Cosy Cave Conversations // 10ème // Café philo in English
**Step into the laid-back charm of Cosy Cave Conversations**, a Parisian philosophy chat that's more relaxed than a cat in a sunbeam 🐈 🌞 Gather with a bunch of easygoing souls, share thoughts on the good life and its mysteries, enjoy a beverage, and have a good laugh.
A few things to be aware of:
* **Please** **don't show up without a spot** (we aim to keep it cosy and we always have a waiting list these days — check if you’re on the list or the waiting list)
* If it's your first event, it's essential you **turn up early, or at the latest on time (<7pm)** so you understand how it works, what the topic is and don't interrupt the session
* The **session runs from 7pm to 8:30pm** where we focus on the discussion, but don't worry, you'll have a chance to socialise, introduce yourselves and continue the chat after the session.
**If you’re running late** (the curtains are closed), that’s okay, but please wait to join us in the break rather than interrupting the session.
* Please read the **tips below** for a good session before coming along
**How does it work?** We embrace the café-philo method — proposing intriguing topics on the night (up to 3), choosing one together, and diving into everything from consciousness, community, death and god, while managing to keep it light and easy 🦦
**Forget the stiff atmosphere**, we're all about small groups (\~10 people) and unpretentious chats with no homework required. No need for a philosophy degree, just bring your open mind and a dash of curiosity.
**Join us every Wednesday 19h-20h30 at Les Acolytes** — because pondering the profound is better with good company (and a pint). See you there! 🎉
A few tips for a great session:
* come with an **open and curious mind** 🧠
* **prioritise listening to others and asking questions** without interrupting or long monologues 👂
* we put a strong **emphasise on giving everyone a chance to contribute to the discussion**, so try and be aware of how much space and time you take up when speaking 🐻❄️
* we prioritise **intellectual accessibility**: this is not an academic group therefore we ask to keep any philosophy jargon to a minimum and instead explain any concepts in plain english 🤠
* we are an **apolitical group** that focuses on discussing and exploring philosophical ideas without endorsing or aligning with any specific political or religous ideologies. Our aim is to encourage open, unbiased dialogue centered on philosophical inquiry within a safe and respectful environment 🐥

Poetry Reading: Gentle Words & Deep Ideas 📖🫖🍪✨
**Welcome to the Paris Poetry Circle!**
Now in its 30th year, our English-language poetry reading group continues to bring together lovers of verse and thought in the heart of Paris. 🎉
Join us this Wednesday evening for a gathering of minds and voices as we read and reflect on poems that move, challenge, and illuminate — all shared over a quiet cup of tea and biscuits. 🫖☕️🍪
We seek poems that are clear yet profound, sweet or serious — those that carry us forward and help us make sense of the world. We steer clear of the obscure or needlessly complex; we value clarity over cleverness, sincerity over show.
Each poem is read anonymously to begin with, without revealing the author, allowing space for open, unbiased interpretation. We then explore it together — carefully, curiously — to uncover what lies beneath the surface.
After the meeting, we write a letter of thanks to the living poets we have read at the group, to thank and congratulate them. We revere all the poets of this world.
The group is small — usually six or seven thoughtful individuals, up to a maximum of ten. The conversation is warm, intelligent, and grounded. There is no performance, no pressure to contribute, and no cost. Only a shared pursuit of insight, beauty, and fellowship.
If that resonates with you, we’d love to welcome you. Bring a poem, or simply bring yourself. 📚✨

Moonrise Picnic Wed Mar 4th, 7:30-9 PM, Pont des Arts
**Ahoy there,**
The next moonrise picnic will be Wed March 4, from 7:30 pm - 9 pm. (Moonrise around 8:25 pm.)
This is one day after the official full moon to allow me to join you immediately upon my return to Paris, totally jet-lagged though I may be. Yes as host I am in charge of the calendar. 🤣
Clear ski (oops, too much time on the slopes in Colorado) permitting we may get a spectacular view of moon through the pagoda cupola on the roof of Theatre de Sarah Bernhardt at Place de Chatelet. According to my notes, this happens every March.
The March full moon was known to Native Americans as the Full Worm Moon due to the fact that the thawing ground gives way to earthworms who say hello to the earliest robins. Other names include Full Crow Moon because of crows signaling the end of winter, Full Crust Moon because of crusty snow from thawing by day and freezing by night, the Lenten Moon between Mardi Gras and Easter, the Full Sap Moon because of tapping maple trees.
**WHAT**: Everyone brings food and drink to share.
**WHERE**: Pont des Arts. We'll gather around the bench just past the middle of the bridge (3rd bridge from the Left Bank side). Nearest metros: Pont Neuf and Louvre-Rivoli.
**WHEN**: Wed March 4, from 7:30 pm - 9 pm
**WHY**: Share one of the most memorable sights in Paris with some of the nicest people around.
**WHO**: You and your friends.
**HOW** to find us: Keep your eyes out for a bunch of nice people speaking English and French, laughing, drinking and munching around a bench, near the middle of the bridge. Look for a small white telescope if it’s not raining.
**THEME**: Crepes
**BIRTHDAYS**: Are you Pisces? If so, let me know so we can celebrate your birthday this month and blow out the world’s largest birthday candle.
**PUZZLER**:
The Puzzler is back due to popular demand. Yay! Credit and thank you for this one goes to Gerda. So keep your suggestions coming.
Like the majority of galaxies the Milky Way is a spiral galaxy. How flat is it (in relation to its diameter)? As flat as an Olympics curling stone? A hockey puck? A Formula 1 car tire? A deep dish pizza? Or what?
Here’s an image (photoshopped composite to help you out).
https://www.reddit.com/r/space/comments/11iwq16/milkyway_above_the_monument_valley_usa_credits/
**PUZZLER ANSWER:**
The Milky Way is 100,000 light years in diameter. But it’s only 1000 light years thick. Only! That means it’s 100 times wider than it is thick. Relative to its diameter the Milky Way is thinner than a pancake. More like a crepe. (Did you miss the Easter Egg hint in the Theme?) A crepe is the only thing Neil deGrasse Tyson could compare it to. What about a DVD Neil? Or a paper plate? Or sandpaper disc? Neil is a foodie!

Bad Girls Book Club March 2026
**Our March pick is *God of the Woods* by Liz Moore.**
**This month’s novel is an award-winning literary mystery that blends family drama with psychological suspense. It explores women’s voices and relationships while delivering an exciting, eerie, and deeply suspenseful story. The book is 576 pages in print or 14 hours and 35 minutes on audiobook.**
Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.
As a panicked search begins, a thrilling drama unfolds. Chasing down the layered secrets of the Van Laar family and the blue-collar community working in its shadow, Moore’s multi-threaded story invites readers into a rich and gripping dynasty of secrets and second chances. It is Liz Moore’s most ambitious and wide-reaching novel yet.
Contra dance with Big Scioty on March 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Frank Buschelmann**
**Band: The Rosenthorns**
**Big Scioty Contra Dance**
**temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215**
WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing!
Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner.
Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot.
For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/)
Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
