Vienna Storytelling Collective's hugely popular **OPEN MIC STORYTELLING** nights continue on **Thursday 16th April 2026 at 19.00h** in Café Korb, with the audience-chosen theme "Fly on the Wall" At our OPEN MIC STORYTELLING NIGHT performances range from stories, songs, poetry and stand up from aspiring writers, plus we always have a selection of experienced and/or established professional writer/performers to close the first and second halves of the evening for us. Vienna Storytelling Collective’s Open Mic event is one-of-a-kind for Vienna, an English language event where creative minds come together to share captivating stories. Whether you are an author, poet, writer, or just someone who loves storytelling, this evening is the perfect place to share your work or simply be inspired by others. Our open mic sessions provide an opportunity to perform your short stories, poems, share your songs (piano available) , or even try your hand at stand-up comedy or spoken word performances. It's a great way for newcomers to the city to meet like-minded individuals in the performing arts and fiction writing scene. This is for improvisers who understand the foundations and concepts of improv and want that extra challenge to perform or refine their performance skills. **Teacher:** Shawn Fisher Shawn Fisher is an improviser, performer, and educator. With over 15 years of experience in improv, you can see him with The English Lovers, one of Vienna’s longest-standing improv groups, Two-Buttons Short, and with Rainbow’s Last Wish. Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles. Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and moderated by the curator. WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. In this sense, the film is always merely the current highlight in an explorative, ongoing group discussion. **FilmStory** is a members-only series that involves a closely knit community of cinephiles. Events take place every Sunday in a comfortable, private setting with limited capacity. Participation is reserved primarily for regular members, but we're always ready to make new friends! Non-regular members may request to meet the community and, upon acceptance as a "new joiner," are welcome to participate in one event, according to space availability. Try out his famous "The Bat" format, find a new duo partner, and learn about curiosity and suspicion. **APR 17 The BAT - 6h Format Workshop** In this workshop I will take you through the experience of one of my signature formats, The Bat, which is essentially a longform improv piece that players play with their eyes closed for an audience who experiences your “theater of the mind” as they sit in a darkened theater. The Bat may contain elements of both Narrative and Freestyle long form sensibilities, and each is somewhat a unique reflection of the collective personalities of the players who perform it. These steps will be very helpful to experience, whether you remain with the Duo partner or to begin working in another Duo going forward. Come write with us at Cafe Pierre every Sunday at 18:00-20:00! A message from Shut Up & Write: "Shut Up & Write hosts free, in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer—regardless of genre or skill level—has access to the resources, community, and accountability that they need to be successful in their personal writing goals." And what this looks like at our event: We chat and give short introductions to what we are working on at 18:00, then start writing at 18:15. Though we try to start on dot, being late isn't a problem—just find a spot and get to work! We write until 20:00 and then discuss how our writing went. From fiction to non-fiction, academic papers to poetry, applications to work-related writing—anything goes! Nothing is needed except for you to bring whatever is need to get stuff done, i.e. laptop, headphones, pen and paper, and so on. Optional socialising may happen before 18:00 and after 20:00, or you may choose to use this time to get some more done! The topic for April is "Water" Speak Easy: true stories, told live. The idea is simple: an audience, an open microphone, and great stories. Hilarious, gripping, poignant- it's up to you. Audiences are invited to come to listen or come to tell as folks from all corners of Columbus offer their stories live on stage! Held at Wild Goose Creative's warm, intimate space, this night of tales occurs on the 3rd Thursday of every month. Doors open at 6:30 pm, show starts at 7:00 pm. Please arrive early if you want to tell, as we generally only have room for a limited number of tellers, and the sign-up sheet has a tendency to fill up fast. Formed around the idea that people need stories--they're what hold and draw us together--SpeakEasy celebrates the strangeness and commonness of being human. And in a world of smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, and more . . . it gives people a real, breathing, in-person way to connect. The night is geared for true stories of all kinds, taking the best tales told around kitchen tables, in darkened pubs, on the street corner, and at late-night parties and giving them an audience. Speak Easy is also a great outlet for performers, writers, and artists looking to share their favorite stories and perfect their skills. We strongly encourage tellers to please tell the story rather than read it so we keep within the spirit of good storytelling and stay engaged with the audience. All are welcome. We also have one-shots of indie, OSR, and narrative-focused RPGs such as Apocalypse World, Dread, Lady Blackbird, and Old School Essentials! Everybody's welcome! It doesn't matter if you've never tried story games before or never played roleplaying games at all! The Forge does have a full bar and kitchen. There is no cover charge but they do request all attendees to purchase a minimum of ~$20 per person. Soft drink refills are $1 each. Please support our hosts so we can continue to provide great events for the group! The Forge has a large library of games available for us to enjoy. Hosts and regulars will also provide numerous popular games but please bring any games you would like to teach and/or play. Doors open at 6, and we expect gaming to be rolling by around 630. Please promptly end your games and clear out the space at 10pm when the bar closes. We encourage socializing but do not permit disruptive behavior of any kind. Dodgeball is back again! If you’ve been wanting to come out, this is an easy one to join. We’ll be playing for about 1.5 to 2 hours, you do not need to bring any equipment, and no experience is needed. We use a specific set of rules and equipment to make the games run better and keep them fun for everybody, not just people who already know how to play. If it rains, the event will be canceled.
