10K Three Parks Run - Come for the Run, Stay for the Goats!
10K Three Parks Run - Come for the Run, Stay for the Goats!
\*\*The run with the highest goat count in Berlin!!\*\* Join us for a run this Saturday! Whether minus temperatures, snow, rain or shine - we run! Enjoy the virtually traffic free route, and take time out to commune with the goats and lop-eared rabbits at two mini zoos we pass on the way. Your weekend is guaranteed to start right! Stretch your legs on Saturday morning with the three parks run in the north of Berlin. We meet on Brunnenstraße across the street from Gesundbrunnen Bhf at the edge of Volkspark Humboldthain, see the map pin! From there we run towards Mauerpark, then towards Pankow along the Mauerweg. Then through Bürgerpark Pankow and back along the Panke towards Volkspark Humboldthain. The route takes about an hour, depending on our pace Highlights: \- Volkspark Humboldthain steps to the top of Flakturm \- Mauerpark grafiti wall \- option for a short uphill\, or you can stay on the flat \- Mauerweg \- Goats and rabbits at the Mauerpark mini zoo \- Trail running \- Bürgerpark Pankow \- Saying hi to the goats in the park :\) \- Panke \(river\) \- Only 1 traffic light \(to cross Osloerstr\.\) We have some options to do and usually do some altitude, i.e. stairs, in the Humboldthain park and "hill" in Mauerpark! :) We have a few variations of the route that we sometimes do to keep things interesting, they add up to the same distance. Our pace is typically \~5.45 min/km, but we'll wait for everyone! Feel free to bring friends! There is also the option to finish up at Flying Roasters on Hochstraße for a coffee afterwards! Workshop: Writing Characters & Dialogue
Workshop: Writing Characters & Dialogue
**Overview** This two day workshop is open to filmmakers, writers, and creative souls alike - Join us as we discover the amazing word of Fiction! **Workshop Description** *"Whatever You Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not"* [https://workshops.filmarche.de/event/260502_charactersanddialog](https://workshops.filmarche.de/event/260502_charactersanddialog "https://workshops.filmarche.de/event/260502_charactersanddialog") This two-day workshop will explore two essential elements of great fiction: character and dialogue. Together, we’ll first consider (and challenge) some ideas of more traditional storytelling; this is so we can then look at other, more unexpected ways to craft a vivid and undeniable narrative. We’ll discuss a range of techniques for creating characters who’re worthy of audience investment—characters who continually grow more known yet also more mysterious: * What exactly makes a character “interesting” to audiences? * What distinguishes a character arc that’s confusing from one that’s compelling? * What’re common pitfalls or out-of-date formulas for creating characters? * How can you elevate character development from basic level existence to magnetic presence? We’ll also focus on dialogue—one of the most evocative as well as most difficult-to-wield tools in a writer’s toolbox. So we want to demystify why it challenges so many writers. In class we’ll read examples of contemporary fiction writers—like George Saunders, Joy Williams, and Richard Price—who’ve cracked the dialogue code in uniquely spellbinding ways. And we’ll apply some of their techniques to our own creative work. Besides serving as a method for character development, dialogue can also act as a powerful force by which to create conflict, escalate tension, and galvanize a plot’s pacing. Together, we’ll break down some of dialogue’s seemingly more elusive principles, including: * What distinct challenges does dialogue present to writers? * What qualities do we tend to find in or use to describe the better kinds of dialogue? * How do we organically and clearly distinguish different characters’ voices from each other? * What’re some techniques to avoid writing dialogue that sounds one-dimensional or perfunctory? By the end of this workshop, you’ll come away with a greater grasp of how to craft exciting characters, write engaging dialogue, and overcome several unique challenges in storytelling. **Workshop Location and Dates** This event takes place over the course of two days (Saturday May 2nd from 10:00 - 18:00, Sunday May 3rd from 10:00 - 18:00) at the filmArche campus in Berlin Neukölln. **About the Instructor** Alexander Lumans is a fiction writer based in Berlin. He’s been awarded fellowships to The Arctic Circle Residency in 2015 and 2025, a 2018 U.S. National Endowment for the Arts Grant in Fiction, and the Philip Roth Residency at Bucknell University. His writing has appeared in The Paris Review, Electric Literature’s Recommended Reading, Guernica, PolarLit, Off Assignment, American Short Fiction, and others. And he’s won fiction contest prizes from The Sycamore Review, The Yalobusha Review, and Gulf Coast. He received his MFA from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He currently teaches for the Berlin Writers’ Workshop. And he’s currently at work on a novel set in the contemporary High Arctic of Svalbard, Norway. ### **\*To Register for the Event/Purchase a Ticket** PLEASE READ! Tickets cost between 80 - 120 euros. Time for a - well overdue - start to the 26 cycling season. Kick off with a standard loop down to the beautiful lakes of Potsdam, Werder. Stopping at my favourite beer gardens for a late lunch and swim for those who want to. If the mood is right we might even catch a band at the Weder Bluten Fest as we loop back to Potsdam station. Plenty of opportunities to drop and get the train home for those who need to be home early or don't want to cycle so far. **The Cycling** We are a not a racing bike group, but the pace is reasonable. Expect between 18 and 22 km per hour depending on who comes on the day. Bring a good bike (doesn’t have to be special just in good order. All sports bikes can take part from tour bike, racers to mountain bikes. Heavy 3 speed city bikes would not be appropriate however). **What to Bring** Bring swim stuff, suncream, spare inner tube for your tyre size, cash, waterproofs SNACKS **The Route** See you there Simon
Easy 5k with RCB
Easy 5k with RCB
Sunday mornings are for easy 5k's! Join us on our regular Sunday runs. This run is for EVERYBODY. We created RCB with the intention of connecting runners/people with each other. We know how hard it is to meet new friends in a city full of people. With RCB we want to make that easier. Every Sunday we will meet for a easy 5 kilometers (pace vary's according to people present), with a nice coffee and some socialising afterwards. We believe that running can be much more than performance or pace. Meet-up is at Maxway Coffee, Katharina-Paulus-Straße 2 at 11am. Hopefully see you there :)
Early bird bike ride: Warschauer Str → H. Neuendorf along Berlin Wall (~40 km)
Early bird bike ride: Warschauer Str → H. Neuendorf along Berlin Wall (~40 km)
Early bird ride: Warschauer Str → Hohen Neuendorf along the Berlin Wall Trail. Start your Sunday with a morning ride along the historic Mauerweg. We'll cycle from Warschauer Straße heading north to Hohen Neuendorf, following the path where the Berlin Wall once stood. The route is flat, mostly paved, and takes us through the city, along the former border strip, through forests, and past memorials and remnants of the that era. Any bike type works. No special experience needed - you just should be comfortable riding 40 km at your own pace. From Hohen Neuendorf, you can take the S-Bahn back — it connects directly to the Ringbahn and city center. Easy return! • Start: S-Bahn Warschauer Straße • End: S-Bahn Hohen Neuendorf • Distance: \~40 km • Terrain: Flat, mostly paved bike paths • Pace: The one you're comfortable with — we're here to enjoy a beautiful start to the day. We keep moving but it's not a race • Recommended to bring: water, a snack, and sunscreen • Equipment: Up to you but you're responsible for your own safety. We'll stop for coffee/breakfast along the way (pay your own). This is Part 1 of our Berlin Wall Trail series. Part 2 continues from Hohen Neuendorf to Spandau later this summer! See you bright and early! 🚲
