Hot Music for Cold Weather - Blue Book Value Band at JV's in Falls Church
Hot Music for Cold Weather - Blue Book Value Band at JV's in Falls Church
It's going to be stupid cold & windy on Saturday afternoon & evening. So warm up by dancing and singing along with the **Blue Book Value Band** (https://bluebookvalueband.com/) at world famous **JV's Restaurant** in Falls Church (www.jvsrestaurant.com). JV's usually has a $5 to $10 cover charge for bands. I'm not sure what it will be this Saturday. I'll update if I get more info. Blue Book Value have been playing in the Washington, DC metro area since 1996. In addition to rhythm &blues and swing, they play a bit of rock n' roll, as well as popular songs making them a hugely versatile band. Their set list ranges from Ray Charles, Etta James, Otis Redding & Aretha Franklin to Pink, Alanis Morrisette, The B52s & Lynyrd Skynyrd. JV's Restaurant has been serving up drinks, food, and live music since 1947. It has been voted Washington DC area's best dive bar and for darn good reason. There food is good, drinks are cold, the stage hosts live bands seven days a week, and the dance floor is always full.

White Oak Canyon - Cedar Run loop - Frozen waterfalls (Rating: A+)
White Oak Canyon - Cedar Run loop - Frozen waterfalls (Rating: A+)
You must read the following NVHC Sign-in Sheet Statement/Liability Disclaimer, [https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf](https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf) and then answer the question that you will see when you RSVP with "I accept" to be permitted on the hike. **This hike is rated A+ due to the possibility of ice and/or significant snow along the trail route.** Under normal conditions, this would be an A hike that just misses being a B hike. Join me for a 8-mile loop hike in SNP to see the frozen waterfalls along White Oak Canyon and Cedar Run before the weather warms up and the effect is lost. We will start from the Lower White Oak Canyon parking lot and head up the White Oak Canyon Trail to Upper White Oak Falls. Then we will follow the White Oak Fire Road and the Skyland - Big Meadows Horse Trail to Cedar Run Trail, and take Cedar Run Trail back to the cars. **Traction gear required.** Snowshoes advised. There may be significant snow and ice on the trails. What is highly likely is icy trails due to the snow being compacted by previous hikers. As this hike is expected to be in below-freezing conditions, please dress in layers and avoid cotton. Ensure that you have proper footwear and insulation for your hands and feet. Also please bring along hand and foot warmers in case added heat is needed for those extremities. **NOTICE: This may become as out-and-back hike on White Oak Canyon Trail.** Mary H. reports in the comments that Cedar Run Trail is currently impassible. We will venture up White Oak Canyon Trail as far as we can, prepared to turn around when conditions become overly treacherous. Unless conditions improve markedly, we will not do the full loop as planned. Meet at 7:30 at Centreville Park and Ride or at 9:15 am at the trailhead. Carpooling advised as I am not sure of what to expect at the parking area. I will be vetting people for this hike. Everyone will start off on the waitlist. I will take you off of it as I vet you. Please message me if you have not hiked with me previously or if you have any concerns about this hike. Also please be sure that I can message you if I have questions about your ability. I will move anyone I cannot message to "not going" due the inability to vet them. I also will move anyone who does not respond in a timely manner (meaning within a day or two) to "not going". I am looking for hikers with A+ hiking experience and winter hiking experience. This promises to be a spectacular hike, but it is one that you need to be well-prepared for. Bring lunch, snack, water (in a thermos or a camelback kept under your coat), an extra layer, and had/foot warmers. Realize that we may be warm going uphill but cooler coming downhill. Do not skimp on the water: 2 quarts are advised, just in case. Basics: * Distance: 8 miles * Elevation Gain: 2400' * Rating: A+ (due to added exertion caused by winter conditions). * Meetup Location: Centreville Park & Ride. (GPS Coordinates: 38.835789, -77.455532) * Centreville Meetup time 7:30 am * Traihead location: Lower White Oak Canyon parking lot. (GPS Coordinates: 38.539699, -78.349080) * Trailhead Meetup time: 9:15 am. * Hike start time: 9:30 am. * **Dogs not allowed** due to the expected adverse conditions. * Entry fee: Free due to the time of year. * Carpool fee: $8 suggested (riders pay drivers) Edward 703-850-3251

Trek Around Old Town, Alexandria, VA (ODH Training Hike #5)
Trek Around Old Town, Alexandria, VA (ODH Training Hike #5)
