We listen to the birds. Gregorjevo (March 12th) is the ancient Slovenian Valentine’s Day—the day when the birds wed and the light returns to the world. Because the best celebrations deserve a Friday night, Ljubljana International is hosting a special "Gregorjevo Eve" on Friday, March 13th. For centuries people have celebrated Gregorjevo by sending small boats with wishes down the river, symbolizing letting go of winter and welcoming the light and new beginnings. This year, Ljubljana International invites you to experience this tradition together with our international community. 🚢 Here's what we're doing: We start the evening at Pub LOO-BLAH-NAH at 8PM — drinks, good company, and making our paper boats together. Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor.
