Hello friends!! I (Peter) am moving out of the country with my family! Before I go, I want to host a Kirtan Jam and chant in community one last time! The DMV Kirtan Community is very near and dear to my heart, so please come chant with me to send us off with a BOM BOM!!! K has graciously opened her home to host a 4 hour Kirtan Jam and Potluck! Come for just a bit, or stay the whole time! Please come if you feel compelled to lead a chant, play instruments, or request a chant we can learn. Of course, please come to just chant too! That is the most important aspect, after all! I like to describe Kirtan, in simple terms, as a chanting meditation. When you chant in Sanskrit, and repeat the mantra over and over, it vibrates your vocal chords and resonates through your whole body. When everyone in the room is chanting together, that vibration unifies us on a particle level and allows us to access and connect with the Divine within ourselves and each other. It is one of the main practices of Bhakti Yoga, which is another path of Yoga, which unites our mind, body, and spirit. Feel free to bring some food to share or an instrument to play. Any and all are welcome to join! Come out to swap your old game for a new to you game. Please make sure your old game is in good condition, has its instructions, all the pieces, cards, and boards securely in its original packaging. Don’t have anything you want to swap? The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event. Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association: They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education.
