Sentimental Value
Season's greetings y'all,
Coming all the way from Norway to Nova this week, along with the weather it seems, is the family drama, Sentimental Value. It will be screening in cinema 3 at 6:40pm and rates quite highly on IMDB which is re-assuring. We'll be in the meeting place [read on for details] from 6:30pm. If you miss us there, then catch us in the cinema or the Nova Bar afterwards.
If you're out of town, or otherwise unable to attend, then I look forward to seeing you in 2026. Otherwise, wishing you a safe and happy holiday season.

Joachim Trier (The Worst Person in the World) returns with SENTIMENTAL VALUE, winner of the Cannes Grand Prix and starring returning muse Renate Reinsve (A Different Man) alongside Stellan SkarsgƄrd (Chernobyl) and Elle Fanning (A Complete Unknown).
Sisters Nora (Reinsve) and Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) reunite with their estranged father Gustav (SkarsgƄrd), a charismatic, once renowned director. When he offers stage-actress Nora a role in his new film, a deeply personal story that he hopes will launch a comeback, she turns it down. Nora soon discovers her part has been given to a young and eager Hollywood star, Rachel Kemp (Fanning), who begins to work on the film immediately. Suddenly, both sisters are forced to navigate their complicated relationship to Gustav alongside dealing with an American star nosing around their complex family dynamics.

Bring your writing tools, and anything that you have written recently (optional). Remember your earphones if you like to listen to music while you write.
There are no rules :) You can write. Or you can chat and write. You can share your work. Or not share your work. (If you need silence to concentrate then headphones are a good idea considering it is in a public space.)
Bring pen and paper as a backup.
Melbourne Central wifi available.
Who: People who write and/or want to write (more)
What: An open group of writers who meetup in a stimulating space to write together, share writing and ideas and support each otherās writing goals

2) Go up the the escalators (thereās only one set of up- escalators near the Shot Tower, you canāt miss it).
3) You are now on level 2, Dining Hall (there are signs to the right, just slightly, stating this).
4) Top Juice store is to your right. Turn right so you pass Top Juice and walk toward the food hall.
5) You are now in the food hall near a black piano. Go past this. Go to the seating at the far back corner where there are large windows facing outside.
6) Look for us writers. There should be a sign on the table. Call out your hosts name and ask if this is the writing group. We will say YES, here we are!

Merri creek, Dights Falls and Studley Park boathouse stroll and indulgence 10km
šæ **The Social Stroll Plan**
Date & Time: 27 December, 1pm
Start/Finish: Rushall Station car park (station entrance)
Distance/Duration: ~10km, ~3 hours (leisurely pace with stops)
š¶ **Segment 1: Rushall Station ā Merri Creek Circuit**
- Kick off with a flirty, social vibeāthink light banter and playful āpostāChristmas detoxā jokes.
- The Merri Creek bushland offers shaded paths, bird calls, and a gentle warmāup for the legs.
- Incorporate a āGrievance Alignment Chartā moment: everyone shares one funny holiday grievance (too much pudding, awkward family karaoke) as a satirical ritual.
š **Segment 2: Merri Creek ā Dights Falls (Yarra Bend Park)**
- Arrive at Dights Falls, where the Yarra cascades over the historic weir.
- Pause for a miniāritual: āDance of the Fallsāāa playful group stretch or sway, channeling the Eat Drink Danc ethos. Yoga instructors wanted otherwise we'll learn Gangnam style dancing from a Kpop YouTube video. This certainly assists in my attempt to start a Korean boy band!
- Snap group photos with the falls as backdropābadgeāworthy material for your satirical campaign kits.
ā **Segment 3: Dights Falls ā Studley Park & Studley Park Boathouse**
- Meander through Studley Park picnic areas, weaving in bushland and river views.
- Arrive at the Studley Park Boathouse for coffee, snacks, and a cheeky toast to āpostāXmas drop tour hair and relax vibes.ā
- Suggested ritual: āCompliance Log of Indulgenceāāeach person logs their chosen snack as part of the satirical kit.
š³ **Segment 4: Return via Yarra Bend ā Rushall Station**
- Stroll back along the Yarra Bend bushland, soaking in lateāafternoon light.
- Close with a āReāEducation Pamphletā reflection: what indulgence will you drop before the Kokoda prep walk?
- Finish at Rushall Station car park, energized but relaxed.
š **Thematic Layering**
- Eat Drink Danc Melbourne spirit: playful rituals, spontaneous stretches, satirical mottos.
- PostāChristmas vibes: light detox humor, relaxed pace, indulgence logs.
- Preparation for Kokoda 1000 Steps (Jan 4):
- Treat this as a training strollāsteady pace, mindful breathing, light climbs and dumb jokes and an attempt to create a bachelorette style recruitment drive for groupies for the Korean boy band I'm planning without the swimsuit competition.
- Encourage group camaraderie: āIf we can laugh through 10km, we can climb 1000 steps.ā
šŖ§ **Suggested Motifs & Slogans**
- āFalls, Feasts & Footstepsā ā motto for the day.
- Badges:
- Commissar of Coffee (for the first to order at the boathouse)
- Dance Marshal of Dights (for leading the falls stretch)
- Studley Snack Auditor (for logging indulgences)
---
This stroll becomes more than a walkāitās a social satire circuit, a playful ritual of bushland, falls, coffee, and camaraderie, all while gently prepping for the Kokoda 1000 steps climb and walk next week

Columbus Comedy Improv Meetup at Gresso's!
Whether you've never done improv before, or you've done it for so long you knew Del Close on a personal level, or anywhere in between, come join us! Swing by *Gresso's* for the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup** for some fun and games!
The idea behind improv is to create entire scenes from scratch based on a suggestion from the audience. This can be done in game form, like *Whose Line Is It Anyway*, *ComedySportz*, or *Wild 'n Out*; it could also be done to tell stories, like *Middleditch and Schwartz*. Our meetup, which is central Ohio's longest running (and free!) weekly comedy event, brings the games (and occasionally different forms) for you to play in a safe, supportive, and compassionate environment. Not only is it a lot of fun, but you get to work on thinking faster on your feet, plus it's an excellent way to meet new people and make friendships that'll last a lifetime!
Ask yourself if you want to join the **Columbus Improv Comedy Meetup**, and say "Yes, And" that you'll have fun!
Speak Easy (Storytelling)
The topic for January is "Chemistry"
Speak Easy: true stories, told live.
The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 7:00 pm, show starts at 7:30 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast.
Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect.
The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. Hang around after the show for a drink and build community!
