Dupont Circle First Friday Art Walk Shows and Receptions
Let's take advantage of the great weather predicted for Friday evening and take a walk around Dupont Circle for the traditional First Friday Art Walk. (This is ArtHouse's walk led by me.)
We'll start at Washington Studio School (WSS) for the exhibition opening of ***Gleaners***, a collaboratively curated exhibition brings together 15 artists from the **Otis Street Arts Project** in Mount Rainier, Maryland.
We'll also head to Hillyer in the alley behind the Phillips for Absence of Us, an interdisciplinary, long-term project that transforms used garments into narratives of memory, identity, and resilience by Esha Sadr. Other highlights include Studio Gallery for its upstairs/downstairs shows and the the new Vika Gallery for the closing of Vian Borchert's beautiful show (pictured top).
We'll see after that what we have time for and where we head. Will give a couple dinner options for those interested after. Not sure of the exact order yet after WSS so will update Friday. Join any time.
Hardware Hacking Night
Want to mess with some electronics? Or perhaps contribute to HacDC's main group project?
HacDC's latest event brings hardware projects to the community. We will focus primarily on the main project (Space Blimp!) but please feel free to bring some of your own projects to show off and work on!
***GRAB A DRINK AND YOU WILL BE ALL SET TO FLEX YOUR LANGUAGE CAPACITY. YOU NEED TO GET AT LEAST A DRINK OR FOOD :) To get the event going and show support. We know that you like our events. P.S. : We have non-alcoholic drinks as well.***
We have a tiny venue and we hit capacity often and early arrival is suggested.
We have the discretion to decide entry.
It is irresistible, to enjoy French convo with a glass of wine, appetizers and drinks. The Event is open to all levels of French language, from intermediate to native fluency.
This is mainly a social for Intermediate/Advanced/Native Speakers. It is not as such to learn a language. Beginners, if you want to learn a language, reach out to us (info@merevents.com). We have a school and will arrange you a class.
***AFTER THE HAPPY HOUR, WE HIT THE DANCE FLOOR! BRING YOUR DANCING SHOES, WE WILL DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY!***
Remove the most fundamental barrier towards happiness and goals.
*This is another completely different event than ones we've previously held, covering a unique angle on the subject of communication.*
Is "talking" the same as "effectively communicating"? Do you have a problem getting your ideas across to others? Does nervousness about talking get the better of you?
Maybe you consider that it is who you are by nature. But if it was something natural, wouldn't you be happy and content with it? Maybe there is more to effectively communicating than just your personality.
This live, in-person workshop explores the subject of communication and precise actions one can take to improve their communication... without changing their personality or being someone they are not.
**Youâll likely relate if:**
* You replay conversations later and think, *âThatâs not what I meant.â*
* You hesitate or overthink when itâs time to speak up.
* Conversations drift into tension even when everyone has good intentions.
* You want to connect betterâbut donât want scripts or fake confidence.
Itâs a **guided, interactive workshop** where youâll:
* Learn why conversations break down in the first place
* The most common problem people have in any struggle to have a conversation. It's not what you may think!
* Practice being more present and composed in real time
* Leave feeling more comfortable in conversationsâwithout forcing anything
Most people notice a difference **during the session itself**, not weeks later.
**Who this is especially good for**
* Thoughtful, introspective, or introverted people
* Professionals who want clearer communication at work
* Anyone navigating relationships, boundaries, or confidence
* People tired of tips that donât translate into real life
You donât need to be outgoing.
You donât need experience.
You just need curiosity.
This will be held in a group setting with light refreshments served. The location will be easy access for metro and bus stops. There is street parking available as well as a parking garage next to the building.

North to South Boundary Stone Walk (Silver Spring -> King St, 25mi)
Are you familiar with DC's boundary stones? 36 of these were placed in 1791 by the order of George Washington to mark the border of the soon to be incorporated Washington DC. They are the oldest federally placed monuments in the US and serve as both a reminder of our city's history and a fun scavenger hunt to try and find them. Join us as we attempt to walk from the northern boundary stone, near Silver Spring, through the entirety of DC (and parts of Arlington/Alexandria) to the southern boundary stone (at the southern tip of old town).
We did this walk last year and it was really fun. To mix things up we are going to switch the route. My goal for this walk is to cross dc while following only the mainline rail tracks. This gives us a pretty good route of being on trails for a large part of the walk and a good verity of neighborhoods.
This is a very long walk. Last year i clocked 24 miles and i suspect this route is slightly longer. Please be prepared to walk for over 8 hours. To save on time we will be eating a picnic lunch on the mall (roughly half way point). Please bring with you a bag with water, lunch, snacks, anything else you need for an 8+ hour walk.

