Sutton to Howth Walk via Shielmartin Hill
This Saturday (4th July), we'll be doing a walk from Sutton DART station. From the meeting point, we'll follow the coast in a south-easterly direction, climb Shielmartin Hill (at 163m is the 2nd highest peak on Howth Head) and then see the beautiful rhododendron gardens of Howth Castle, before finishing up in Howth. Although the start and finish points are the same as a walk we did in April, the route will be mostly different.
The total length of the walk is around 8.9km and some parts are quite steep. It is recommended to wear long trousers or leggings as one of the paths has a lot or gorse next to it.
Feel free to bring snacks as we could have a short break at some point. Or if people wish, we could go for Howth's famous fish and chips or to a pub at the end of the walk.
Feel free to come on the walk even if you haven't been to a meet up before. This is a great way to meet new people and see new places.
**\*\*\* Important, please click on Attend if you wish to join this event. If you have a friend who wants to go make sure they go as your guest or ask them to join separately \*\*\***
\*\*\* If you wish to wander off during a break then it's probably OK but please agree with the organisers a time you'll return so we're not waiting for you \*\*\*
[Time] 12.04 \~ 16:30. The suggested train to catch leaves Dublin Connolly at 11:45 that gets into Sutton (one stop before Howth) at 12:04pm. It actually starts in Bray at 10:57 and stops at all stations en route so feel free to get on at the most convenient station for you.
[Place] Outside Sutton Station

FAQs
1. Is there a charge for this event? No, this is a free event. Sometimes we have events that involve a visit to a museum or garden with an entrance fee - but this will be clearly marked in the details
2. Is it OK for people on a short visit to Ireland to join this walk? Yes both visitors and residents alike are welcome to join our walks.
3. How easy/difficult is this walk? Most walking groups would classify this as a medium walk with some steep sections, so having a reasonable level of fitness is recommended.
4. Why are there only a limited number of places for this event? To ensure the best possible experience for the people attending it is necessary to limit the numbers, especially as the chosen route may not be straightforward and along narrow paths.
5. Why is it necessary to book on this event if you wish to attend? This is because there are only a limited number of spaces (see point above) and to ensure the fairest allocation of spaces, we kindly request everyone to book a place. It's OK to change your mind about coming but please change your RSVP as soon as you have for someone else to take the place if they wish to.
PLEASE NOTE: Walking like many outdoor activities carries an element of risk. People who take part in our meet up activities do so at their own risk and are responsible for their own actions and involvement. If you register to join our meet up walks you agree that you wish to take part in the activities despite these risks.
Please wear boots, shoes or runners that you find comfortable, provide suitable support and have good grip as some of the paths may be uneven or steep. It is also recommended to bring water to avoid dehydration. Bring warm clothes and a waterproof jacket or umbrella in case of inclement weather.

Bray's Hidden Gems + Secrets Free Walking Tour
Hi everyone, I'm Jake and I'm a local history student based in Bray offering free walking tours!
Today it’s known as a seaside resort and commuter town, but Bray’s history stretches back thousands of years. The area has evidence of human activity dating back to prehistoric times and even has links to the Romans. The name “Bray” is believed to come from the Irish Brí Chualann, meaning “hill of Cualu”, referring to the nearby headland known as Bray Head.
Today Bray is the largest town in County Wicklow with a population of almost 35,000. Come along and find out about it's fascinating history!
We will leave from the visitors map outside Bray Daly Train Station at 14:30 this Sunday.
