Wednesday Badminton Mounier (no beginners, competitive)
**First time comers**
Please make sure to read the rules and contact the organizer before! Otherwise you will be moved to waiting list. Apologies for inconvenience but we have to do it to avoid no-shows.
**Games format.**
95% are double games (unless someone needs a break), typically 4 people play together 2 sets and then mix with players from other fields. We play with plastic shuttles - Yonex Mavis 2000 (which are provided).
**Registration**
If it's your first time, please send a private message to the host to confirm. No-shows are taken quite seriously because they unbalance the games a lot. Also once you register please keep an eye on you private messages, in case we need to contact you.
**Players level**
Having players with much less experience often unbalances the game making it much less interesting for more experienced players. We still try to be welcoming.
As a rule of thumb, if you know what a "clear" is, you are welcome to join.
(Note that on Sundays the attitude is a bit more relaxed than on Wednesdays, it's the weekend after all ;) )
Otherwise, feel free to get in touch with me (Timur) and we can see if we can arrange so you and existing players can have good experience playing.
**Price and payments**
The price of participation is EUR 8.95. Payment is on-site in cash, or via payconiq. Info provided during or shortly after the event.
**Cancelations and no-shows**
* Switches and cancellations are free of charge if done more than 50 hours before the start of the matches
* If you cancel within the 50-hour window before the event starts, you will be placed on the wait-list for the next week's event, whether or not a replacement is found. If no replacement is secured, you'll still need to cover your share of the costs.

**This compelling fly-on-the-wall study, hilarious and heartbreaking at once, shows poor Mr Gilliam’s visionary project disintegrating like a slow-motion car crash**
[...]
Their compelling fly-on-the-wall study, hilarious and heartbreaking at once, shows poor Mr Gilliam’s visionary project disintegrating like a slow-motion car crash. The double hernia and slipped disc that zonked his lead actor, Jean Rochefort, the flash floods that swept away his camera equipment, the overhead Nato jets which wrecked his soundtrack, the actors who didn’t show up, and finally, the implacable money-men who declared that the star’s indisposition was not covered by insurance as it was an Act of God. The Act of a furious Old Testament God with a serious grudge against Terry Gilliam. Perhaps He had seen The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and had decided enough was enough.
Anyway: the film’s French producer, René Cleitman, elegantly summarises the situation for a gobsmacked audience of crew and investors: “This shows us the fragility of Jean Rochefort and the fragility of cinema itself.” Nicely put, though this verbal flourish seemed not to impress everyone assembled, who wore the stunned faces of people who were about to not get paid – in a very big way.
Les Blank’s Burden of Dreams has its Fitzcarraldo; Fax Bahr and Eleanor Coppola’s Hearts of Darkness has its Apocalypse Now. But Lost in La Mancha has zilch. It’s the ultimate evolutionary form of the movie-madness documentary genre. A footnote to a text that isn’t there. A documentary about a legendary film that doesn’t exist. A legendary film whose legendariness must reside purely in the documentary, which shows what it can salvage from the dailies, and the on-location footage of producers, directors and crew hollering at each other. It is a pleasingly post-modern twist which Cervantes himself would have enjoyed, having written a book about absurd follies, delusions of grandeur and the deficit between fiction and reality.
And then of course there is Gilliam himself: a Quixotic figure if ever there was one, though shrewdly, Fulton and Pepe don’t labour the point. The director is excruciatingly aware of the parallel, being, as he tells us, 61 years old (though a very handsome and rangy 61) and modestly declaring himself not yet to have accomplished enough in his lifetime. The idea of a Quixote movie had already consumed Orson Welles, but why shouldn’t Gilliam take it on and slay the dragon of ill-omen? No one mentions the Titanic parallel, an idea thought to be jinxed after Lew Grade produced his awful Raise the Titanic in 1980, yet James Cameron had a multi-Oscar triumph with the old boat 17 years later. Unlike Gilliam’s Quixote, however, Titanic had serious Hollywood cash behind it, and no one involved is in the mood to make a zany indie movie about the scary and unfunny near-catastrophes that attended that project.
What is fascinating about Lost in La Mancha is the psychological phenomenon of denial. Everyone, from Terry Gilliam down to the lumpy, monobrowed extras Gilliam has found to play his giants, are in denial about what is happening. Everyone is determinedly looking the other way. Everyone is pretending that the movie will happen. Yet why shouldn’t they? The cast and crew have probably been in precisely this sort of denial for every picture they have ever worked on – and somehow the movies get made, when every tenet of common sense and financial logic declares that they can’t, like the principles of aerodynamics that prove that a bumble-bee can’t fly. Being in denial is a vital part of maintaining morale, momentum and keeping the financing house of cards upright.

