Masterclass Voice Training with Iwan Dam
#### Level: Everyone welcome
\*\*Voice Training for Improvisers\*\*
Discover the power and possibilities of your voice.
In this masterclass, we dive into the fundamentals of healthy and expressive voice use — essential for every improviser. You’ll learn how your voice works, how to use it effectively in scenes, and how to gain more freedom and control in both spoken text and singing.
We will explore:
\* how to warm up your voice effectively
\* how to sing in tune (and why you sometimes think you’re singing off-key)
\* how to play with volume, tone color, and dynamics
\* how to use your voice to carry, color, or surprise within a scene
This training is practical, playful, and immediately applicable on the improv floor. You’ll go home with concrete tools, greater confidence, and a voice ready for any improvisation challenge.
Review
“My other improv group, with 20 to 30 years of experience, were moved to tears by what Iwan achieved in his lessons. Two members who had always been told they could not sing and should not use their voice were suddenly singing freely and effortlessly. Iwan opens up new possibilities of how to use music and voice.”

Improvised Musical Theatre Course with Iwan Dam
#### Level: Everyone welcome
Musical theatre is improvisational theatre where music and sound take the lead. This does not mean you have to sing or perform improvised songs, although that can happen. Instead, musicality in its broadest sense becomes the starting point for scenes. Sound, rhythm, tempo, and tone guide what unfolds on stage.
In this course, music is not decoration or background. It becomes an active scene partner. A rhythm can create a character, a sound can set a mood, and a musical impulse can shape the entire direction of a scene.
The module is inspired by the work of companies and makers such as Orkater, Monty Python, Het Amsterdams Bostheater, and the Ashton Brothers, where musicality, playfulness, and theatrical imagination meet.
#### What will we do
Throughout the course, you will explore how sound and music can drive improvisation in different ways. Sometimes a scene will emerge purely from a sound, rhythm, or musical texture. At other times, music will support and deepen an existing scene, strengthening emotion, atmosphere, and timing.
You will experiment with how musical choices influence pace, tension, and emotional impact. By treating sound as a creative force rather than an extra layer, you will learn how music can provide structure and momentum, even in scenes without words.
#### Who is this course for
This course is open to everyone. You do not need to be a musician, play an instrument, or feel confident about singing. Curiosity and a willingness to experiment are far more important than musical skill.
The course is built on the belief that everyone has enough musicality to create meaningful and powerful improvised scenes. To make sure the group feels safe and comfortable, there may be a short intake beforehand. This is not about judging musical ability, but about checking whether you feel excited to explore sound, voice, and music in a playful way.
#### What will we work on
During the course, we will focus on four core elements.
1. Voice use
* Exploring the musical possibilities of the voice, from raw sounds and textures to rhythm and melody.
2. Making music
* Creating music with simple tools and everyday objects, learning how even the most unexpected sounds can strengthen a scene.
3. Scenes born from music
* Discovering how music itself can generate characters, relationships, and structure without starting from text or narrative.
4. Music supporting scenes
* Using music to enhance emotion, atmosphere, tension, and transitions within scenes.
#### Why take this module
This course invites you to experience improvisation from a completely different angle. By starting from sound and feeling instead of words and ideas, you open up new creative pathways and deepen your connection to instinct, timing, and emotion. Many participants find this approach both liberating and surprisingly moving.

🏔️🦣 From Loenermark to Posbank Power Hike (22 km) 🍻🍟
We’re heading into the south eastern Veluwe for a stunning scenic route that stays wonderfully quiet and almost deserted for a big part of the way, before building up to a truly spectacular grand finale!
After around 6 km we reach the mysterious “Altar of the Loenermark” (Altaar van de Loenermark). I have no idea what it is, so we’ll discover it together. From there we continue through the beautiful heather and forest landscapes of Loenermark, one of those places where the Veluwe feels wide, wild, and open.
Next we pass one of the quirkiest monuments in the Netherlands: the Ijkbasis Loenermark 1957–2007, a tribute to the calibration of measurement instruments from the past. The calibration itself might not sound exciting, but the location absolutely is, right in the middle of wide open heather, with big skies and that endless Veluwe feeling. It also marks about 11 km into the hike, a perfect spot to take our lunch break.
After lunch we walk straight through the iconic National Park Veluwezoom, famous for its rolling grasslands and its fluffy semi wild cows. To finish in style, we end at Paviljoen De Posbank for a well earned snack or drink with a view over what many call the most spectacular heather of the Netherlands, complete with rolling hills.
