Join the Nordic Culture And Language Exchange Meetup group this Saturday, 28 March, from 3-5pm to learn about cherry blossom viewing/festivals and how Hanami (“flower viewing”) is celebrated in the Nordic countries. We’ll learn about Kirsikkapuisto Cherry Park in the Roihuvuori section of Helsinki and the cherry trees planted by Icelandic-Japanese organizations in Hljómskálagarður Park in Reykjavík, Iceland. We’ll also explore celebrations at Kungsträdgården in Stockholm, Sakura Vårmarked in Oslo, and Copenhagen’s Sakura Festival in Langelinie Park. We will then practice our Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Norwegian, and Swedish conversation skills. After the Meetup event at the Ronald Reagan Trade Center food court, we’ll make an optional trek (about .5 mile walk) over to see the beautiful Washington DC cherry blossoms and take photos! \*Cherry Blossom season is always very busy with cars blocking roads/traffic, so it’s highly encouraged to use Metro/leave extra time. The Federal Triangle Metro Station (orange/blue/silver lines) is located on-site at the Ronald Reagan Trade Center. The Metro Center Metro Station (red line) is just 2 blocks away. There’s a public parking garage on site-if driving, maybe try entering DC from the east (Anacostia/Navy Yard area).

Based on the Andy Weir novel, it follows school teacher Ryland Grace who wakes up on a spacecraft with amnesia and tries to figure out how he ended up on there to begin with. This is a special screening as this is shown in 70mm. I’ll be seated in J11 for the 7:10 pm showing. I’ll be over at Atlas an hour before the movie starts. This hike is perfect for those who want to experience the joy and wonder of the Cherry Blossom season beyond the Tidal Basin by strolling through DC's hidden treasure, the National Arboretum, where the blossoms are already bursting out and are nearly at their peak. As we embark on this journey, we will first take a leisurely stroll through the National Grove of State Trees, where you'll see a stunning collection of trees representing each state in the United States. As we continue, we will pass through the Fern Valley Native Plant Collection, where we will immerse ourselves in the lush greenery and spot some of the unique fern species found in this area. The highlight of this trip, of course, are the Cherry Blossoms, spread out across 450 acres. Our itinerary will take us through the most breathtaking scenery of the Arboretum. When the cherry trees are in full bloom, they create a sea of pink and white petals. We will be surrounded by the delicate fragrance of the Cherry Blossoms as we hike through this magical if ephemeral wonderland. At the end of our hike, we will reach the iconic National Capitol Columns. These majestic columns, which once supported the East Portico of the U.S. Capitol, provide a picturesque spot for a rest and some stunning photo opportunities. Insight meditation cultivates our natural wisdom and compassion. Meditation practice develops concentration, which allows us to calm and steady the mind. Hike in the moonlight along the C&O Canal towpath to Great Falls, Maryland, 4 miles **Time**: Hike starts promptly at 8:15 p.m. and goes to approximately 10:15 p.m. (2 hours). It’s best to arrive about 10-15 minutes before the start of the hike (around 8:00 – 8:10 p.m). **Meeting Place**: Parking lot across from Old Angler's Inn, 10801 MacArthur Blvd., Potomac, MD. **Reservations**: Unlike CHC's Saturday bus hikes, signing up for Moonlight Hikes is not required. However, if you do sign up, you can be notified of a possible change in plan. Usually, light rain alone will not cancel the hike--for safety reasons, severe weather or a thunderstorm will. **Directions:** a. From the Beltway (I-495), take exit # 41, which is immediately north of the American Legion Bridge. When taking exit # 41, take it west towards Carderock / Great Falls, Maryland. b. This puts you on the Clara Barton Parkway, heading west. Stay on the Clara Barton Parkway for 1.7 miles until you come to a flashing stoplight. c. Make a left turn at the flashing stoplight onto MacArthur Blvd. Go for 1 mile until you see the Old Anglers Inn on your right side. Park in the parking lots across the street from the Old Anglers Inn. What to bring: a. A flashlight b. A small bottle of water c. Insect repellent d. Comfortable walking shoes (tennis shoes are fine) Cost / Donation: There is no charge for this hike, in accordance with CHC’s permit from the National Park Service. **Difficulty / Terrain**: This hike is mostly over flat terrain along the C&O Canal towpath and the Berma Road. This hike is considered to be an easy hike. **Ages**: This hike is open to all ages, so long as they can comfortably walk 4 miles. Parents need to be mindful of small children during the hike for their safety. **Dogs**: Dogs are welcome, so long as they are kept on a leash at all times, are friendly around people and other dogs, and are not taken out on the walkway to Olmstead Island.

Hello Everyone! This is the make up date for the national portrait gallery in DC since I cancelled the event in January that was supposed to happen due to snow! My advice to get there is take the metro which should be easier to get there! We will meet outside of the gallery building and then walk in you may go at your own pace we do not have to stick together!
