A lunch time visit to Mount Vernon
12:30 today (TUESDAY) at George Washington's Mount Vernon: on-leash walk with Tia's Apollo et. al. Meet front entrance or (best bet) 12-Acre Field. Or ask staff if they've seen a big, fluffy dog & find us. If coming, please PM Tia and/or RSVP at [Meetup](https://www.facebook.com/groups/916975895009304/user/100064559029084/?__cft__%5B0%5D=AZbSS3h0JaLCHdbBuEXIOac23sgCs9PQ7JQIuIxPR7jXaH2pfRm4E56Z7a0CW-jKU9PdPkp7x4S9noZZyFWUARlZQnZlrzu7Wi0ViFU-upa9S4-p5HvTRDBAZAzInnwVKbEMFrc-1cJExcdGy4VV62KeTQGu4-8OAHEQIxcpLtltUULOoqWUEO0zq7wmFlGyqMUH8oB_7QAq8C0SSudxjdtw&__tn__=-%5DK-R) once posted.
Dates scheduled: Jan 6, 13, 20, and 27 plus Feb 3.
Humans pay. Dogs free. Adult day tickets $28; annual pass $69. If you like, come for a "dry run" sans dog to preview entrance/exit. Tia sometimes has an extra guest pass (PM to ask).
Dogs MUST remain on leash. Not a formal tour. We go where allowed. Walk at your own pace or with the group. We might visit river, farm, forest, and outbuildings. Staff and historians love the dogs and are always eager to answer questions or share information about George Washington and life at Mount Vernon.
IMPORTANT: Apollo is making good progress on reactivity to unknown dogs & staying calm near livestock, but enjoys pack walks. We appreciate \*SPACE\* but do well once acquainted with new dog friends. If your dog is similar, we'll get it, and give you space, too.
Apollo is a low-key, tri-color English Shepherd, long and lanky, like a stretched-out Aussie (the breeds are close cousins from historic UK herding roots). I'm a white lady who will probably have pink hair and a purple coat or jacket. If we know you're coming, I can tell Apollo your names and life will go more smoothly for us.

The Let Go: 5Rhythms Friday Night
To purchase tickets - https://www.annkite.com/friday-nights
This is a group of 60-75 people that dance the together weekly on Friday evenings.
Ann is a master teacher who has taught embodied movement as connection to spirit for over 18 years. She is fully trained in 5Rhythms (both waves and heartbeat levels), attended the teacher training for Soul Motion and has a Masters in Education. A born teacher. Her classes offer a dynamic movement practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. Movement is both the medicine and the metaphor, reaching across all languages, cultures and age groups to transform suffering into art, art into awareness, and awareness into action. Ann has held this group, a dynamic community has been created to dance, to sweat, to change, to support, and to provide a safe space for each of us to shatter the egoโs hold and awaken the juicy, unpredictable, fascinating, edge-walking, rock star part of ourselves that yearns to be free.
Creativity. Connection. Community.
There are no steps to learn. 5Rhythms can be practiced by anyone regardless of age, fitness, ability, or experience. For more information about what to expect in your first 5Rhythms class, see our About 5Rhythms page: https://www.annkite.com/about
Splashin' Around at Jones Point Park
Looks like a 50:50 chance of showers on Saturday, with about a tenth of an inch of rainfall expected. But a high temperature of 62F? Break out the jams! Let's go for a walk around Old Town and see what's going on.
โถ **What we'll do:**
* From the old ship's rudder under Wilson Bridge we'll walk south to the Jones Point Lighthouse, then east and north along the Mount Vernon Trail and the Alexandria waterfront to the Torpedo Factory, with a short jag to the west to walk through Wilkes Street Tunnel. After a short break at the Torpedo Factory (if needed) we will continue upstream along the Potomac to Orocono St, walk west to St Asaph St, and then make our way south back to our starting point in Jones Point Park.
* This is a 4-mile loop hike and should take no more than two hours at a moderate pace. The surface is fairly level and paved throughout, except for brief stretches of pebbled paths in parks along the way.
* Google map: [https://tinyurl.com/fdes83n9](https://tinyurl.com/fdes83n9)
โท **How to get there:** The park entrance is at the south end of South Royal Street in Old Town Alexandria. From Highway 1 (either direction), take Franklin Street east to Royal Street, turn right and drive south 3 blocks until the street ends in front of Wilson Bridge. The park entrance is on your left.
โธ **What to bring:** Water, comfy shoes, and your furry friend if desired (leashes please). An umbrella or rain jacket/poncho is recommended.
โน **Weather:** The forecast is mostly cloudy and a high of 62F, with a 50% chance of showers during our walk. WSW winds at 11 mph. Updates: [https://tinyurl.com/yck2442z](https://tinyurl.com/yck2442z)
**โบ Advisory:** As a reminder, this is an adult group, and you are ultimately responsible for your own safety and well-being during events. No one under 18 years of age is allowed at this event, either as members or as guests, to include babies in carriers and/or strollers.

Energizing Walk for Busy People!
Join our weekly walking meetup to have fun, maintain a healthy lifestyle, meet new people, and enjoy the weather! We meet Saturdays at 10am, halfway between the Reston *Container Store* and *Not Your Average Joes* (by the metal benches), leaving no later than 10:05.
Every week, rain or shine, we start by walking along the Green Trail to reach Lake Anne Community Center. Once there, we pause for water/bio (often staying a few minutes extra from April-November, due to the local Farmer's Market), and then we circle Lake Anne and head back to our starting point. It's roughly 3-4 miles and takes about an hour and a half.
Afterwards, some members will often head to *Not Your Average Joes* or another local restaurant for a quick drink/meal before tackling the day.
This event is open to all ages and fitness levels. Dogs are welcome, and we recommend dressing for the weather (umbrella, water, snow shoes, hat, etc.) since we'll walk rain or shine. Also, feel free to bring a friend!
By signing up, you accept and assume all risks and responsibilities with this activity, and nobody will be held liable.
Mini Relief Two-Part Class
Mini Relief Two-Part Class
Tuesdays from 7PM to 9:30PM
Session 1: Jan 6 & 20 \| Session 2: Jan 13 & 27
Session 1 serves as an introduction to relief through the easy cut method with a rubber stamp medium block. Participants will practice hand printing on Japanese paper through multiple iterations, and then proceed to mount their images. Completing these exercises will demonstrate how different blocks can be used interchangeably in a modular format, which will prepare them for creating a small book. All materials will be provided as part of the registration fee.
Session 2 will involve collaboration among participants to create an accordion-style book utilizing blocks made in session one. There will be an opportunity to refine blocks and make artistic choices as a group to determine how the different compositions can be incorporated into a completed piece. Additionally, new printing techniques like rainbow rolls will be introduced to provide variety. All materials will be provided as part of the registration fee, and participants are encouraged to bring their materials from session one.
Sunday Boardgaming @ Panera

Good for all skill levels, shower-singers to seasoned pros, no sheet-music-reading required.

We usually meet on the second Sunday of the month, and will continue to meet in-person as long as it makes sense. We encourage and provide masks.
We will also plan on continuing our Zoom circles from time to time. So please check the day before/day of the meetup each month to confirm date & details.
This world needs more song; join in the fun, and be the music you want to hear in the world.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started โ but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome โ please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. ๐ค ๐
**IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...**
[The Board](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board) is the next step: a high-trust collective for renaissance people devoted to creating, connecting, and building lives that light us up.
* This is a global HQ for people who crave big talk, deep connection, and dream collaborations with people across industries. If the walks feel like a spark... The Board is the fire. Apply [here](https://stan.store/ellebeecher/p/the-board).