From there we head down towards Rheden, where you can easily catch the train or bus home. This is not a loop hike!
**📍When and where to meet?**
We’ll meet at 10h at busstop Loenen, Leeuwenbergweg.
https://maps.app.goo.gl/LC3nNJQo57B5NnSy8
We are leaving a bit earlier otherwise we will find Paviljoen Posbank closed, which would be very sad.
⏰ We **start walking a few minutes after meeting up** — we don’t wait for latecomers, as the forest calls and daylight is short this time of year.
**🚗 Coming by car?**
This is not a loop hike. If you park in Loenen, you’ll need to make your own way back from Rheden afterwards.
**⏸️ Planned Breaks**
After **11 km**: Lunch break at **Ijkbasis Loenermark** (bring your packed lunch, this spot is truly in the middle of nowhere) **20 min**
[https://maps.app.goo.gl/S5vAEpadAJs93ZrC7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/S5vAEpadAJs93ZrC7)
After **19 km**: Snack or drink at **Paviljoen De Posbank**
[https://maps.app.goo.gl/wowuqj3sRY5hcid37](https://maps.app.goo.gl/wowuqj3sRY5hcid37)
**💸 Payment**
Please pay as soon as you sign up: To keep things fair for everyone, if we don’t receive your payment within 48 hours, we will need to remove you from the participant list. If there’s a waiting list, this will happen sooner (in less than 48 hours). If that happens, no worries — you’re always welcome to sign up again if there’s space.
🌟 Early Bird Deal! Join now for just €4 — available for 3 days (72h). After that, the price will be €5.

One for the Ages: Columbus Museum of Art / Gemüt Biergarten
**History**
The Columbus Museum of Art traces its roots to 1878, when it was founded as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, becoming the first art museum chartered in Ohio. A group of civic leaders established it to bring touring exhibitions and build a public collection. In 1887, it merged with the Columbus Art School (now CCAD) fostering a long partnership in arts education. Initially without a permanent home, the museum operated from temporary spaces until 1919, when art patron Francis C. Sessions deeded his Victorian mansion on East Broad Street to house the growing institution.
As collections expanded in the early 20th century, the need for a dedicated building became clear. The Sessions mansion was demolished, and a new Italian Renaissance Revival structure was erected on the same site, opening to the public in 1931. This elegant building, with its grand steps and arches, remains the museum's core today and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992. Key early acquisitions, like the Ferdinand Howald Collection of modernist works, helped establish its focus on American and European art.
In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the museum evolved significantly. It added the Ross Wing in 1974 for exhibitions and renamed itself the Columbus Museum of Art in 1978 during its centennial. A major renovation and expansion completed in 2015 introduced the Margaret M. Walter Wing and Center for Creativity, emphasizing interactive experiences. In 2018, the donation of the Pizzuti Collection and its Short North building expanded the museum's reach into contemporary art, solidifying its role as a dynamic cultural hub.
The Columbus Museum of Art boasts a strong collection of late 19th- and early 20th-century European modern art, featuring well-known masters like Claude Monet, whose Impressionist landscapes capture light and atmosphere in ways familiar to many. Visitors can also encounter works by Henri Matisse, renowned for his bold use of color, and Edgar Degas, famous for his graceful depictions of ballerinas and everyday scenes. The museum's early Cubist holdings include pieces by Pablo Picasso, offering glimpses into his revolutionary fragmented style that reshaped modern art.
On the American side, the collection highlights iconic figures such as Edward Hopper, whose evocative paintings of urban solitude and quiet American life are widely recognized, and Norman Rockwell, celebrated for his heartfelt illustrations of everyday Americana that have appeared on countless magazine covers. These accessible works by household-name artists provide an inviting entry point for those new to art museums, blending European innovation with distinctly American storytelling.
**Summary**
For this event, we will tour the [Columbus Museum of Art](https://www.columbusmuseum.org/), which is always free on Sundays. Afterward, we will head over to the nearby, highly-rated, and popular Gemüt Biergarten for drinks and food.
Columbus's art museum is not large, and we won't need to rush through in order to see everything. However, it's a little windy (with a long "i") and maze-like in spots, and if you've never gone through it before, it can be a little confusing at first.
**Tickets and Pricing**
The Museum is free on Sundays.
**Parking**
The short answer here is that you can park for free (in the Safe Auto lot) when you visit the Museum on weekends.
