Offener Leseabend
## Wo & Wann?
**BEGINN**: 20:00 Uhr
**ANMELDUNG zum Lesen: ab 19:30 Uhr**
beim Moderator des Abends – siehe [Termine](http://autorenforum-berlin.de/wordpress/termine/);
Die Teilnahme an der Veranstaltung ist kostenlos.
**SCHWARTZSCHE VILLA**
**Großer Salon**
Direkt am S/U Rathaus Steglitz
Grunewaldstr. 55
*Unfortunately at the moment, it's only possible to present German texts. Unpublished texts that are already translated into German are highly welcome!*
## Was erwartet Sie?
Also – nicht gleich verschwinden! Dranbleiben.
**Was habe ich gehört?** (Zusammenfassung (Nacherzählung))
**Was blieb unverstanden** (akustisch oder logisch)
## **Unter der Lupe**
**Was ist das für ein Text?**
(Prosa: Genre? Lyrik: Welche Art lyrischer Text?)
**Thema**
**Sprache**
(Welche Bilder sind stimmig / welche nicht?
Was lässt sich zum Rhythmus sagen?
Sind die Sätze syntaktisch und grammatikalisch korrekt?)
**Dramaturgie**
(Schafft der Text es, Spannung zu erzeugen? In welcher Reihenfolge werden die Dinge erzählt?)
**Bedeutung**

**Queer Bridges: Forging connections and providing resources for LGBTQIA+ people with experiences of migration and/or displacement.**
Queer people with experiences of migration and/or displacement in Berlin often face unique challenges in their daily lives that can limit their access to supportive communities and inclusive environments.
With the support of the **Deutsche Fernsehlotterie Stiftung**, we have developed the Queer Bridges program to overcome these barriers. We provide resources, networking and support in a welcoming environment for queer immigrants and refugees through our special program. Our goal is to foster a sense of belonging to the local LGBTQIA+ community, enabling smooth integration and an improved quality of life for queer folks with experiences of migration and/or displacement.

Short Film Production Workshop: Learn by Making a Short Film (4 Days)
\*\*\*
**Note:** RSVPs made here do not guarantee a spot at the course. In order to register you must go to: [https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/product/first_step_filmmaking_4day/](https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/product/first_step_filmmaking_4day/)
Also, by registering for this workshop you get a 1 year membership into the Berlin Film Community's Verein (Officially recognized Non-Profit Association) which costs €30 and gets you an instant 10% off of not only this workshop, but also all paid workshops and seminars we offer. Plus, being a member gets you many other benefits, such as free seminars, access to filmmaking equipment for free, rental discounts at 25p and more!
***
There is no better way to learn the basics of filmmaking than by actually doing it. In this **very hands-on 4 day workshop** I will teach you the basics of filmmaking in the most effective and fun way possible, by actually getting your hands dirty making a short film. You will learn the fundamentals of filmmaking by going through the entire process, performing various roles on set such as director, camera operator, lighting technician and sound recorder.
This workshop will have a very **limited class size of 12 people**. This ensures that everyone gets the personal attention that learning so much information requires, as well as to allow for a decent amount of time so that you can try each of the different roles. I have tailored this course to make it flexible enough to accommodate people with absolutely zero experience as well as for people who have done a bit of filming. This 4 day workshop is different from my 2 day workshop, the ***[First Step Filmmaking Workshop: Make Your Own Film](https://berlinfilmcommunity.com/product/first_step_filmmaking_2day/)***, in that it goes into additional aspects of filmmaking, such as camerawork, lighting and sound which couldn't be included due to time constraints. We will also work as a group to make one short film together instead of everyone shooting their own film.
There will be three days of instruction and practical exercises and one shooting day. To be able to effectively get through the monumental task of shooting a short film in 1 day, we will be working from a prepared script that is very short and simple to shoot. This will allow everyone to work with the actors, shoot with the cinema camera, modify the lighting, and get a grounding in the way a set works. All the equipment and actors necessary for the short will be provided.
After we finish the shoot, you will get all the video and audio files so that you can review and edit the footage on your own. Please bring a hard drive with at least 50gb of free space on the last day of the course. While editing is an extremely important part of filmmaking, this course is designed to give you a grounding on the pre-production and shooting of a short film and 4 days just scratches that surface.
This course will be super informative, but also fun. I will throw a lot of information at you, but it will be mixed in with some groan worthy dad jokes along the way so you have that to look forward to.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to me at ***[alex@berlinfilmcommunity.com](mailto:alex@berlinfilmcommunity.com)***.
**Verein Membership and Discount**
The workshop costs 550€, or if you are a student or over 65 with ID, you pay 525€.
However, if you are not already a member, by registering for this workshop you will get automatically enrolled in a **1 year of membership** into the B**erlin Film Community's Verein** (Officially recognized Non-Profit Association) which costs €30 and gets you an **instant 10% off of not only this workshop**, but also all paid workshops and seminars we offer. Plus, being a member gets you many other benefits, such as free seminars, access to filmmaking equipment for free, rental discounts at 25p and more!
So for this workshop, if you are not a member, it will be €550 + €30(membership) - €55(10% member discount) = €525 for a Regular Ticket.
If you are already a member, you will get the discount of 10% without having to pay the membership cost, €550 - €55(10% member discount) = €495.

