Deep Conversation-- Question Chosen in Session
Deep Conversation-- Question Chosen in Session
Welcome to our weekly event in the upstairs room of The Sister CafƩ, rue Chair et Pain 3, one block from the Grand Place. Please get there early enough to order your drink at the bar first. Thank you! After introductions we will collect questions from the group participants, choose one by voting then discuss it for an hour. Then most of us stay for drinks and bizarre conversations. Past questions have been wide and not confined to academic philosophy: What is a genuine friend? Is social media turning us into emotional zombies? Do we lose some of the experience of things by defining them? Are we driven by sex? Is loneliness a personal failure? Is morality relative? **Crucially, be kind and respectful and generous** in your disagreements; remember how much you personally enjoy someone else proving you wrong before celebrating your cutting counterexamples.

Bozar - Beauty and Ugliness in the Renaissance
Bozar - Beauty and Ugliness in the Renaissance
## Beauty and Ugliness in the Renaissance Beauty and ugliness have always fascinated people, yet their meanings shift over time. *Bellezza e Bruttezza* explores how artists from Italy and Northern Europe in the 15th and 16th centuries depicted these extremes, from refined ideals to deliberate grotesques. A rare opportunity to see extraordinary works, some appearing in Belgium for the first and only time. The exhibition traces how the standards of beauty and ugliness evolved from the last quarter of the 15th century to the end of the 16th century—key transitional periods—by juxtaposing in a rich and compelling confrontation the ways in which these two subjects were interpreted by the greatest Italian artists and their counterparts from Northern Europe. Beauty became an increasingly important social concern at this time, as shown by the rising number of 16th-century publications offering ā€œrecipes for looking beautifulā€ and advice on cosmetics and care. Meanwhile, ugliness also grew in prominence in art, appearing in a widening range of forms throughout the same period. Discover remarkable works by renowned artists such as **Botticelli**, **Titian**, **Tintoretto**, **Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo,** **Cranach the Elder**, **Massys**, and many others. After the event: drinks for those who want to keep the conversation going šŸ·āœØ \>Please sign up only if you plan to join; this will prevent us from waiting for you\. šŸ° Waterloo Battlefield & Museum Visit
**Where European history changed forever** Join us for a fascinating visit to the **Waterloo Battlefield and Museum**, one of the most famous historical sites in Europe. In **1815**, the defeat of Napoleon at the **Battle of Waterloo** ended his rule and reshaped the political balance of the continent. This moment marked the end of an era in which France dominated European politics and diplomacy. Over the following century, global influence gradually shifted toward the English-speaking world through the rise of the **United Kingdom** and later the **United States**. Because of this, Waterloo is often seen as one of the turning points that helped shape the modern international order. Today, the battlefield is a fascinating place to understand how one single day can change the course of history. Whether you know a lot about European history or are discovering it for the first time, this visit is a great way to connect with the past. --- ## šŸ“ What we’ll visit • The **Memorial 1815 (Waterloo Battlefield Museum)** • The famous **Lion's Mound**, offering panoramic views over the battlefield • The impressive circular **Panorama of the Battle of Waterloo** • A short walk around parts of the historic battlefield The museum explains the battle through interactive exhibitions and visual displays, making it easy to understand even if you are new to European history. --- ## šŸ’¶ Costs • Museum entrance: approx **€20** (paid directly at the site) • Transport: train or carpool from Brussels **Sunday Vacations organising fee:** • **€5 for Explorer members** • **Voyager and Ambassador members will be refunded upon request** --- ## 🚶 Activity level Easy visit with light walking. Climbing the **Lion’s Mound (226 steps)** is optional but highly recommended for the view. --- ## šŸ‘„ About Sunday Vacations Sunday Vacations is a **travel club and community**, not a travel agency. We bring together international professionals in Brussels through cultural visits, hikes, and trips. To participate in activities, **membership is required**. Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games! The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime! Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
