Poetry Reading: Gentle Words & Deep Ideas đđ«đȘâš
**Welcome to the Paris Poetry Circle!**
Now in its 30th year, our English-language poetry reading group continues to bring together lovers of verse and thought in the heart of Paris. đ
Join us this Wednesday evening for a gathering of minds and voices as we read and reflect on poems that move, challenge, and illuminate â all shared over a quiet cup of tea and biscuits. đ«âïžđȘ
We seek poems that are clear yet profound, sweet or serious â those that carry us forward and help us make sense of the world. We steer clear of the obscure or needlessly complex; we value clarity over cleverness, sincerity over show.
Each poem is read anonymously to begin with, without revealing the author, allowing space for open, unbiased interpretation. We then explore it together â carefully, curiously â to uncover what lies beneath the surface.
After the meeting, we write a letter of thanks to the living poets we have read at the group, to thank and congratulate them. We revere all the poets of this world.
The group is small â usually six or seven thoughtful individuals, up to a maximum of ten. The conversation is warm, intelligent, and grounded. There is no performance, no pressure to contribute, and no cost. Only a shared pursuit of insight, beauty, and fellowship.
If that resonates with you, weâd love to welcome you. Bring a poem, or simply bring yourself. đâš

Moonrise Picnic Wed Mar 4th, 7:30-9 PM, Pont des Arts
**Ahoy there,**
The next moonrise picnic will be Wed March 4, from 7:30 pm - 9 pm. (Moonrise around 8:25 pm.)
This is one day after the official full moon to allow me to join you immediately upon my return to Paris, totally jet-lagged though I may be. Yes as host I am in charge of the calendar. đ€Ł
Clear ski (oops, too much time on the slopes in Colorado) permitting we may get a spectacular view of moon through the pagoda cupola on the roof of Theatre de Sarah Bernhardt at Place de Chatelet. According to my notes, this happens every March.
The March full moon was known to Native Americans as the Full Worm Moon due to the fact that the thawing ground gives way to earthworms who say hello to the earliest robins. Other names include Full Crow Moon because of crows signaling the end of winter, Full Crust Moon because of crusty snow from thawing by day and freezing by night, the Lenten Moon between Mardi Gras and Easter, the Full Sap Moon because of tapping maple trees.
**WHAT**: Everyone brings food and drink to share.
**WHERE**: Pont des Arts. We'll gather around the bench just past the middle of the bridge (3rd bridge from the Left Bank side). Nearest metros: Pont Neuf and Louvre-Rivoli.
**WHEN**: Wed March 4, from 7:30 pm - 9 pm
**WHY**: Share one of the most memorable sights in Paris with some of the nicest people around.
**WHO**: You and your friends.
**HOW** to find us: Keep your eyes out for a bunch of nice people speaking English and French, laughing, drinking and munching around a bench, near the middle of the bridge. Look for a small white telescope if itâs not raining.
**THEME**: Crepes
**BIRTHDAYS**: Are you Pisces? If so, let me know so we can celebrate your birthday this month and blow out the worldâs largest birthday candle.
**PUZZLER**:
The Puzzler is back due to popular demand. Yay! Credit and thank you for this one goes to Gerda. So keep your suggestions coming.
Like the majority of galaxies the Milky Way is a spiral galaxy. How flat is it (in relation to its diameter)? As flat as an Olympics curling stone? A hockey puck? A Formula 1 car tire? A deep dish pizza? Or what?
Hereâs an image (photoshopped composite to help you out).
https://www.reddit.com/r/space/comments/11iwq16/milkyway_above_the_monument_valley_usa_credits/
**PUZZLER ANSWER:**
The Milky Way is 100,000 light years in diameter. But itâs only 1000 light years thick. Only! That means itâs 100 times wider than it is thick. Relative to its diameter the Milky Way is thinner than a pancake. More like a crepe. (Did you miss the Easter Egg hint in the Theme?) A crepe is the only thing Neil deGrasse Tyson could compare it to. What about a DVD Neil? Or a paper plate? Or sandpaper disc? Neil is a foodie!

Play, Connect and Improv - Beginner Workshop
Come learn the fundamentals of improv theatre! Yes and, supporting your scene partner, listening all while having lots of fun.
Improv (improvisation) is a playful practice where you explore spontaneity, creativity, and collaboration. It helps you be more present and connect with others while having fun. Simply put, itâs playtime for adults.
Through a series of progressive exercises, youâll learn the basics of improv: active listening, saying âyes, and,â trusting your impulses and ideas, and supporting your partners. Step by step, youâll use these tools to create short scenes - no acting experience required.
We started our improv troop over 1 year ago and play in Paris regularly. Our troop is made up of expats from all around the world and this is why we are Foreign Exchanged ;)

Babelio

Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for March is "Our Bodies, Ourselves"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
Shut Up & Write!Âź Easton Town Center
We'll meet at The Capital One Café, 167 Easton Town Center, Space A-103. This is in the main mall where the Microsoft store used to be, on your left if you're standing at the bottom of the AMC Theater escalator.
Join us on Sunday for an hour of uninterrupted wordmaking!
âą What we'll do
Join us for an hour of writing! Weâve discovered that itâs strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itâs true for you at noon on Sundays.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
12:00 - quick intros.
12:10 - timer starts: write for 1 hour.
1:10 - chat / take off / keep writing.
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 1-1:30ish. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you!
âą What to bring
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block noise or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Electrical outlets are limited, so charge your devices before whenever possible.
See you at The Café on Sunday!

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
Weâll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for allâthe venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!