**About the Workshop Leader:**
Hi, I’m Alex DePew and I have been working in the film industry for over 19 years and have led several filmmaking workshops, many of which have been here in Berlin. I absolutely love teaching newbies the ropes and I get tons of joy when I see someone light up as they make a connection between what I am teaching and something they have seen in a movie. When a student then applies that knowledge to their own film, it is a thing of beauty.
Filmmakers & Movie Nerds Meetup #
Curious what we do? Check our [Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/filmmakersandmovienerds/) ♥️
Would you like to meet some like-minded filmmakers? Start a project? Or do you need help with a movie you are currently working on? Are you new in the city and you'd like to meet people tinkering with movies?
**Then you should join us!**
We meet every Sunday. It’s important to us that we get to know each other in person. To create a community of connected people, work, learn and grow together. For film making you need a crew of reliable people with a positive can-do-attitude. This is the place to find them.
Together, we will talk about these topics:
* What you are currently working on
* What you need help with
* What would you like to help with
* What you you would like to learn
This is event is great for:
* filmmakers
* movie nerds
* writers
* camera operators
* editors
* actors
* sound recorders
* composers
* gaffers
* producers
We are limiting the amount of people, so we can have a structured introduction and discussion. After that we get together loosely with some drinks and chats. And then we mostly go for dinner with a couple of us.
**Important information**:
*To sustain and grow this amazing community, we started a member contribution that is due every month. The money we collect is used solely for the purpose of the community. Of course you can come once or twice without contributing to check us out!*
The Minority Report
The Minority Report is a weekly stand-up comedy show about identity, culture, and the expat experience.
Are you a minority in Europe? Did something weird, awkward, or low-key offensive happen to you this week?
This is the space to vent your feelings about it.
Every week, comedians Bryan Lee and Moe Singleton take the stage to unpack life as outsiders, offering their unique commentary on topics like race, masculinity, relationships, and life between cultures.
Add weekly special guest comedians and “question time” with the audience, and you’ve got Berlin’s most unhinged comedy experience.
🎟️ Want to warm up before the show?
Check out our comedy workshop – a beginner-friendly stand-up class with Bryan and Moe, hosted just before the show.
Portrait Drawing on Sunday Afternoon
This group is for everyone who is interested in drawing portraits!
For me, drawing has been a wonderful way to gain a new perspective on the world and the people within it.
Whether you are just starting out or have been drawing for ages — all levels are welcome :)
How it works:
1\. We meet at The Castle pub in Mitte and do short sittings of 15 minutes for each other\. The first sitting is divided into 3 warm\-up sketches\, 5 minutes each\.
2\. Before we start\, everybody writes their name on a blank card \(provided by the organizer\); these cards are then used to randomly pick the model every 15 minutes\.
3\. Usually we do 8 sittings\, with a 15\-minute break in the middle \(so after 4 sittings\, or 1 hour\)\.
-> The participation is free, but it is expected that everybody orders something from the bar to support the lovely location.
Get out your pencils and let's start!
Please bring your own art supplies!
cinesonic - Indie Folk Movie Night, with Lisa Akuah in Concert 🎸🎵
Every musician has highs and lows: the struggle to break through, to give one’s all to the craft, to find the time to maintain a personal life, and to evolve one’s sound as an artist are just a few of the challenges that often force musicians to pack up their instruments for good.
At the next cinesonic, folk music takes center stage with a screening of a film which follows a struggling folk singer trying to make it big in 1960s New York City, refusing to give up while facing hardship after hardship.
After the film, we invite guests to remain at the bar for a concert by Lisa Akuah, a Berlin-based singer-songwriter whose atmospheric indie folk drifts between melancholy and delicate hope. With her warm, captivating voice and poetic lyrics, she creates soundscapes that invite stillness and reflection.
💙 Doors open at 3pm
💙 Film screening at 3:30pm
💙 Indie Folk performance by Lisa Akuah at 5:30pm
💙 The bar will remain open after the performance for low key drinks
Entry is donation-based, and we're grateful for whatever you can contribute. RSVP via our event on luma: https://luma.com/kekuqapm
We hope to see you there!