The longer answer is that the Museum has a dedicated parking lot, whose entrance and exit are on E Gay St, just north of Broad St. You can see this parking lot [here on Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Columbus+Museum+Of+Art+Parking/@39.9648853,-82.9882364,18.67z/data=!4m14!1m7!3m6!1s0x883888d20177f111:0xbf595a71d9d8c8c5!2sColumbus+Museum+of+Art!8m2!3d39.9642074!4d-82.9878972!16zL20vMDM0Z3F6!3m5!1s0x883888d21f05e00f:0xb72a56e4ac2d4fba!8m2!3d39.9651763!4d-82.9881746!16s%2Fg%2F11f3pdx3tx?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D).
This parking has normally been $7, unless you buy something either in the Museum's gift shop or café, in which case it's $5 (you have to bring your receipt to the Museum's front desk to get this discount).
However, the Museum is currently in the process of upgrading their parking lot's intercom (or some such), and until such time as this is completed, parking in this lot is free. Once this upgrade is complete, though, the charge is likely to increase from $7 to $10.
This upgrade is supposed to be done by the time we run this event, but given how these things work, I wouldn't be totally surprised if it's not complete by then. You'll know the lot is free if the gate arms to both the entrance and exit are fixed in a raised position when you arrive.
However, there's a large parking lot for Safe Auto on the other side of N Washington Ave, between Boone St and Hutton Pl. You can see this parking lot [here on Google Maps](https://www.google.com/maps/place/39%C2%B057'54.4%22N+82%C2%B059'13.9%22W/@39.9651069,-82.9884087,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m4!3m3!8m2!3d39.965105!4d-82.987191?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D).
Visitors to the Museum may always park for free in this lot on weekends.
**The End of History**
After completing our dissertation in [Art Appreciation](https://www.facebook.com/groups/879880336006462/posts/1734229683904852/), we'll head over to the highly-rated [Gemüt Biergarten](https://www.gemutbiergarten.com/) for [drinks and food](https://www.gemutbiergarten.com/#full-menu). The brewery is located in [Olde Towne East](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Olde+Towne+East,+Columbus,+OH/@39.9600896,-82.9935095,14z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x883888c29b9d98cb:0x55fc96810facc832!8m2!3d39.9579938!4d-82.9761254!16s%2Fm%2F026vlz4?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D), and its actual address is [734 Oak St, Columbus, OH 43205](https://www.google.com/maps/place/734+Oak+St,+Columbus,+OH+43205/@39.9633755,-82.9808618,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x883888c53426d289:0x4aec638d8a5195d4!8m2!3d39.9633755!4d-82.9808618!16s%2Fg%2F11c4wy250w?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MTIwOS4wIKXMDSoKLDEwMDc5MjA3MUgBUAM%3D).
Gemüt Biergarten has a free parking lot that isn't small but also isn't huge. Street parking, however, is always free across Columbus on [Sundays and holidays](https://www.columbus.gov/files/sharedassets/city/v/1/public-service/right-of-way-permit/on-street-parking-out-of-service-policy-and-procedure-final-8.15.2022-signed.pdf), so I think we'll be okay with parking.
The bigger issue may be the weather. The brewery has a good-sized outdoor patio that is covered and heated in the winter. However, that doesn't mean this patio will be warm.
The inside of the brewery is "okay-sized," but again, the brewery is popular and by the time we get there, we may have no choice but to sit outside. If it's cold, I can and will ask them to fire up some of their additional outdoor heaters, which I think should be enough, but please bring something to keep you warm just in case we end up outside.
Finally, while food at the Biergarten can be a little overpriced, in my experience it is excellent, and you are likely to enjoy whatever you get. We should be there by 1:00 if you can't make the Museum and just want to meet us for drinks.

HTML5 Master Series (Class 01 of 04) (SPECIAL OFFERING)
**PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT NOTES:**
1. The dates listed for this series are about 95% reliable. We are completing our 2026 schedule as we speak, so minor adjustments are still occurring.
2. Each class in this series has an attendance fee, though this first offering is free on a first-come, first-served basis.
3. Each class, from BOTH a sign-up and fee perspective, is a separate entity.
**Introduction:**
HTML5 is the foundational technology for modern web development, serving as the standard markup language for structuring and presenting content on the World Wide Web. Developed through a collaboration between the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG), HTML5 provides a robust system of elements (tags) that tell a browser how to display text, images, and multimedia in a clear and meaningful way. It works in concert with Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for presentation and JavaScript for interactivity, forming the core technology stack for virtually all websites and many web applications today.
