REST is for Agents: Rediscovering Spring HATEOAS
The playbook for AI agent integration is becoming predictable: build an MCP server, expose your APIs as tools, and define the rules in prompts. That approach works, but it often pushes workflow and guardrails into client-side logic, where they are harder to enforce and easier to bypass.
This talk presents a different approach. HATEOAS (Hypermedia As The Engine Of Application State)âa largely overlooked part of RESTâallows an API to describe allowed actions and constraints at runtime. That makes it a natural fit for agents, which need clear, machine-readable guidance about what they can safely do next.
Weâll show this in action with MoneyMate, an AI agent that performs sensitive operations such as money transfers. Using the Spring HATEOAS project, the agent is guided entirely by the API rather than by hardcoded tools or fragile prompt logic.
AI hype aside, this is ultimately a talk about architectural validation. For years, HATEOAS was the hill REST purists loved to die onâcomplete with finger-wagging about âdoing REST correctlyââwhile everyone else quietly shipped simple JSON and moved on. It turns out the purists werenât wrongâjust 20 years early. Come see why that extra structure finally pays off when your client is an LLM.

Show details below:
No Need To Be Lonely, the latest from Philadelphia band Gladie, is serene, but for only just a moment. For a moment itâs a swirling dream, like paper dancing in the wind, as Augusta Kochâs voice filters in all calm and measured with words that crack the surface of the heart. âSmall dose of humiliation/it keeps me humble/it keeps me waiting,â she sings. And then a snap as incandescent rhythms arrive like wolves at the gate, all guitar and drums like a whirling storm, and the crack on the heart tears until it becomes an ocean.
Each minute on No Need To Be Lonely is a memory carried out on the nerves of the body, unshakable melodies that become blood in the veins. There is something about a good and perfect song that lives in your bones, as if it has become a part of you. What has long been the unshakable core of Gladieâs prowess is Kochâs indelible strength as a songwriter, a craft that has only been honed with time, creating inalienable hits that will burrow in and never leave the core of your memories.
2022âs landmark Donât Know What Youâre In Until Youâre Out was Gladie cementing their status as undeniable hit makers. With a propulsive lineup set in stone, they opted to bring in an outside voice to help carve out the form of songs they had been writing and sketching out for a follow-up â enter producer Jeff Rosenstock. Journeying out to Jack Shirleyâs Atomic Garden studio in Oakland, he band was able to rely on the strength and energy of Rosenstock to help sharpen the blade on the keen edge of each track, tuning their already finely honed pop and punk sensibilities into masterworks.
No Need To Be Lonely is at its core an exploration of the balance in contrasting ideas and the beauty found in challenging times. How to find beauty growing from the soil it is not expected to seed within, how to find life in all the days you feel the weight of dying or the desire for the end. On âBrace Yourself, Koch sings, âIf you have love in one hand/pain will fill the other/I know that itâs worth it/but it really makes me wonder/about every sunset I squanderedâ as drums and guitar conjure a sun-soaked melody, like a perfect sunset on a day that felt like it might never end. As the record nears âFixerâ, we slow down once more, find peace in staying still. A piano, played slow and careful, carries the weight. The tempo held back, letting Kochâs voice soar above all else. Her voice like a perfect photograph, beautiful and vibrant, weathered by time but made that much more potent by it, repeating a mantra âI canât fix her/but I can fix me/if I tryâ like a lost step in a healing process. Later, on âI Will If You Willâ, as brushes strike a snare and Kochâs guitar takes a playful twang, she sings âthe devilâs not in the details/heâs just swimming in your beer/God the kind-faced diner waitress/whispering âsurrenderâ in your ear.â
Itâs easy to imagine it as a measure of sadness, but that isnât nearly bold enough a term. Sad as a spectrum that includes beautiful and defiant ideas, sad as a bold commitment to the light of the days that follow all the hardest ones that threaten to tear it all away. Gladie never once asks us to give up on feeling afraid or broken, what they offer instead is the opportunity to grow within the cracks that form around us, and see what oceans might flow once we tear enough at our most tender ideas.

Mob Programming at Mofer Coffee
Letâs do some coding together at a cafe! No more working alone in the weekend. Here, we write code together. And I mean together together. Not occupying-the-same-space-but-separate together.
Hereâs how it works: Jennifer brings her mobile app project, tells everyone that it is like Pinterest for recipes and sheâd like to work on the nav bar. Paul and Chloe think Jennifer's project is fascinating, and they join the group. They gather around Jenniferâs laptop and work on the nav bar for 2 hours. Jennifer is the one typing out the code while Paul and Chloe research, brainstorm, and offer suggestions.
If youâre feeling stuck on your own project or need a motivation boost, bring it to mob programming!
Want to learn by watching how others code and solve problems? Join someone elseâs project at this event!
Oh and we love your half-done projects that you are a bit embarrassed to share. Absolutely bring those to the event!
**Discord**:
We use Discord to share screen & code snippets during the event. Also feel free to share your projects here before the event!

**Event policy**:
* We have 0 tolerance for harassment.
* We donât allow the projects that are not meant to be shared in public such as school assignments, interview tasks, or trade secrets.
* The goal is to write code. We discourage you from pitching business ideas here, doing code reviews, or spending the whole event on planning what to do.
* Please buy a drink, and tip the barista well.
Agentic SDLC
**Agentic SDLC**
Software delivery is entering its next phaseâone where the SDLC doesnât just execute, it collaborates.
Agentic SDLC brings AI out of the sidelines and embeds it across every phase of the lifecycleâfrom planning and coding to testing, deployment, and operations. These arenât passive tools waiting for promptsâtheyâre proactive teammates that anticipate needs, automate repetitive work, surface risks early, and keep delivery flowing.
In this session, weâll explore how intelligent agents are reshaping the entire SDLC. Think beyond code completion: agents that refine backlog items, generate and review pull requests, create meaningful tests, enforce standards, flag risks before they become incidents, and even monitor production with context.
Weâll walk through real-world scenarios and practical implementations showing how teams are using agentic approaches to boost productivity, improve code quality, and accelerate deliveryâwithout sacrificing control or flexibility.
Youâll also see how this can be done across a diverse ecosystem of tools and platformsâcloud or on-prem, open-source or commercialâso you can adopt what works best for your environment.
Whether youâre a developer, tester, architect, or team lead, youâll leave with concrete patterns and ideas to evolve your SDLC into a smarter, more adaptive systemâwhere AI doesnât replace the team, but makes every part of it stronger.
