We’ll work with natural light first and then move into controlled artificial light, allowing you to experience how different light sources shape mood, contrast, and meaning. This workshop is focused on light — how to recognise it, shape it, and use it intentionally. In the first part, we’ll work with natural light, contrast, direction, and colour, and how these elements influence mood and meaning in a photograph. The second half will be dedicated to working with artificial light, as that helps even further to understand how to work with light. During the workshop I keep the focus on perception: learning to notice light before you lift the camera, and understanding how composition supports it. You’ll learn how to simplify scenes, work with shadows, and make conscious choices rather than reacting to what’s in front of you. The workshop is crucial as even professionals often do not use light to the full potential and I’ve seen many times when people working as photographers are forgetting about the most fundamental and complex part of it – light!
