(English/Mandarin Dual Language Session) You must understand both English and Mandarin. You may speak in any language that the rest will understand. This is a semi-public meetup. Co-ordination is though Meetup PM and Whatsapp. Mostly full house. New comers pls regularly see your Meetup/WhatsApp Msgs. You may also ask me questions over whatsapp before the meetup. New comers are also expected to be early as there will be basic training and briefing before the game starts. Do note, this is a paid event. We want to cut down time wastage and go straight into play once the official time starts. If you are late, you will be completely lost. Please honour your RSVP. Frequent no shows / last minute unRSVP will be blacklisted. You are also preventing others of your slot. RSVP is not by first come first serve basis. E.g If all are newbies, I may need to parachute players that know how to play to carry the game or else everyone will not know what to say and quickly pass. This is not fun. **Get Ready for the Mountains (Moderate hike)** Before you confirm your spot, please keep in mind that this isn't just a social stroll. This is a **timed, moderate-pace hike** designed specifically to measure your current cardio fitness and help you track your physical progress over time. ### What to Expect * **The Pace:** We will maintain a consistent, moderate intensity throughout. This session acts as a benchmark for your training. * **Suitability:** If you haven't been active recently or are new to sustained cardio efforts, this pace might be a challenge. We recommend this for those who have a baseline level of fitness and are familiar with the demands of the Bukit Timah terrain. * **The Goal:** Whether you’re training for a specific high-altitude trek or just want to stay "mountain-ready," this hike is about sustaining effort and seeing where you stand. *** ### Logistics * **Meet/End:** Bukit Timah Nature Reserve (Main entrance, big rock) * **Distance:** \~7km * **Duration:** \~2 to 2.5 hours ### Essential Checklist * **Hydration:** Bring a water bottle and ensure it’s topped up before we start. * **Weather Prep:** Waterproof your electronics and bring rain gear (poncho, jacket, or umbrella). We hike in light rain, but safety comes first. * **Gear:** Hiking poles are optional but helpful for the inclines. * **Safety:** In the event of a Category 1 weather warning, I will announce any changes to the plan at least 2 hours prior to the hike. The 'Waitlist' may not go in order as we reserve the right to prioritize the spots for our trip participants who are training for our upcoming treks. Dale Gnidovec, Curator of the Orton Hall Museum of Geology at The Ohio State University, will be presenting a program he has wanted to share with us for a long time: Plate Tectonics. His description of his program: Continents on the move - Nothing in Earth history makes sense without moving continents - it tells us why mountains, volcanoes, minerals, and fossils are where they are. This talk examines the evidence for continental drift, why it was disbelieved, and explains how the more-encompassing theory of plate tectonics was developed and eventually proven. Dale is an energetic, incredibly knowledgeable, and very entertaining speaker and this will be another wonderful program by Dale. Hope to see you there! Food and drinks will be provided at the event.
