Intermediate setlist | 1-4pm April 11th, Vortex upstairs
**Update: full for drums, bass, guitar, piano, 2 of 3 spots taken for lead instruments** 1-4pm rehearsal, Vortex upstairs Note: ensure you've practised these songs before the session. This includes confidently playing the head if you are playing lead instrument, common motifs for comping instruments and any specific bass lines or rhythms. Listen to a few versions of each song. Ideally be able to play the melody even if you're on guitar or piano. Attendees would be expected to be comfortable playing at a novice session first before signing up. Please join one of the weekend afternoon open jams first to play a few songs with other in the group. full list of scheduled sessions: [https://www.meetup.com/Practice-Jazz-Jam-Sessions/events/](https://www.meetup.com/Practice-Jazz-Jam-Sessions/events/) **What is it** a pre-selected set of jazz standards for each session that you can prepare for in advance, and rehearse live with others in a friendly and welcoming environment. See below for this week's setlist. Location: Vortex upstairs The instruments are limited to up to: 1 drummer, 1 bass, 1 keys, 1 guitar, 3 lead instruments. The top of the description will indicate if there is an available slot for your instrument. Playing the melody, or "head" - the responbility is shared between horns players (e.g. sax, trumpet), guitar and piano. Feel free to discuss among the group before each song - different parts of the head or the starting / ending heads can be played by different players. Some melodies will better suit several voices at the same time, whereas others are sensitive to variations in how they are played and may prefer a single instrument at a time. **Tunes this week (Apr 11th)** * Softly as in a morning sunrise in Cm (Michael Brecker) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSLdcEaUOJ0 * Lawns (Carla Bley) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pq8EKd1T8iw lead sheet https://musescore.com/user/43734032/scores/7508708 * I Remember You in F (Scott Hamilton) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQip0H5UKEc (Parker) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLvmK7YC7Io * Recordame in Am (Zenon, Cohen) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfRisFQE4vw Everyone is encouraged to listen to a variety of recordings for each song, but please ensure you are familiar with the recordings provided as primary references. **Preparing for the session** The chordal form of each song follow the iReal Pro app as a common reference, or you can use sheet music from Real Books. Resource for sheet music: [https://www.seventhstring.com/fbindex.html](https://www.seventhstring.com/fbindex.html) [http://therealbook.info/](http://therealbook.info/) Try to immerse yourself in the songs by listening to recordings by different artists on youtube, spotify etc. Learn the head (main melody) of the song if you can. Don't hesitate to let the band know you can play it so you can start things off **Equipment** there is a piano, drum kit (no cymbals or high hat clutch), bass and guitar amps, stands, and microphones. Drummers: please bring cymbals (none available for rental) and hi hat clutch **Vocalists** singers very welcome though usually I suggest you come to the intermediate sessions where you can pick your own song and key (as chances are many of the above are not in the right key for your range) **Cancellation policy** No refund will be provided if you can no longer make the session. If the session is cancelled, a full refund will be provided. \-\-\-\-\- any questions do get in touch!

Long Run - Chiltern Hills
Long Run - Chiltern Hills
This month we will be heading out to the Chiltern Hills, the spectacular Ivinghoe Beacon and Ashridge Estate which has a fine display of bluebells at this time of year. There are two distance options. The route is a mixture of gravel, grass and dirt trails. There is a bit of elevation thrown in too (about 350m), so make sure you are comfortable with this. We will all try and run together, adjusting the pace to suit the group. **25km Run starts outside Berkhamsted railway station 10:00am.** Lower Kings Road (South) Entrance. Those traveling from London should catch the 09:25 train from Euston and purchase an Off-Peak Return to Berkhamsted Β£22 (Β£14.60 with railcard). **18km Run starts outside Tring railway station at 11:05.** Car Park (North) Entrance. Those traveling from London should catch the 10:24 train from Euston and purchase an Off-Peak Return to Tring Β£22.20 (Β£14.70 with railcard). You are welcome to meet us in Berkhamsted or Tring, though we will be setting off promptly at the times noted above. Note that trains are not very frequent, especially to Tring. **Please indicate on the message board whether you will be joining at Berkhampsted or Tring.** All of us will finish in Berkhamsted, and afterwards go for food and drink at a pub in the town before catching the train back to London. There will be no bag drop, so please bring everything you need in a small backpack including water and snacks. Please keep checking back for up to date details on this run and update your RSVP if you are no longer able to attend. We look forward to seeing you there! Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section! IMPORTANT Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel - this gives everyone the freedom and choice. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. As most of our trips are confirmed or postponed very close to the event date - heavily depending on the weather forecasts - we advise not to buy this until the last minute. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.
