Day trip by coach - Towns & Villages in North Essex! (NOW FULL)
THE TRIP IS NOW FULL, IF YOU WISH TO ATTEND, ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST AND I WILL CONTACT YOU IF A PLACE BECOMES AVAILABLE.
Come along on Saturday 6th June for a coach trip to some pretty towns and villages in North Essex.
We won't be able to do the Tiptree Jam Tour, as they only carry out tours on Wednesdays and Fridays.
**About the day**
Essex is a historical county due east of London. Its history back thousands of years and when the Roman's invaded in 43AD, they setup their capital in the north of the county called *'Camulodunum'* (now the city of Colchester). From the 5th century onwards, the Anglo Saxons settled here and the name Essex today translates as 'East Saxon'.
**St. Michael's Church, Copford**
St. Michael & All Angels Church in the village of Copford in a Norman church featuring rare, extensive wall paintings from the 1140's. The church inside is decorated with a variety of religious themed wall paintings, painted figures, the signs of the zodiac, complex decorations, inclduding flower, leaf patterns and scrollwork.
The wall paintings were white washed in the 1530's during Henry VIII's split from the Catholic Church and rediscovered during the 1870's.
**Coggeshall**
Described as a lovely little 'olde worlde' village, Coggeshall lies just south of Colchester on the River Blackwater and on the Roman road of Stane Street. It has over 300 listed buildings, with the earliest dating from the 14th century and has had a market since 1256. Bizarre and obscure events in the past have been attributed to ley lines crossing in the town.
**Braintree**
Braintree gets its name from the River Brain and also sits on the Roman road of Stane Street. From the 14th century onwards, the town was known for processing and manufacturing of woollen cloth and then in the 19th century for silk manufacturing. The wealth from cloth is reflected in the many medieval properties in the town.
**Great Bardfield**
Henry VIII is said to have given Bardfield to his fourth wife Anne of Cleves as part of his divorce settlement in 1540 and a number of buildings in the village are associated with Anne of Cleves. Bardfield was the home of many important twentieth-century English artists who hosted a series of important 'open house' exhibitions in the village during the 1950s. The village has 102 listed buildings and a windmill which dates from 1754.

Social Event:
Our walks are social walks, where the emphasis is on meeting new people, enjoying nature, healthy exercise, and fresh air. Our walks are not interrupted with running commentaries or historical lectures, although occasionally features of significance may be pointed out. As such our walks will be continuous with few stops and it is your responsibilty to keep walkers ahead in view and to follow the direction of the walk. We always end the walk at a pub where the socialising can continue.
Take this opportunity to visit green parts of London, unknown to most people, and that you would not otherwise have an opportunity to see.
RISKS:Please dress appropriately for weather conditions and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and be able to walk for four miles without a break. In these walks we use; pavements, cross busy roads, public parkland, towpaths alongside water, other public paths, and tracks through woodland and countryside. Please only wear good sturdy shoes, trousers are recommended, and take care as surfaces may be uneven, and some paths are also used by joggers and cyclists. Be wary of portruding tree roots and low overhanging branches. If you require insurance for these walks then you must arrange this yourself.
No large dogs or small children please.
Please arrive in good time to allow opportunity to use toilets at the start of the walk as there may not be any toilet breaks available during the walk.

Bermondsey Beer Mile | ADHD Social | London | Everyone Welcome
**Brews and Lose... Track of Time!** Bermondsey Beer Mile. Relaxed pace. Visit craft brewery tap rooms in ancient industrial London. It really is a lovely walk, lots of Victorian buildings, murals, art, etc.
As with all our events, you **do not** need an ADHD diagnosis. Come as you are, meet nice, quirky people.
We will attempt to visit several of the taprooms in a loosely sequential order. I strongly recommend having thirds or halves of a pint! Some of us will succeed.
To keep you in sustenance, there will be assorted food places along the route.
We start at [The Kernal Taproom,](https://share.google/c3sPrvF5jXxSsbwGJ) and finish up around London Bridge where... who knows what may happen next,
**What will definitely happen:**
- At least one person will show up to the wrong place
- Someone will spend forty minutes reading the entire tap list and order a basic bitch Fosters/Carling
- A conversation will begin, go completely off-piste, and never return to the original point
- Someone will announce they're leaving and still be there an hour later
- We will collectively lose track of time, money, and the thread of at least six conversations
**What will probably not happen:**
- Not everyone arriving on time
- Leaving when we said we would
- Remembering what the plan was
- But we will try.
**Directions:**
Meet at [The Kernal taproom ](https://share.google/c3sPrvF5jXxSsbwGJ) preferably at 12, before the rush.

Amberley to Worthing – South Downs backcountry paths & Cissbury Ring
**WHAT TO EXPECT - HIKING INFO**
Distance: **25km** (c. 15 miles)
Ascent: c. **585m**
Estimated Duration (approx): **7 hours walking (moderate pace 4km/hr)**
Difficulty: **Energetic**
**HIGHLIGHT**
· Great views from Amberley Mount and Rackman Hill
· Undulating paths over the downs heading south towards Worthing
· Slow ascents and descents on remote paths away from South Downs Way
· Visit the ancient and most historic hill fort in Sussex – The Cissbury Ring.
· Optional sea swim at the end!
**DESCRIPTION**
*This walk is on paths less travelled over South Downs rolling hills with fantastic views along the way. There is an optional sea swim at the end for those who want to cool off after a good day’s walk.*
This is a beautiful part of the south downs with fantastic views and rolling hills - and with some neolithic and bronze age history along our way.
We start our walk in Amberley as we head up our first hill onto the South Downs to Rackman Hill for fantastic views looking north towards the North Downs – hopefully we will have good views on the day.
We then head south over rolling hills and forlorn paths, meeting locals who know the less travelled parts of the south downs. I have chosen a route which meanders past other settlement hills and hopefully with views over to the sea. We pass Finden for a refreshment stop after 14km (no pub stops before then).
We then head over to Cissbury Ring – the oldest hill fort on the South Downs Way. It boasts much history - a neolithic flint mines, bronze age burial ground, iron age hill fort, a roman mint, a tudor vantage point before it was investigated archeologically by the Victorians. Then onto Worthing for a drink and a swim!
Option at this stage is to head back to London or go down to Worthing Pier and have a swim.
*ps. My walks make time to enjoy the views, take in local history, and look at interesting buildings along the way.*

M is for.... Marilyn: A Portrait @ National Portrait Gallery
*“It's all make-believe, isn't it?”* (Marilyn Monroe)
Join us at **Marilyn Monroe: A Portrait at the National Portrait Gallery** to explore the life, career and legacy of Marilyn Monroe through portraits created by some of the greatest photographers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Bringing together works by Andy Warhol, Pauline Boty, Marlene Dumas, James Gill, Rosalyn Drexler and Audrey Flack, alongside over 20 era-defining photographers, including Cecil Beaton, Philippe Halsman, Bernard of Hollywood, Sam Shaw, Richard Avedon and George Barris, the exhibition will foreground Monroe’s collaborative approach to image making and her creative agency.
The exhibition will also include personal belongings such as books, scripts and clothes to enrich understanding of the woman behind the image.
From the earliest ‘cheesecake’ pin-ups made when she was a young model named Norma-Jeane, to the most poignant final photographs taken on the beach in Santa Monica in 1962, Marilyn Monroe was one of the most photographed people in the world. A defining presence in popular culture, she captivated audiences with performances in much loved films such as *Some Like it Hot*.