One of the significant advancements of HTML5 is the introduction of powerful new features and elements designed to improve functionality and simplify development. Key additions include native multimedia support via the \ and \ tags, allowing developers to embed media without third-party plugins. It also offers new form controls for better user input, such as date and email types, and introduces web storage capabilities to store data offline for enhanced performance. These features streamline the process of building rich, interactive web experiences.
A significant focus of HTML5 is enhanced semantics and better structural organization of content. New semantic elements like , , , , and \ provide meaningful structure to documents, which aids in search engine optimization (SEO) and improves accessibility for assistive technologies. These elements define different parts of a webpage (e.g., a header for the top, a nav for navigation links, a footer for the bottom), making the code more readable and understandable for both developers and machines. This emphasis on clear structure helps in creating more logical and maintainable websites.
Developing websites in today's competitive environment requires taking advantage of every technique you can to get the maximum exposure possible. Our HTML5 class will not only show you what's new in the HTML specification, but also the best way to develop optimized web pages that get the attention your client and/or company requires.
**The breakdown of the four-class series is as follows:**
**Class 1: Introduction to Web Structure and Basic HTML5**
This class introduces the core concepts of web development, the history of HTML, and the fundamental structure of an HTML5 document.
* **Topics**:
* **Web Architecture Overview**: How browsers, servers, and web pages interact.
* **HTML Fundamentals**: Understanding elements, tags, and attributes.
* **Basic Document Structure**: Using !DOCTYPE html, html, head, and body.
* **Text Formatting**: Headings (h1 to h6), paragraphs (p), and text-level semantics (e.g., strong, em, br).
* **Lists and Links**: Creating ordered (ol) and unordered (ul) lists, and linking between pages using anchor tags (a).
* **Activity**: Students create a basic personal webpage containing text, a list of hobbies, and a link to an external website.
**Class 2: Semantic HTML5 and Multimedia Integration**
Class 2 focuses on modern HTML5 elements that provide meaning (semantics) to content, improving accessibility and search engine optimization. It also covers adding images and multimedia.
* **Topics**:
* **Semantic Elements**: Understanding and implementing elements like header, footer, nav, section, and article.
* **Images**: Adding images using the img tag and attributes like src, alt, width, and height.

**Class 3: Forms and User Input**
This session is dedicated to building interactive HTML5 forms, which are essential for capturing user data and input.
* **Topics**:
* **Form Basics**: Using the form element, action and method attributes.
* **Input Types**: Exploring various input types (e.g., text, password, checkbox, radio, date, submit).

The final class introduces Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to style the HTML content and make the web pages visually appealing and accessible.
* **Topics**:
* **CSS Fundamentals**: The role of CSS, selectors, properties, and values.
* **Integrating CSS**: Using inline, internal, and external style sheets.
* **The Box Model**: Understanding margin, padding, border, and content for basic layout.
* **Basic Styling**: Changing colors, fonts, and text alignment.
* **Accessibility Basics**: Identifying principles of web design usability and accessibility, including ARIA labels.
* **Activity**: Students apply an external CSS file to their Class 3 form project to style the layout, colors, and fonts, culminating in a well-structured and styled webpage.
Self-Love: Confidence Through Expression
Confidence can be cultivated in many ways—through reflection, conversation, creativity, and practice. In this Confidence Lab session, we’ll explore one powerful pathway: **building confidence from the inside out through physical expression and movement**.
This experience is designed to help you reconnect with your body as a source of insight, self-trust, and presence. We’ll begin by grounding into what’s bringing you here, creating space to notice how your body is showing up and what it’s holding. From there, you’ll be guided through accessible movement exercises that invite awareness and choice—isolating different parts of the body, experimenting with movement, and practicing what it feels like to take up space intentionally.
Next, you’ll participate in a small-group dance lesson led in a supportive, low-pressure environment. No dance experience is needed. The focus is not on performance or perfection, but on expression, curiosity, and allowing yourself to move with confidence as you are.
We’ll close with a reflective group discussion, exploring what emerged during the experience and how these insights can be applied beyond the studio—how you inhabit your body, how you carry yourself, and how you show up in everyday life.
**What to know:**
* Wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you feel good moving in
* No dance experience required
* Light snacks and beverages will be provided
This session is for anyone interested in deepening their relationship with confidence by listening to their body, expanding their capacity for self-expression, and practicing self-love as an embodied experience.