Tennis doubles (NOT FOR BEGINNERS) - Terdelt Schaerbeek
Hello! This is a meet-up to play tennis from 2 pm to 4 pm on Sunday. Meeting is on the courts. The courts are booked under the name Jean-Marc. This event is for intermediate and advanced players and not organised for novice players or beginners.
Please make sure to bring the exact sum of 10 € in cash.
The event is non-commercial. This sum covers the cost of the courts reserved. The organizer is not there to make money out of you. Ladies are encouraged to join.
If anyone wants to drop out, they should do it on Saturday morning, not on Sunday the day of the meetup, another wise it would be too late to find a replacement in time or to cancel a court in time with reimbursement. If you don't do this, you will be asked by the organizer to reimburse your participation fee. If this happens too late then those who have cancelled after Saturday morning will have to cover the extra cost for reserving the courts.
In the past meetups, it happened too many times that we were an oneven number and because of that all those present had less fun to play. If you don't show up without giving a written excuse in time, the first future participation will be cancelled and you will be asked to reimburse the participation fee. If it happens too many times you will not be able to participate anymore.
In case if we are an uneven number of players, then the last player (except the host of course who has to collect the money) can leave or persuade other players to play with him or her. Of course if the last player leaves, then he or she doesn't have to pay the participation fee. If this player leaves, he or she will be added on a future event by the host or organizer in the participation list if the player is far away in the waiting list. This is the advantage of leaving on a voluntary basis;-).
We operate on the principle of Fair Play as we do not have umpires or referees. Any disputes or disagreements over line calls or scores should be resolved immediately on the court and, when agreement is not possible, the point or game should be replayed. To be able to replay the game, 3 players need to agree on that without manipulation of the one who disputes an entire game, anotherwise injustice could occur where in the end possibly the biggest cheater could win... This situation applies also, if the host or the organizer is involved.
When one of the players still doesn't accept this compromise, then it should be reported (meetup message by preference) to the organizer or host of the meetup event.
One of the consequences could be that the first upcoming event could be cancelled by the organizer for the player who doesn't comply with the compromise to play the point or the game again. If the same player does that again for a second time, then the person will see 4 of his next tennis meetups cancelled. If this happens a third time with the same player, then the player in question will be banned from all future tennis meetups with an exclusion as a final result.
Whenever there is a big problem, it should be reported as well to the organizer of the group so he can, if necessary, take actions to improve the situation for all the players.
Please also note that if you are the first on the waiting list, you will automatically be moved up to the attendance list if someone pulls out. So if you are on the waiting list and see that you cannot attend, please also change your status to not going.
If you would like to organize a meet up either this week or next week please get in touch with me, my name is Jean-Marc. It will depend on your initiatives to create more tennis meetups per week.

Summer Flex Season
**How does a TennisColumbus Season / League run?**
The league advertises the season dates and builds a queue of committed players for the season.
**Kickoff Day - June 10th**
The start day of the season, players are sent a kickoff email that contains important information about the league, the link where your league standings and players contact information. We guarantee 6 playing partners at your playing level, but have been averaging closer to 15+ partners in most cities. The number of different levels we run is solely based upon the number of players enrolled for the league kickoff. Typically we are running a Skilled-3.0, Competitive-3.5 and Advanced-4.0 in most cities.
**Your Task - "Flexible Scheduling"**
After this kickoff email is sent, it is the **player's task to communicate with other players**. Players should work with their partners to find an agreeable time and location to play the match. While TennisColumbus doesn't mandate your playing schedule, it is recommended that players schedule at least one match per week. By request of the players, we started to allow players to play 1 rematch per season. The regular season is all about playing as much as you can. As of Feb. 10, 2026 we've had an amazing 2,017 players play more than [20 matches in a season](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/info/MatchesInSeason).
**Where to Play?**
Play at your local free tennis courts, tennis parks, condo courts or tennis clubs. The league strongly suggests that players jointly try to pick a tennis court location convenient to both. We provide an extensive list of [tennis courts](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/TennisCourts), including # of courts, lighting, hitting walls, etc. We strive to keep this list up-to-date.
TennisColumbus sets up a must play dates to push players out on the courts. The final deadline is the date marking the end of the season, at which point players with 3-5 wins (Actually total is specified on the division page) will qualify for a post-season playoff to determine the league champion.
**How to Play?**
Players can use three mostly standard playing formats: 2 out of 3 sets, 2 sets with 10 point super tie-breaker or the 10-game pro set (First to 10, used when court time is limited). On Feb. 2018, we added Fast Tennis 4 game pro set format as a valid format.
**Playoffs**
Each season concludes with a playoffs where players with anywhere from 3 to 5 season wins qualifies for a single elimination tourney. The champion is awarded based upon the league [Prize Pool](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/info/prize_pool3). Each singles league champion also receives a playing entry into one of two national championships we run.
**[JOIN TODAY](https://www.tenniscolumbus.com/join)**
