wrongâ - Ekam
đŁ âI got hooked from day 1 (the topic was authority) and felt it was the right place for me. I feel it is a place where people can go to learn and discuss new perspectives and increase critical thinking and community by interacting with people who might challenge your point of views but at the same time encourage you to have openness and mind flexibility.â - Daniel
**đ€ FAQ**
* âWhat will we talk about? What's the topic?
âThe topic for the week is shared every Sunday in the Whatsapp group. We try to add the topic to the comment section on this event page as well but if you donât see it, the topic and the jump-off points will be in our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hg7zL8ClpzM3agJCvw5HDS).
* Do I need to study or read anything to attend?
No preparation is necessary. This isnât a study of other thinkers. We want to know what YOU think about the topic, not what an old philosopher thought. If you have a perspective from a religion or a school of thought to share, throw it on the table and weâll discuss it, but it's not required.
* Is there a specific philosophy that Practical Philosophy is focused on?
The goal of our meet-ups is to not have dogmatic discussions, and flex our critical thinking muscles. Because of this, we want to hear from every realm of thought, and don't study a particular school.
* Is it mostly men that attend?
Surprisingly, no! Although philosophy is seen as a Candelabra affair in a dark room with a bunch of guys, our Practical Philosophy meetups are generally 50/50 between genders, and we donât meet in any dark rooms.
* Can I come alone?
Of course you can, we encourage it :)
* Can I be late?
Please don't be! We do have a 15 minute grace period where we allow people to funnel in while we hang out, but after that if you arrive too late, it disrupts the flow of the conversation.
* Where do you meet?
The location is posted in Meetup and our [Whatsapp](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Hg7zL8ClpzM3agJCvw5HDS) group for this location. It is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED that you join the Whatsapp group! If you want to know what other cities have a Practical Philosophy Club, you can see our chapters on our [website](https://www.practicalphilosophy.club/practical-philosophy-locations/).
**PRACTICAL PHILOSOPHY - Making Philosophy Available To All.** âš
Practical Philosophy hosts weekly, in-person meetups in over 20 countries, including Canada, Spain, Japan, Mexico and many more! đșïž

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Jan 3 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Gaye Fifer**
**Band: Hot Coffee Breakdown**
**Big Scioty Contra Dance**
**temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like youâve seen in period films such as âPride and Prejudiceâ, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. Thatâs English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like âswing your partnerâ and âdo-si-do,â like youâve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alĂĄ âRiverdance.â Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THATâs Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/)
Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for January is "Chemistry"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 7:00 pm, show starts at 7:30 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

Making care packages for unhoused folks
We're collaborating with Westerville Queer Collective to gather supplies and pack care packages. Head over to their event page to [register](https://www.meetup.com/meetup-group-wroejsfn/events/312453970/) officially.
Weâll be assembling care packages with food, warm weather supplies, recreational items like books, and resource guides for local unhoused folks. Packages will then be delivered to HEER2SERVE, local nonprofit that has weekly âservesâ, when they go out into local encampment areas and deliver needed items and food. Our care packages will be a part of that.
WQC will supply containers and food items for the care packages. So this time we are primarily focusing on gathering donations for keeping warm, including up to 50 of the following items:
Clean or new socks, hats, scarves and gloves
Handwarmers
Sanitizing wipes
Lighters
You are welcome to contribute items or just come and help pack. Leave a comment if you are bringing donations. We can also accept money donations through WQC.