This is a substitute hike for the one originally scheduled for Indian Head Rail Trail on Saturday. The location was changed due to icy trail conditions at Indian Head and was rescheduled due to severe wind chills forecast for Saturday. The conditions for Sunday, Feb. 8 are better, though far from ideal. Winds will be from the northwest at about 15-25 miles per hour. The temperature will start out around 17 degrees Fahrenheit (about 2 degrees F wind chill) and gradually rise to about 22 degrees F (about 10 degrees F wind chill). Therefore, you must dress in multiple layers (avoiding pure cotton next to the skin), have winter head and ear coverings, and winter mittens or gloves. You’ll need to show these items to a leader before signing the waiver form and in order to participate. A winter scarf is also recommended to partially cover your face. The reason for layers is that the air between them provides extra insulation and you can remove some layers if needed to prevent overheating during exercise; the idea is to retain warmth with minimal sweating. Bring water and snacks as there will be no organized lunch stop. No pets please. We’ll meet at the Braddock Road Metro station by 10:00 AM Sunday. We urge you to take Metro rather than driving because finding a legal parking spot is difficult. We should meet in the vicinity of bus bay E just outside the Metro station. To simplify registration, we’re waiving collection of donations for this event. The route will be about 6 miles along city sidewalks and trails that have been sufficiently cleared of snow and ice, with very few exceptions. Two public restroom locations are available, one at about the 2.2-mile mark, and one at about the 4.9-mile mark, but there are a number of businesses along the way where you can use their restrooms if you buy something there. King Street Metro station is an optional bail-out point at 4.8 miles. The hike ends back at Braddock Road Metro. Paper handouts of the route will be available at the start, so please change your RSVP if you decide not to attend. Execution of a Sierra Club liability waiver is required at the start. You need not be a Sierra Club member to participate, but if you'd like to join, go to: [http://www.sierraclub.org/virginia](http://www.sierraclub.org/virginia) . Leaders: Gary Kosciusko, (703) 946-8111, and Vicky Hsu. Although open to all, this hike is part of a series of Saturday training hikes leading up to the [One Day Hike](https://www.meetup.com/sierrapotomac/events/304791832/) (ODH)—a 100 or 50 km hike along the C&O Canal—on May. 2, 2026. See SCPRO’s [Meetup page](https://www.meetup.com/sierrapotomac/) for other training hikes as they are posted. If you would like to support the ODH, see [volunteering opportunities](https://www.meetup.com/sierrapotomac/events/304792694/) and/or contact Mike Darzi ([mike.darzi@gmail.com](http://mike.darzi@gmail.com/)). It’s the most unique Real Estate Investor Community of Mentors, Coaches & Masterminds. A community of growth oriented, abundance mindset, go-giver individuals with a BARE MINIMUM commitment to become financially free through real estate investing. We focus on providing education and building networks to help every member solve their cash-flow freedom equation, so they can have the time-freedom needed to follow their passions, make a lasting impact and even change the world! The unique format of this event, which consists of high-level education, gamified networking, mastermind breakout sessions, case studies, group deal analysis, market deep dives, and peer-to-peer coaching facilitation makes this the most impactful local real estate investor group a real estate investor can be a part of. The foundation of the group is built around the belief that everyone in the room has the potential to change the world… however most of us never have the time, energy or financial situation to even dare to dream big enough. Most of us have passions that will never be followed, amazing businesses or ideas that will never be pursued… unless we can solve the Cash-Flow Freedom Equation, which ultimately leads to Time-Freedom. Once that happens it is usually much easier for us to think bigger, dream bigger, be bigger. · 🤯 Learn more about the Cash-Flow Breakfast Club [HERE](https://cashflowbreakfastclub.com/) · 🥇 Get in the VIP List to be notified about the next event in your area [HERE](https://the.cashflowbreakfastclub.com/VIP) · 🤙🏼 Learn more about Launching your own Cash-Flow Breakfast Club Location [HERE](https://cashflowbreakfastclub.com/launch-your-own-club/) · 🤝🏼 Learn more about becoming an Affiliate-Sponsor at one of our club locations [HERE](https://cashflowbreakfastclub.com/affiliate-sponsors/) · 📷 View photos and videos of some of our recent events [HERE](https://cashflowbreakfastclub.com/about-the-cash-flow-breakfast-club/) · 😎 Looking to represent?