End Location: King Street Metro Station

We try to be punctual with our event times so please be respectful to others and show up a few minutes early. Note, we often limit the RSVPs to keep group sizes manageable. If you are on the waitlist but would really like to join, reach out to the organizer.
Our events prioritize metro accessibility by meeting and ending at metro stations. Sometimes we start/stop at the same station, sometimes we do not. Please double check the event description to see if you can manage transportation.
If you've enjoyed our walks please consider donating a few bucks to help us keep this group running (meetup is expensive!). [Donation Link](https://venmo.com/code?user_id=2158403661070336114)

This hidden gem is densely populated by numerous species of wildlife, high-quality forest and features spectacular rock and massive boulder outcropping throughout the park. This area remains undeveloped for some of the best hiking trails around! The Hawlings River passes through the park and almost the entire hike is along this beautiful river. Rachel Carson offers 650 acres of undisturbed wooded parkland and trails surrounding the Hawlings River in upper Montgomery County. Amenities: This is a "conservation park," which means there are no bathrooms and no water available. The trail is not well marked in some areas, downloading the map ahead of time is helpful for navigating.

Sunday Skate - Anacostia Trail to Bladensburg
As a reminder, Freedom Plaza is currently closed for construction, so we are shifting the starting line. We will meet at the corner of E St and 14th Street NW, right outside the WWI Pershing Memorial, across from the Willard Hotel.
We'll take Pennsylvania Ave to the Capitol then move up to D Street. We'll take D Street al the way until the RFK Grounds/Fields. From there, we'll cross the Whitney Young Bridge and then take Anacostia Avenue up to Benning Road. Then, we'll get on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail all the way up to Bladensburg Waterfront Park where we'll take a little break. After that, we'll go back the way we came, but continue on the Riverwalk Trail all the way to the Frederick Douglass Bridge. After we cross the bridge, we'll then cut around Audi Field using R Street SW, 2nd Street SW, and P Street SW. From there, we'll continue onto 4th Street and take that until we get to the Eisenhower Memorial. Then, we'll take Independence Avenue to the 12th Street tunnel. Sunny Tenleytown, National Cathedral, & Glover Archbold Trail
Saturday is forecast to be 78 degrees and sunny. We did this hike last month but skipped the park because the trail was covered by ice & snow. No such problem this time. We will meet at noon by the Tenleytown metro station and walk down Nebraska to Foxhall Road and back up the Glover Archbold Trail. We will stop at the National Cathedral and then wend our way back to Tenleytown.
The starting point for the hike is a hop and a skip from a Whole Foods store with the best peanut butter cookies in the D.C. area.
ⶠ**What we'll do:**
* From the meetup point we'll walk southeast along Wisconsin Ave NW, turn left at Nebraska Ave NW and follow it southwest to Foxhall Rd NW,
* We will hook a left on Garfield Ave. and follow to the Glover-Archbold Trail through the woods back to Cathedral Ave. We will cross Wisconsin Ave and stop at the National Cathedral. We will then wend back to Tenleytown via 36th St., 37th St., and Van Ness.
* Total distance is around 5 miles and should take about 2 hours, . The surface is paved and slightly downhill on the way out, and a slightly uphill mix of pavement and woodland trails on the way back. This is a fairly easy walk.
* [map is for prior version of the hike; update pending] Google map: http://tinyurl.com/y9bthc7a
â· **How to get there:**
* Metro (recommended): The Tenleytown - AU Metro Station is on the Red Line. See the Metro Trip Planner at https://www.wmata.com/

Let's revisit one of my favorite places for Spanish Tapas / small plates. Weâre headed to **Boqueria Penn Quarter** in **DC** (Penn Quarter / Chinatown)
**FOOD**: Boqueria serves Spanish tapas style food meant for sharing. Menu favorites in late 2025 and early 2026 include pan con tomate, patatas bravas, jamon serrano and cheese boards, Albondigas meatballs, blistered Pimientos de PadrĂłn, and croquetas including jamĂłn and mushroom varieties. The seafood paella and grilled octopus are dishes that many guests highlight. Dessert churros are a popular way to finish the meal. Guests also praise the red sangria and cocktails. Most members spend between 40 and 70 dollars for dinner and drinks.

Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
***Okay, call me crazy but you have got to try their chip n dip!*** Club 85 is a true hidden gem in German Village! Seriously, old school, good comfort food and drink. We will try to gather in spaces near the windows. While we'll share Chip n Dip, you'll want to order a sandwich, too.
**Where the Chip Began (1817)**
Potato chips can be traced back to an English chef, William Kitchiner, who includes âcrispsâ in his bestselling cookbook, âThe Cookâs Oracle.â
**Chip and Dip Popularity**
The popularity of chip and dip skyrockets at the end of World War II with new entertainment fads and the introduction of Liptonâs new advertising campaign for their famous French Onion Dip. (Club 185 doesn't openly admit it, but I'm pretty sure that's their dip recipe!)
**[Club 185](http://club185.com/)**âa true neighborhood bar serving since 1954, when it was known as a local 'speak-easy'. Located in German Village, Club 185 features a menu of quality casual comfort food and full bar. From politicians to lawyers, hardhats to hipstersâall find Club 185 the perfect place to tame their hunger and quench their thirst!
**PARKING**: I know, brick street parallel parking can be a pain. Two other choices, metered parking along Livingston heading towards Children's Hospital or across the street in the large church lot (park in spaces farthest away from the church entrance doors, closer to the street).
**PRE-EVENT**: **HAPPY HOUR (3-5pm)**: Italian drinks and bites at [Cento's happy hour](https://centogermanvillage.com/menus/), nearby.
