The heroine of this story is repeatedly reincarnated to succumb again and again to a hopeless romantic fixation. In the 17th century she catches sight of a rogue who’s about to be publicly executed and instantly falls in love with him. When she makes a mad dash to stop the proceedings, her recklessness gets her killed in a freak accident. Successive eras find her chasing the same man in various circumstances, each time failing both in love and life. Not only is she fated to die for love again and again, but she’s condemned to adopt the hairstyles and wigs of whatever era she enters. The story is quirky, confusing (in a good way), and full of sardonic humor, and the cinematography – in particular, the use of color – adds a curiously mesmerizing effect. Fans of romantic-death comedies should not miss this one. · Dames · by Berkeley & Enright @ Mary Riley Styles Library
· Dames · by Berkeley & Enright @ Mary Riley Styles Library
Busby Berkeley’s movies tend to all have the same general plot: someone’s trying to mount a show, usually on Broadway, but something happens that puts the project in jeopardy. In this feature a multimillionaire who thinks that stage shows are “filthy” entertainment organizes a boycott. This obstacle will be overcome, of course, because without a show there can’t be the elaborately choreographed fantasy sequence for which Berkeley is so famous. Love both real and feigned wends its way through the action, with a happy ending inevitable for all. ■ Title — *Dames* ■ Director — Busby Berkeley, Ray Enright ■ Cast — Joan Blondell, Dick Powell, Ruby Keeler ■ Rating — Approved (suitable for general audiences) ■ ©1934 \| 1h 31m \| Comedy\, Music\, Musical\, Romance

The Let Go: 5Rhythms Friday Night
The Let Go: 5Rhythms Friday Night
To purchase tickets - https://www.annkite.com/friday-nights This is a group of 60-75 people that dance the together weekly on Friday evenings. Ann is a master teacher who has taught embodied movement as connection to spirit for over 18 years. She is fully trained in 5Rhythms (both waves and heartbeat levels), attended the teacher training for Soul Motion and has a Masters in Education. A born teacher. Her classes offer a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Ann has held this group, a dynamic community has been created to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the ego’s hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free. Creativity. Connection. Community. There are no steps to learn. 5Rhythms can be practiced by anyone regardless of age, fitness, ability, or experience. For more information about what to expect in your first 5Rhythms class, see our About 5Rhythms page: https://www.annkite.com/about

Contra dance with Big Scioty on Feb. 7 - First Congregational Church
Contra dance with Big Scioty on Feb. 7 - First Congregational Church
**Caller: Dan Kappus** **Band: Trillium** **Big Scioty Contra Dance** **temporarily returning to our long ago location for Jan-March - First Congregational Church, 444 E. Broad St., Columbus 43215** WHAT IS CONTRA DANCING? Picture the Grand Ball scenes like you’ve seen in period films such as “Pride and Prejudice”, where the dancers are lined up in long lines, across from each other. That’s English Country Dancing, the predecessor of contra dancing. Now, add moves like “swing your partner” and “do-si-do,” like you’ve seen in square dancing. Set it to fabulous, high energy, live music with fiddles, guitars, percussion and more, alá “Riverdance.” Finally, set the whole scene down in the middle of Woodstock, with a hip, groovy atmosphere, a bit of tie-dye, and hints of counter-culture attitude. THAT’s Contra Dancing! Wear cool and comfortable clothes (you will get warm) and clean shoes that won't mark up our nice wood floor. Be sure to come for the beginner's lesson from 7:30 - 8:00, followed by dancing 8:00 - 10:30. All dances are taught; we will help you learn! Beginners always welcome, no need to bring a partner. Cost is $10.00 adults, $5.00 ages 12-26. Under 12 free. Free parking in church lot. For more information contact me or check out our website: [www.bigscioty.com](http://www.bigscioty.com/) Please bring your own refillable water bottle. Snacks to share are always welcome!

Bad Girls Book Club February 2026
Bad Girls Book Club February 2026
**Our February novel is: Julia by Sandra Newman** **This month is a classic, dystopian, fiction, literary fiction, women’s fiction, and science fiction novel. The book is 394 pages in print and 14 hours and 20 minutes on audiobook.** **An imaginative, feminist, and brilliantly relevant-to-today retelling of Orwell’s 1984, from the point of view of Winston Smith’s lover, Julia, by critically acclaimed novelist Sandra Newman.** Julia Worthing is a mechanic, working in the Fiction Department at the Ministry of Truth. It’s 1984, and Britain (now called Airstrip One) has long been absorbed into the larger trans-Atlantic nation of Oceania. Oceania has been at war for as long as anyone can remember, and is ruled by an ultra-totalitarian Party, whose leader is a quasi-mythical figure called Big Brother. In short, everything about this world is as it is in Orwell’s 1984. All her life, Julia has known only Oceania, and, until she meets Winston Smith, she has never imagined anything else. She is an ideal citizen: cheerfully cynical, always ready with a bribe, piously repeating every political slogan while believing in nothing. She routinely breaks the rules, but also collaborates with the regime when necessary. Everyone likes Julia. Then one day she finds herself walking toward Winston Smith in a corridor and impulsively slips him a note, setting in motion the devastating, unforgettable events of the classic story. Julia takes us on a surprising journey through Orwell’s now-iconic dystopia, with twists that reveal unexpected sides not only to Julia, but to other familiar figures in the 1984 universe. This unique perspective lays bare our own world in haunting and provocative ways, just as the original did almost seventy-five years ago.