Disc Tues / Choose Your Movie: TOW vs THEY WILL KILL YOU at the Gateway!
Join us as we get together for a Discount Tuesday / Choose Your Movie event to see your choice of the top-reviewed indie drama TOW or the action-comedy-horror THEY WILL KILL YOU! A winner either way! Here are details, trailer and plan for this event:
TOW: This drama follows a homeless Seattle woman who fights her way out of tow-company hell to reclaim her life and the car that held it all together after receiving a tow bill for $21,634. The film is directed by Stephanie Laing and stars Rose Byrne, Dominic Sessa, Demi Lovato, Ariana DeBose, Octavia Spencer, Simon Rex, Elsie Fisher and Corbin Bernsen. Tow premiered to rave reviews at the 2025 Tribeca Film Festival where critics declared, “Tow is a winner” and called the film “a story of perseverance, heart, and real fight, the kind of small human story we see less frequently these days, but need now more than ever!” TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiUtqgeDVI8
THEY WILL KILL YOU: A woman takes a job as a housekeeper in a NYC high-rise, unaware of the building's history of disappearances. She soon realizes the community is shrouded in mystery. The film is directed by Kirill Sokolov and Zadie Beetz, Myha'la, Paterson Joseph, Tom Felton, Heather Graham, and Patricia Arquette. The film is being released immediately following its premiere at this year’s SXSW Festival earlier this month. TRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYqQPiXpi4w
PLAN: We’ll plan for a 7pm-ish showing of both films and will meet in the upstairs lobby area about 30 minutes before showtime! Once showtimes are announced, advance ticket purchase via the GFC website is advised! Once you have yours, please list your movie of choice and seat number in the Comments section of this event. Complete details will be confirmed/announced as the date gets closer.
PARKING: Close, convenient parking is available in the nearby garage (located between 9th and 11th, just off High St). Bring your ticket with you and have it validated at the theater and for $2, you’re covered for the night!
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
The Graduate
This 1967 film is widely regarded as one of the best American movies ever made. Now remembered almost as much for its Simon and Garfunkel music as its deadpan comedy and being the role that established Dustin Hoffman as the hottest actor in Hollywood. It became a cultural icon for capturing the spirit of 60s angst of a young man on the make, while garnering a batch of Oscar nominations.
After watching the movie on your own, join us to relive (or experience!) those feelings at our discussion.
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!

The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!
Dinner & a Movie: PROJECT HAIL MARY at Marcus Pickerington!
Join us as we get together to see Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller in the highly anticipated sci-fi adventure, PROJECT HAIL MARY! The film is based on the best-selling novel of The Martian and follows a man who awakens on a spacecraft before realizing his mission to save Earth. Here’s a description, trailer and plan for this event:
DESCRIPTION: A science teacher wakes up on a spaceship, light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission to save the Earth. The film is directed by the filmmaking due Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (21 and 22 Jump Street, Into and Across the Spider-Verse) and is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir (The Martian). The film stars Ryan Gosling, Sandra Huller (Anatomy of a Fall, The Zone of Interest), Lionel Boyce, Milana Vayntrub and Ken Leung.

BUZZ AND REVIEWS: The buzz and reviews for PROJECT HAIL MARY are off-the-charts good! The film is earning a 95% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, where critics call it an “old school blockbuster crowd-pleaser” and “a new sci-fi classic!” It’s “deeply hopeful,” well-acted,” funny,” “dramatic,” and “exceptionally rousing throughout!” Others call it “something truly magical” and one that “we’ll be talking about this one for decades to come!” And I believe Slashfilm says it best: “It will lift up and squeeze your heart, crack you up with laughter, and give you a sense of hope and wonder in a way that few movies have been able to inspire.”
MOVIE PLAN: Please purchase your ticket for the 2:30pm SuperScreen DLX showing and meet in the lobby area between 2:05 and 2:15pm! Tickets already on sale and will likely move fast for this hot ticket / opening weekend showing so advance ticket purchase as soon as possible is advised! DINNER PLAN: Dinner immediately following the movie at 5:30pm at group favorite, FUGU SUSHI, located just next door! Separate RSVP required for the Dinner / Movie portions of this event.
