London Clojure Dojo at uSwitch
uSwitch is located on the first floor of the ZPG building at 5 Copper Row, London, SE1 2LH, London (Click on the map for directions)
What 3 words location: [https://what3words.com/puts.sudden.else](https://what3words.com/puts.sudden.else)
The Clojure dojo is a collaborative way to learn Clojure/ClojureScript through practice. The aim is to learn a little more than before you started. This event is for those new to coding through to more experienced developers.
We organise into small groups (2-4) people and write code to solve challenges great and small, chosen by those at the event.
We aim to ensure someone in your group has some Clojure experience, so you shouldn't feel lost (well no more than all developers do when Stack Overflow is broken).
Example challenges for the coding dojo are listed on this website: http://www.londonclojurians.org/code-dojo/
Various past exercises have been loaded to

# Approximate schedule:
18:40 Doors open and start collecting suggestions
18.45 Pizza should have arrived
19:00 Quick intros and vote on suggestions
19:15 Break out into groups and start practising
20:45 Gather together for a quick show and tell
# What should I bring?
We organise into small groups, so if you have a laptop with a working Clojure environment please bring it along (there are lots of online Clojure environments, so you can just use your browser too).
# How do I get in to the building?
At the glass doors press the buzzer to inform the security guard you are here. Say you are here for the event on the first floor.
Is there way to talk with the Clojure community?
Why yes. The Clojurians Slack channel is full of friendly people who love to try and help. People based in London are often in the #clojure-uk channel. Sign up for a free account to the Clojurians Slack community via http://clojurians.net/
What is Clojure?
Clojure is a JVM language that has syntactically similarities to Lisp, full integration with Java and its libraries and focuses on providing a solution to the issue of single machine concurrency.
Its small core makes it surprisingly easy for Java developers to pick up and it provides a powerful set of concurrency strategies and data structures designed to make immutable data easy to work with. If you went to Rich Hickeyโs LJC talk about creating Clojure youโll already know this, if not itโs well worth watching the Rich Hickey โClojure for Java Programmersโ video or Stuart Halloway โRadical Simplicityโ video .

FRENCH CONVERSATION (Rusty Intermediate) with a native tutor
***WARNING***
*If you are new to our Meet Up or haven't attended any class for months, please, BEFORE signing up to a conversation class, send an email in French to Christian at frenchlondonexperience at gmail dot com ; Anyone -* aforementioned - *signing up to a class before getting an agreement will be removed from the list. Thanks for your cooperation.*
You want to improve your fluency, your pronunciation and your French skills? You want to get more vocabulary, knowledge and understanding of French, the French and France? You want to speak on various topics with the support of a French native tutor?
Each week, we come up to a different theme. It pushes your conversation skills up. It helps you to speak about many topics and to interact in French in multiple contexts.
Regular attendees learn a lot, make improvements and are able to have a chat about numerous topic!
The bonus, you will be able to ask questions to an authentic French native!
**THE CLASS:**
This is a face-to-face conversation class lasting 60 minutes run by a French native & professional tutor (in London since 2016).
This is a Conversation Class dedicated to French learners who struggle to have a spontaneous conversation. If you think your French is rusty, if you feel not really comfortable to interact among a group of other French speakers, this class is for you (if not sure, send a message in French to the organiser).
The class goes on an adapted pace with a first part dedicated to a chit-chat and then we'll focus on a short text to learn about French culture and the language.
We approach the theme, read a short text (you get a copy for the session), speak, learn vocabulary and things about French culture. The theme is always linked to French, the French and France. At the end, we wrap up and keep a few minutes for some miscellaneous questions.
After the class, you will get an email with a list of vocabulary (some words / expressions seen along the class).
This is a very small group class: maximum of 4 attendees and a minimum of 2. So you will speak directly to the tutor.
During the class, the tutor helps you to structure and improve your phrasing, and to develop your understanding.

