Teatime Talk: Dublin's Women Street Traders, 1882-1932
Teatime Talk: Dublin's Women Street Traders, 1882-1932
A ballad about street trader Molly Malone is widely regarded as Dublin’s anthem, yet the city’s relationship with the women who traded on its streets was often contentious. From 1882 onwards efforts commenced to have street traders banned alongside gentrification projects. A watershed came with the passage of the Street Trading Act of 1926. Join historian Susan Marie Martin for this talk which looks at the resistance of the traders when those with power refused to recognize them as stakeholders. What the establishment learned was that the women were prepared to engage in civil disobedience, endure violence from Gardaí and serve time in jail to both protect their livelihoods and protest what they described as ‘banishment to the slums’. Please book your ticket through the Henrietta Street website before you RSVP. When your ticket is booked: You will automatically go on the waiting list when you RSVP. Please mention in Comments when your ticket is booked. I will then move you from the waiting list to the going list. This talk starts at 6pm. We will meet at the registration desk inside No.14 Henrietta Street at 5.40pm. Susan Marie Martin is a historical sociologist. She is a guest lecturer and research project supervisor in University College Cork's Food Studies and Irish Foodways programme. This talk will take place in person on the 1st floor of the Museum and can be accessed via lift. I look forward to seeing you there.

The Talented Mr. Ripley - Bord Gáis Energy Theatre
\*\*Please book your own ticket [here](https://www.bordgaisenergytheatre.ie/show/the-talented-mr-ripley/). I'm in STALLS, Row M, Seat 25\*\* \*\*For those interested, we can meet for a drink locally beforehand. I'll post the details closer to the event date \*\* Tom Ripley is a nobody – scraping by in New York, forging signatures, telling little white lies—until a chance encounter changes everything. When a wealthy stranger offers him an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy to bring home his wayward son, Dickie Greenleaf, Tom leaps at the opportunity. But in the sun-drenched glamour of 1950s Italy, surrounded by shimmering waters and whispered secrets, Tom is seduced by the life Dickie leads—the freedom, the wealth, the effortless charm. Fascination turns to obsession, and as his grip tightens on Dickie’s world, the lines between truth and deception begin to blur. What starts as an innocent opportunity spirals into a chilling game of lies, identity theft, and murder. The ten-strong ensemble cast is led by **Ed McVey** as Tom Ripley. **Ed** was one of the stars of the hit Netflix show *The Crown*. EastEnders regular and *Strictly Come Dancing* finalist **Maisie Smith** will star alongside him as Marge. This electrifying new stage adaptation of **THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY** brings Patricia Highsmith’s iconic psychological thriller, which inspired the acclaimed movie and Netflix series of the same name, to life like never before. With razor-sharp dialogue, simmering tension, and a dangerously charismatic antihero, this gripping production will pull you into Ripley’s intoxicating world—where nothing is quite as it seems.

Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
Celebrate National Chip and Dip Day!
***Okay, call me crazy but you have got to try their chip n dip!*** Club 185 is a true hidden gem in German Village! Seriously, old school, good comfort food and drink. We will try to gather in spaces near the windows. While we'll share Chip n Dip, you'll want to order a sandwich, too. **Where the Chip Began (1817)** Potato chips can be traced back to an English chef, William Kitchiner, who includes ‘crisps’ in his bestselling cookbook, “The Cook’s Oracle.” **Chip and Dip Popularity** The popularity of chip and dip skyrockets at the end of World War II with new entertainment fads and the introduction of Lipton’s new advertising campaign for their famous French Onion Dip. (Club 185 doesn't openly admit it, but I'm pretty sure that's their dip recipe!) **[Club 185](http://club185.com/)**—a true neighborhood bar serving since 1954, when it was known as a local 'speak-easy'. Located in German Village, Club 185 features a menu of quality casual comfort food and full bar. From politicians to lawyers, hardhats to hipsters—all find Club 185 the perfect place to tame their hunger and quench their thirst! **PARKING**: I know, brick street parallel parking can be a pain. Two other choices, metered parking along Livingston heading towards Children's Hospital or across the street in the large church lot (park in spaces farthest away from the church entrance doors, closer to the street). **PRE-EVENT**: **HAPPY HOUR (3-5pm)**: Italian drinks and bites at [Cento's happy hour](https://centogermanvillage.com/menus/), nearby.
CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
CBusData - Discover the Power of Window Functions
Window functions have nothing to do with the Windows operating system but provide a “window” to a result set when used in SQL queries. They are powerful, set-based methods to view data in unexpected ways. Window functions provide easy, set-based solutions to solve some common problems: * Using running totals * Performing operations in intervals * Identifying data gaps and islands * Performing aggregates without losing detail Many people are confused by window functions and do not know how to use them properly. This session will explore window functions, how they work, and how to use them. Demonstrations with several examples will solidify how window functions can simplify queries and make them more powerful.
