Kotlin → C#; Experimenting with Cross-Runtime Interop by Isuru Rajapakse, Senior Android Developer at Motorola Solutions
Kotlin is a warm, cozy blanket of null safety and garbage collection so that we don't gave to get our feet wet. But what happens when you rip that blanket away, compile your Kotlin code down to a C static library, and try to use it in a .NET application? I did it so you don't have to. And I brought the stack traces to prove it.
From Hype to Hands-On: Building Smarter Apps with the Agent Development Kit by Lovee Jain, Google Developer Expert - Cloud | Senior Software Engineer @Prezzee
AI agents are more than hype — they’re a new way to design applications. In this talk, we’ll take a practical look at the Agent Development Kit (ADK) and how developers can use it to orchestrate multi-agent workflows. We’ll explore agent types, chaining strategies, and how to integrate tools and context effectively.
The session includes a demo of a point-based buying agent that showcases how agents can interact, make decisions, and deliver value in a real-world scenario. Expect less buzzword, more code, and practical lessons you can apply in your own projects.
Agentic DevOps: I Gave AI Agents root access to a VM – Here’s What I Learned by Bishal Sapkota, Software Engineer | AI Solutions Architect | Co-founder at Outback Yak
Real Automation, self patching, persistent memory, cron jobs, and the obvious loaded gun.

Spiritual Exercises of Joseph Beuys & Rudolf Steiner
The [Joseph Beuys Cafe](https://www.instagram.com/josephbeuyscafe/?hl=en) is a Not-For-Profit Art Gallery, exhibiting the works of internationally acclaimed artist Joseph Beuys.
**EVENT LOCATION**: Room 13, Level 3, Nicholas Building, 37 Swanston Street Melbourne
*Beuys's library held 96 books by European social reformer, and esotericist, Rudolf Steiner.*
Joseph Beuys approached the "spiritual exercises" of Steiner as a way to awaken human consciousness, heal society, and bridge the gap between material existence and spiritual reality. For Beuys, art was a "spiritual substance" that he called "social sculpture" and felt that everyone should participate in a “permanent conference” to help shape a more human, free, and creative society.
**Join like-minded individuals to explore the ideas and exercises of Beuys and Steiner.** Just bring yourself and an open mind.
There will be a short introductory talk from [Ian George](https://josephbeuyscafe.com/ian-george/)
Transactional vs Relational Knowledge - Andrew Herd
Andrew Herd is facilitator of the KM Landscape, a volunteer effort to capture the broad vocabulary of KM and related terms and reduce the confusion around shared concepts around the world in our discipline.
As part of this work, some amazing and diverse thinking has been shared and out of that Andrew started to realise that a lot of knowledge concepts can be boiled down to two distinct areas: transactional and relational. He started with the DIKW pyramid with Data and Information being transactional and Knowledge and Wisdom being Relational but he has take the concept far beyond there and this month we are kicking off the year getting our heads around why automating the transaction world with AI might leave some pretty big gaps to fill and what we are KM professionals can do about it.
This event is hybrid with Andrew joining online from Belgium.
Thanks again to MinterEllison, who host the amazing space we meet in each month.

What is the Meaning of Work in the Age of AI
Please join us this Sunday as we discuss work, labour, machines and the good life. Ilya will be leading this session. It's a big topic and we are likely to continue talking about it next Sunday.
**We will meet at the Queensberry Hotel, 593 Swanston Street, Carlton (100m north of previous location) at 2pm for a 2:15pm start sharp.**
**We kindly ask attendees to pay $5 to attend to help with MeetUp costs & venue costs. This is not mandatory, but if you are a regular member it would be appreciated. Any extra moneys will go towards buying food and drinks for the table. The venue also expects us to spend money as a group, so grateful if everyone could buy a drink from the venue.**
There is no pre-requisite preparation necessary, nor a philosophical background, all that is required is a curious mind. These discussions are both a Socrates Cafe style discussion and lively metaphysical dojo, in the spirit of learning and friendly debate, so please feel free to challenge assumptions and be prepared to have your own assumptions challenged.
Find below some questions to consider, however these are free-ranging events and the below serve as a springboard for the discussion:
**Why we work**
1\. If there was no economic necessity – would you still choose to work?
2\. Would you do similar work to what you currently do or something else?
3\. What is “work” as opposed to leisure or other activity?
4\. Is doing work essential to living a ‘Good Life’?
5\. Do you feel guilty when not working?
6\. Is becoming competent at a profession important for identity formation?
**Paradox of productivity**
7\. Why is it that no matter how much the economy is industrialised and automated\, there have always been enough new jobs created to keep unemployment low?
8\. In 1930\, the prominent economist John Maynard Keynes predicted that within 100 years technological improvements would result in a 15\-hour work week\. Why hasn’t this happened?
9\. We live in a society where much has been simplified to ‘a click of a button’\, yet why do we feel busier than ever?
10\. Has the removal of bottlenecks caused us to live at a more frenetic pace?
11\. Does difficulty and friction create meaning? Do resistance and constraint force us to slow down and better appreciate life?
**Work in my backyard**
12\. To what degree does work \(and associated competition\) function as a necessary ‘sorting mechanism’ for status and resources?
13\. Competition for many jobs – especially those that are prestigious \- is increasingly global\. Has it become harder for people who want a ‘normal’ job \(and the good life\)?
14\. How does the globalisation of work affect how we see the ‘relevant moral community’\, such as between Australia and developing nations?
15\. Is globalised work a trend towards greater justice or injustice?
**Augmented Indolence?**
16\. While the advent of every technology introduced thus far has not reduced human labour in aggregate\, with AI will it finally be different this time?
17\. If AI replaces numerous types of jobs wholesale\, what new work may be created \(or greatly expanded\) for humans to do?
18\. If aggregate human labour was drastically reduced\, is it more likely that people will feel liberated from economic necessity\, or beset by a crisis of meaning?
19\. What is worse – a life of constant work\, or no work at all?
Hope to see you there!

