10x: Agentic Development in Practice at RTL
10x: Agentic Development in Practice at RTL
At RTL we asked a simple question: if you could start from scratch, how would you actually build software today? **So we did**. And it was harder than we expected. We ran an experiment, hit our limits, rebuilt the codebase from scratch, and landed on a way of working that's genuinely different. PMs define the problem. Developers define the solution. Agents pick up the work. Our entire way of working shifted from working with AI to managing a horde of agents. We'll walk you through the whole thing: what we tried, what didn't work, how we work today, and the questions we're still figuring out. If you build software and you're curious where this is all heading, come find out. **Join us for 10x: Agentic Development in Practice at RTL live at InnSpireHQ on May 19th** * Walk-in from 17:00 * Workshop starts at 18:00 * Ends around 20:00, followed by drinks and networking * Dinner will be provided

Automating Greener Code: Using AI Agents to optimise software efficiency
Automating Greener Code: Using AI Agents to optimise software efficiency
There are many resources available for guidance on how to write code that is efficient and results in more sustainable software applications, but applying these at scale can be challenging, and often isn’t a priority for busy teams. GitHub have recently released Agentic Workflows, a way of specifying automation tasks in human-readable format to be performed by an AI agent as part of a GitHub Actions workflow. In this talk, Max Mizzi from GitHub's Sustainability team gives an overview of Agentic Workflows, and will demonstrate how they can be used to improve software efficiency through both structured green software rules and autonomous performance engineering. He'll finish by walking through a real-world use-case showing how the technology helped to dramatically reduce the energy consumption - and carbon footprint - of a major website. Come along if you want to learn more about using AI to improve the energy efficiency of your software. Check out the Green Software Brighton [website](https://greensoftwarebrighton.co.uk/) for links to previous talks. Arrive from 18:00 for pizza and drinks. Event will start at 18:30. We always head for a drink and a chat locally afterwards too. --- ***Thank you to Runway East for use of their space to host our events and to Silicon Brighton and the Green Software Foundation for supporting us.***

"Back to the Future of Code" - WeCode @ KVK
"Back to the Future of Code" - WeCode @ KVK
In a world where new frameworks, tools, and trends seem to appear every week, it’s easy to forget where true technical strength and innovation come from: the fundamentals. At Back to the Future of Code, we invite developers to **explore the foundational building blocks behind modern software**. Three speakers will each offer a different perspective on these fundamentals and highlight why they’re still at the heart of great engineering. Talks: 🎤 **Frontend Framework Dependency: Are we skipping the hard part** → Ramona Domen (Software Engineer and Impact Leader) Ramona shows how modern frontend frameworks still depend on HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. And why mastering these foundations makes you a more deliberate and powerful engineer. 🎤 **Why Great Engineers Don’t Just Write Code** → Sarah Gruneisen (Engineering Leader & Leadership Coach ) Sarah’s talk highlights how many engineers, especially women, have their strategic and technical strengths overlooked in favor of their “people skills”. She reveals how those very skills drive real technical impact and invites us to broaden our definition of engineering excellence. 🎤 **Women in Tech: Bug or Feature?** → Maaike Wachters (Software Engineer) Maaike uncovers the hidden history of female tech pioneers whose groundbreaking ideas laid the foundation for the way we code and innovate today. **Program** * 17:15 – 18:00 Walk in and dinner (vegetarian options) * 18:00 Intro WeCode and KVK * 18:20 Talks and Q&A (in English) * 20:00 – 21:00 Snacks and drinks **Who should attend?** This event is especially designed to spotlight and elevate women’s voices in tech by giving them a place on the stage. Everyone is welcome to join. **How to get there** KVK is located at Sint Jacobsstraat 300, 3511BT Utrecht. (KVK has two buildings on the same street, so look out for number 300) * By car: Paid parking is available at Q-Park La Vie or Paardenveld. * By train: The nearest train station is Utrecht Centraal, about a 10-minute walk. * By bus: Take lines 1, 3, 6, 7 or 27 to bus stop Sint Jacobsstraat. * By bike: There are bike racks available close to the location. You need to bring identification because we're in a goverment building.
[ARNHEM] Bitcoin Pizza Day
[ARNHEM] Bitcoin Pizza Day
(english/german below) **Bitcoin Pizza Dag!** Op 22 mei 2010 betaalde programmeur Laszlo Hanyecz 10.000 BTC voor twee pizza's — de eerste gedocumenteerde aankoop met bitcoin. *** **English: Bitcoin Pizza Day!** On May 22, 2010, programmer Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas — the first documented purchase using bitcoin. Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
Drunken Philosophy: What’s up with all the AI hate?
**Welcome to Drunken Philosophy** a casual, curious social discussion **Optional topic for this meetup: What's up with all the AI hate?** A recent survey found that 74% of Americans have a negative view of AI, and I want to know why. Come out and debate whether AI is good or bad. My hot take: a labor-saving tool that could potentially help cure cancer gets called dangerous because it might raise unemployment or cause a speculative investment bubble, that tells you a lot more about capitalism and the economic system we live under than it does about the tool itself. As a computer programmer, I think AI is a wonderful tool that has increased my productivity by at least an order of magnitude. I'd go so far as to say Claude Code is the best tool I have ever used. Debate me and name a better one. Is AI potentially dangerous? Yes, but so are a lot of tools. Chainsaws. Steam engines (early ones would occasionally explode and kill everyone in the room). Do you think cavemen sat around debating whether fire could be used as a weapon or for self-harm, and decided not to discover it? I have two friends who hate AI for opposite reasons: one thinks it's a fad and not useful, and the other thinks it's going to take over everything and cause human extinction. Come out tonight, have a friendly debate, and make some friends. No lectures. Friendly crowd. Drop in for one drink and stay if it's fun.
