Arrowhead Fire & Ice
**Please note the only way to register for this adventure is on [our website.](https://www.wildernessunion.com/adventures/arrowhead-2026-1)**
***Open for just a few weeks each year, come explore this famous, torch-lit skating trail in Arrowhead Provincial Park***
Step into the magical, famous and otherworldly Fire and Ice nights. Imagine skating through thickly-forested trails illuminated by innumerable tiki torches burning in stunning contrast to the winter chill. This is a must-try fairy-tale experience through the rich forests of Muskoka.
Before skating begins, we'll head up to Arrowhead in the day and hike a couple of trails that showcase some of Arrowhead's most spectacular scenery. As the sun sets, we'll change into our skates and take to the ice.
Skating in the park is suitable for people of all levels. Ice skates are available for rental (around $15) at the park. After a couple of hours skating, we'll head back home for a late arrival back in Toronto.
**Depending on snow levels we may be required to use snowshoes or ice spikes. We have a limited quantity available that you can grab at check-out. Ice spikes are free to borrow and snow shoes can be rented for a small fee.**
**Highlights**
**Night Skating:** Glide over winding, frozen trails with the night sky triumphantly shining above you.
**Torch-Lit Scenery:** Take in the beautiful contrast of burning flames and shimmering ice as your path ahead is lit up by a warm, orange glow.
**Frozen Waterfalls:** The ultimate battle between gravity and cold temperatures plays out in dramatic fashion.
**Event cost: Starting at $60+HST - optional transport available.**

**About Wilderness Union**
Wilderness Union is deliberate about building an outdoors community that connects you to the life-changing magic of the outdoors and helps you find your people.
Members range from 20-40 years old. The group is a mix of GTA locals and newcomers to Toronto from within Canada and abroad.
Attendance numbers on Meetup don't reflect our actual event attendance - we typically have 15-20 community members at each event. Large enough that there's someone new to meet but small enough that it's not overwhelming!

Saturday Writing Meetup – near Bloor-Yonge
\*\*NOTE: This meetup currently lacks a regular host. (The current hosts are volunteers for online organizational purposes; they show up in person occasionally.) If you arrive and there is no host, don’t worry. Whoever is the longest-running member (or whoever wants to) can set the timer for the writing session. In this way, the meetup is self-sustaining, and not dependent on any one person. Thanks for your understanding.\*\*
Join us for an hour of quiet writing, followed by an hour of (optional) socializing.
\*\*SILENT WRITING BEGINS AT 1:15 PM. IF YOU'RE LATE, WELCOME! WE WILL IGNORE YOU (BECAUSE WE'RE BUSY WRITING) UNTIL 2:15 PM.\*\*
This meetup is open to everyone, whether you’re writing a novel, blog, class paper, or journal entry—or something completely different. Anyone interested is welcome to attend :)
LOCATION:
5 Elements Cafe, basement level
RSVP:
Please be advised that seating is first-come, first-served, even if you have RSVP'd. Seats are not reserved and we can't control how many other people are in the cafe.
We recommend coming down to the basement to grab a spot before you buy anything, just in case.
SCHEDULE:
1:00 to 1:15 PM: Arrive and get settled in.
1:15 to 2:15 PM: Write in silence for an hour.
\*\*If you arrive after 1:15, please silently find your own place to sit. We'll welcome you to join the group at 2:15.\*\*
2:15 PM: Introduce yourself.
We'll go in a circle; just say your name and 1–2 sentences about what you're writing.
(E.g., "I'm Rudolph and I'm writing a non-fiction book about reindeer.")
2:20 PM onwards: Chill/leave.
Chat, hang out, keep writing if you want, leave whenever.
Shut Up & Write — West Queen West (1.5 hours)
Come join us at the lovely, well-lit, and cozy Theatre Centre Cafe for an hour and a half of silent writing (on whatever writing projects you will)! After silent writing is done, feel free to stay and chat or go as you please.

❄️⛳️ Don Valley Golf Course Winter Walk with lunch at Swiss Chalet!
❄️⛳️ **Don Valley Golf Course Winter Walk**
**Yes, we’re walking a golf course. In winter. Because we can.**
Did you know that in the winter you can actually **walk the paths of Toronto-owned golf courses**? No golfers, no carts — just wide open space, fresh air, and a completely different way to experience the city. It feels a little bit sneaky, a little bit special, and very *“I didn’t know you could do that.”*
Join us for a **short, easy 90-minute winter walk** through **Don Valley Golf Course**. It’s something different, surprisingly peaceful, and a great excuse to get outside when most people are hiding indoors. The trails may have snow, the air will be crisp, and yes — **it will be cold**… but that’s part of the fun.
There is **no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing options**. Dress properly and you’ll be totally fine — maybe even smug about it 😏❄️
Miss this and you’ll later say, *“Wait… you walked a golf course??”*
***
🍗 **LUNCH AFTER**
After the walk, join us for **lunch at Swiss Chalet** — always a group favourite with warm food, fair prices, and cozy winter vibes.
*(You don’t have to join for lunch, but it’s highly recommended.)*
***
⚠️ **IMPORTANT NOTES**
• If the **TTC is closed** this weekend, we’ll move the event to another date
• This walk happens in **cold and snow**
• **Do not sign up** if you’re not ready to walk in winter
• Event will only be cancelled if it reaches **-20°C**

📍 **MEETUP LOCATION**
I’ll be waiting **near the Shell gas station**, wearing my **famous Moose Hat** 🦌
(Easy to spot, even in a snowstorm.)
***

• Gloves & hat

In-Person Writing Sprints
Struggling with motivation and focus as you hammer away on your manuscript at home? Want to join a community of writers as we embrace the joys and pains (mostly pains) of writing together?
Bring your laptop, pen & paper, old-school typewriter, or futuristic writing gadget, and join an enthusiastic community of science fiction and fantasy writers as we work on our current projects in the same space. The format will be similar to our online writing sprints: 30-minute blocks of focused, quiet writing time (the sprints), interspersed with breaks where we can chat, ask questions, and share our writing experiences.
Snow loops of Detonia Park (4.5 km)
Golf courses are not just for golf. In winter, city-owned courses become cross-country skiing and snowshoeing territory. Detonia Park is one of them and is also the closest to a subway station. There's also good food nearby.
After romping through the golf course, we'll head west to another potentially snow-covered field. Then, it's on to Little Bangladesh along Danforth Avenue, where you can check out Bengali supermarkets and snacks. The hike ends at a Bangladeshi restaurant.
This event depends on snow. If there is heavy snowfall, you can ski or showshoe the golf course portion of the hike. Walking in the snow loops is not recommended. If you must, wear muck boots and traction aids. If there is no snow and ice, we'll just walk.
After the golf course, the rest of the route is on foot.
**Highlights**
1. Detonia Park Golf Course car park (depart 12pm)
2. Golf turf blanketed in snow (or barren and grey)
3. Crescent Town
4. Shohid Minar
5. Adi Bikrampur Sweets (depart 1:05pm)
6. Bangladeshi supermarkets
7. Shaad Restaurant (arrive 1:30pm)
**Neighbourhoods**
Oakridge > Crescent Town > Taylor-Massey