SRE VS Platform: Who Owns What
**Important notice - Please use this link to register for the meetup**
**https://luma.com/w01uummz**
**Site Reliability Engineers vs Platform Engineers: Who Owns What?**
Join us for a dynamic panel discussion exploring the evolving landscape of infrastructure and operations roles in modern tech organizations.
As companies scale and technology stacks grow more complex, the lines between Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and Platform Engineering can blur, overlap, or diverge entirely depending on organisational needs. This session brings together practitioners from both disciplines to unpack the core responsibilities, shared territories, and distinct ownership areas of each role.
But here's where it gets interesting: ownership boundaries vary dramatically across organizations. At some companies, SREs build the platform. At others, Platform Engineers handle production reliability. Many teams share responsibilities for Kubernetes, observability tools, infrastructure as code, and deployment automation. Company size, maturity, culture, and technical stack all influence how these roles are defined and what each team owns.
Our panelists will discuss real-world examples of how their organizations have drawn these boundaries, where collaboration is essential, where conflicts arise, and how to think about structuring these teams for success in your own context.
Whether you're an SRE, Platform Engineer, engineering leader, or simply curious about these evolving disciplines, you'll leave with clarity on the distinctions, insights on common patterns, and practical perspectives on making these roles work together effectively.

Humanist Program: Fighting the Efforts to Insert Religion into Public Education
The Humanist Monthly Program is our longest running event and still a community favorite. In the old days it used to be called "Going to HCCO" and we still like to think of it as our flagship event.
Food and drinks will be provided at the event. Feel free to show up a little bit early to hang out and talk.
Our March speakers are Molly Gaines and Zack Parrish, co-organizers of the Secular Education Association:
They will share their story of how a small group of Ohio parents grew into a national organization tracking released-time religious instruction and other church–state issues in public schools. The presentation will cover SEA’s early wins and hard lessons, what we’re seeing nationally right now, and how local advocates can play a meaningful role in protecting public education. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the landscape — and practical ways to get involved.
Going forward our meetings will be hybrid. You can meet us in-person or attend online

Free In-Person Meeting: Healing from Trauma and Past Betrayals
This is a free, in person meeting.
Burdened by a stressful relationship? Unhealthy relationships can trigger feelings of anger, despair or self-doubt. They can create dwindling spirals of fights and seeking to make-up, or trying to “pin the blame” on someone or something. If you don’t find the RIGHT reasons, or select the correct sources of the problem, the problem can just get worse and worse.
Whether in love or personal ties, with friends or at work, our life really IS affected by the quality of our relationships. Good ones can promote pleasure and survival while less optimum ones can lead to annoyance, anger, self-doubt, stress, or even affect our health and ability to survive well.
Whether you are suffering from a divorce, or a painful break-up, don’t know who to trust (or who to CHOOSE) as a partner, friend, boss or employee - the anxiety of relationship troubles can really make a mess of things. Maybe you’ve suffered a betrayal, or are dealing with hostility or criticalness or invalidation. Dwindling relationships can involve destructive behavior, where we hurt those we love, or start succumbing to self-destructive thoughts, attitudes or behaviors that spiral out of control and affect much more than our immediate relationship.
Past losses in love or life can affect how we act or react to new people and situations and hold us back from even starting to create new, possibly great relationships! How can one get back onto a saner course of action?
Come to our Meetup, where we can introduce you to some of the knowledge, tools and techniques of the breakthroughs in the field of the mind that we can apply to this ever important area of life: human relationships!
Break free from self imposed limitations
Here we will discuss:
• How to “erase” the trauma of past hurts and betrayals so that one isn’t always repeating past mistakes.
• Why and how do the negative emotions of others affect you?
• Why is my partner withdrawing and what can I do about it?
• Why do we sometimes feel compelled to hurt the ones we love?
• Fights & arguments - what's really behind them?
• What underlies “corrosive criticism” or the need to invalidate self or others?
• How one can stably change one’s outlook on life so they can affect positive change?
• Where do compulsive destructive behaviors come from and what can be done about them?
• How to form closer bonds & keep growing the relationships with the people you care about?
• How to enhance one’s own ability to survive and create positive healthy relationships whether in love, family & friendships or in work, business or one’s career?
Relationships can be hard and life itself IS challenging. Why not arm yourself with the knowledge and breakthroughs that have been made about the mind, mental reactions & interpersonal relationships, so that one has better awareness and control over themselves and life in general.
Learn where painful experiences are “stored” and how they can unknowingly affect us. You will also find out how one can “erase” those past painful experiences so that one is free to move forward without being tripped up by the past. Learn too, about what can lead some people to become “toxic” personalities and how to identify those traits in others so you won’t be tripped up trusting the wrong person.
Our free Meet-ups occur in a safe environment where one can learn, without fear of judgment or criticism, and without the recommendation of harmful mental techniques or therapies, just how YOU can get yourself onto a happier & more successful path: in love & in life.
We look forward to having you join us!
This class is sponsored by the Dianetics & Scientology Life Improvement Center of Central Ohio.