Let's meet up and speak English at a museum!
Our first 'class cultural trip' was really fun so I'm carrying on the series and we're going to keep exploring the British Museum.
The idea is we'll meet in the cafe at the British Museum, and then choose which part of the museum we want to explore. We'll walk around it, stopping to look at things we find interesting. I'll help you with the vocabulary you need to talk about what you can see. At the end we'll go back to the cafe to summarise what we've learnt and do a little vocabulary test to see what you can remember from your visit!
If you are late, don't worry too much, because we will stay in the cafe until everyone has arrived and then start exploring the museum.
I hope to make 'cultural visit classes' to museums/ exhibitions/ galleries into a regular event so let me know which places you are interested in. I plan to choose places that have free entry.
I need a minimum of 2 students to run this Meetup. Maximum 5 students so everyone gets a good chance to speak.
Online gentle Yoga, Qi gong and meditation for inner peace
Come and join me for some **energising Yoga, healing Qi gong and relaxing meditation** and connect with some lovely people. This is your โmeโ time to nourish your mind, body and spirit, release energy blockages holding you back, heal your body and lift your spirits โบ๏ธ
โI've been going to Sarah's Qi Gong class for nearly 3 years, and it is amazing. Many a time I start off the class feeling out of sorts and low and I come away feeling so peaceful and trusting that everything will be OK. Sarah is an amazing teacher and so welcoming and has a very strong healing energy about her, and the small group of women has formed a really nice bond. There is a varied mix of things we do in the class including energy medicine, yoga stretches, sometimes dance, meditation, chakras- the list goes on! I have health issues and it is a really good healing rest for my body. So glad I found it and Sarah- wouldn't miss it for the world.โ Grace, Sheffield
I have been running this special class since lockdown and have a group of regular people who attend (which doesnโt show on RSVP). We have created a **beautiful high vibrational energy** in this class that is healing, nurturing and uplifting.
๐บ Yoga is known to help **release tension from the muscles** where we hold stress, this in turn releases tension from the mind. We will do spiritual yoga which is the traditional form of yoga. Itโs gentle, slow, meditation in movement.
๐บ Qi gong is an ancient Chinese healing practice which is gentle yet powerful at calming the mind, **clearing energy blockages** and healing the body. We will do various movements each week such as techniques that help with digestion & adrenal glands to restore your energy that I will share intuitively where I feel guided.
๐บ Donna Eden energy exercises are a form of gentle movements that help boost the immune system and clear stuck energy which causes low mood and lack of motivation. We also do **chakra clearing** to help you to feel more emotionally balanced.
๐บ Meditation to help calm mind chatter and breathing exercises to calm the nervous system and lift the mood. I also guide you through a gratitude practice at the end that **helps you to manifest what you desire!**
**ENERGY EXCHANGE**\~ ยฃ6 only. Although this is a very uplifting healing class that is of high value, I keep the price low so that itโs accessible to everyone.
Book your space here: https://buytickets.at/sarahmonreal/676431 & you will receive the zoom link via email. Check your junk box just in case.
If you wish to do the class in your own time. Hereโs the link to get your recording. Itโs ยฃ5 and is 50 minutes long. https://www.tickettailor.com/events/sarahalvarez/496209
**What you need to bring**
If you have a yoga Matt thatโs great, if not you can do the exercises on the floor. I recommend investing in a yoga Matt so you can do the floor movements comfortably. Amazon and EBay sell reasonably priced yoga matts from ยฃ10. Please also have a cushion nearby as you may need it for some movements.
\*\*By participating in this class you agree to take full responsibility for your health and even though this class is gentle, contacting your doctor if you have a medical condition which you are concerned about may affect your ability to participate. You are advised to listen to your body during the class & do what feels comfortable. You are welcome to sit during many of the qi gong moves, it will be just as powerful.
I look forward to seeing you there!
Testimonials from regular attendees
Sarah is always so welcoming, friendly and relaxed, creating a wonderful space for us to focus on ourselves. I love the blend of different practices where my body is gently stretched, my mind calmed and my spirit nourished. No matter how I feel beforehand I always feel relaxed and uplifted afterwards. I would highly recommend this to everyone! Susie, Kent
Iโve been doing Sarahโs class for a few years and find it very helpful. The moves are easy to do yet have a big impact. I always feel better afterwards. Jacquie, London

**Hear From Our Learners:**
"The Language games session provides a well-structured and immersive way of learning. Even as a beginner I am able to practice all aspects of the language and have learnt a lot whilst having fun!" - Jeremy Smithers
"The Sunday games session is in a classroom environment but relaxed with organized team-based games designed to facilitate conversation. Itโs a good way to consolidate what you know and pick up some new vocab. The folks who attend vary massively in ability so itโs not competitive, but more a chance to learn from people who are more advanced and help along newbies. I recommend it!" - Mark Mansell

It's learning through play, with expert support!
**Iโm not into games, is it still for me?**
Yes!! Think of it as immersive practice, not gaming. Even if youโre not a gamer, you will enjoy learning Mandarin this way! Our activities are designed to boost your vocabulary, pronunciation, and fluency in a natural and engaging way.

Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association:
They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other churchโstate issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEAโs early wins and hard lessons, what weโre seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape โ and practical ways to get involved.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online
