Folk Devils - Mask Making Workshop
Folk Devils - Mask Making Workshop
**Welcome to a new Mask-making Workshop!** As Carnival approaches, we are excited to invite you to a new, two-day hands-on mask-making workshop inspired by folk devils, spirits, and popular mythological figures from Latin America and Central America. This workshop combines cultural references, imagination, and craft, inviting participants to create their own expressive folk mask using recycled materials. No previous experience is required. In this context, devils are not symbols of evil. They represent creative **chaos, irony, protection, transformation, and vital force.** These figures often blur the line between human, animal, and spirit, appearing as guardians of the land, playful tricksters, or exaggerated reflections of social power and fear. **Day 1: Symbols, Archetypes & Design** We begin with a short cultural introduction about what the “devil” represents in Latin American folk traditions. We will explore visual examples from traditional masks and popular celebrations: folk spirits, tricksters, and hybrid animal–human figures. We will then choose a personal archetype to work with. Using a template as a base, and through quick sketches, we will design and define: • Expression: rage, irony, mystery, laughter. • Horns, nose, fangs, beard, beaks, ears, snouts • Human, animal, or hybrid forms By the end of Day 1, each participant will have a clear mask concept and begin **building the base structure with recycled cardboard and paper-maché**, which will be left to dry before the second session. **Day 2 — Painting & Finishing** We will bring the masks to life through finishing, colour, textures, and expressive accents. You will get insights on choosing your colour palette, mixing colours and painting with acrylic to get different finishing effects. The workshop closes with a collective sharing moment, where participants can present the character, spirit, or creature behind their mask. **Dates:** Friday 20 + 27.02.26 from 5 to 8PM. **Address:** In Friedrichshain. Exact address by e-mail. **Price:** 110€/ 90€ for regular students. Materials are included as well as drinks and snacks. **Materials:** All basic materials are included (Cardboard, paper, paste, papier-mâché, acrylic colours, fabric and thread, natural elements such as seeds, wood, fibres, or decorative details) We encourage you to bring your unique elements (your own special colours, personal materials or objects, small found items, fabrics, feathers, textures, or symbolic elements connected to your mask) **How to sign up?** Please send an email to **hola.berlinartclub@gmail.com,** and you will receive the registration form with all the details of payment and the exact address. Limited spots. A special preview on Friday
A special preview on Friday
Hi everyone, this is an invite for film fans.

this Friday will be the premiere of a short movie from a Brazilian director first, called "Antropico" and then screen “M” by Fritz Lang – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder (DE with EN subtitles), which will be accompanied by an analysis from The Yaaba Film Company and a group discussion on the moral, social, and psychological questions raised through the film.
We would love to have someone from your community joining us there!

Tickets are €13, but include Italian food throughout the night to feed your movie hunger: https://luma.com/k7fc9uvu Program 📅 Date: February 20th 🕡 Doors open: 6:00 PM ✨ We look forward to watching, thinking, and exchanging with you. Ort betahaus | Moritzplatz Lobeckstraße 30, 10969 Berlin, Deutschland Program flow 6:30 PM — Introduction Presentation by Weavii Dalila Cataldi and Fabio Muroni from Weavii will introduce the event and welcome the audience. 6:45 PM — Short film Premiere “Antropico” by Matheo Fernandes (a Brazilian Film Director) First Official Public Screening of “Antropico” More about Matheo Fernandes: https://matheofernandes.com/ About “Antropico”: In an indigenous land threatened by the presence of white settlers, Maria, an eighty-year-old artisan, confronts the pain of losing her husband. Months after his death, she awakens from a deep lethargy and decides to paint. Determined to overcome her existential near-death, Maria channels her sorrow into creating a work that may be one of her last ones. This project was made possible with the support of the Brazilian Government, through the Ministry of Culture, with resources from the Paulo Gustavo Law (Lei Paulo Gustavo 2024). 7:15 PM — Short presentation by The Yaaba Film Company Geronimo Coiro, Akvile Dubinskaite and Emre ACI will introduce The Yaaba Film Company to the audience. Ok 7:30 PM — Official screening “M” by Fritz Lang – Eine Stadt sucht einen Mörder (DE with EN subtitles) Geronimo Coiro of The Yaaba Film Company will lead audiences into the unsettling world of Fritz Lang’s M, examining the moral, social, and psychological questions Lang sought to confront through the film. The discussion will explore what Lang expected audiences to wrestle with after leaving the cinema—particularly the private, uneasy conversations about justice, guilt, collective responsibility, and the nature of evil that M provokes. Special attention will be given to Lang’s groundbreaking use of sound, narrative structure, and visual design in M, including his innovative approach to off-screen space, silence, and parallel editing, all of which deepen the film’s ethical tension. Geronimo will engage with M as if in a real-time dialogue with Fritz Lang, treating the film as an active conversation—questioning its assumptions, responding to its provocations, and tracing how its ideas continue to resonate with contemporary audiences. The film encourages us to compare the past and the present, revealing both social change and enduring themes that continue to resonate today. 9:30 PM — Discussion & open exchange with the audience Delicious Italian food will be provided to keep you well nourished for a great night of film! Drinks will also be available to purchase on site. About Weavii Weavii is a Berlin-based platform and community connecting artists, businesses, and cultural spaces to create meaningful collaborations. Blood on the Clocktower at BRLO Brwhaus!! (beginner/intermediate)
Blood on the Clocktower at BRLO Brwhaus!! (beginner/intermediate)
*Trialing a new location now that Brewdog has closed, please bear with us while we get back on our feet :)* Hi folks, this is the special meetup group for the weekly Sunday Blood on the Clocktower games in Berlin, currently at BRLO Brwhaus near Potsdamer Platz. We run beginner-friendly and intermediate-level games throughout the afternoon and evening. **Friendly newcomers of all skill levels are welcome, no experience required!** Our group aims to provide a fun and welcoming space to experience this thrilling game of social deception. **We focus on promoting a positive and fun group atmosphere, where players don’t take themselves or the game too seriously, whether they’re heroically winning or spectacularly losing.** Our players follow the code of conduct for the Berlin Board Gamers group and are expected to treat each other with respect and consideration – “killing with grace, and dying with dignity”. We are usually able to offer two simultaneous games on Sundays. If you are marked as "attending" in Meetup and are in your seat at 15:00, your place is guaranteed for as long as you want to stay. All other seats are first come, first served. We always run at least one beginner-friendly game of the basic version of Clocktower ("Trouble Brewing") throughout the afternoon and evening. We also usually have enough players for a second intermediate-level game. If you are already very familiar with Clocktower, consider also joining our Tuesday meetup for advanced players, when we play with complex custom scripts and characters. Blood on the Clocktower is a deep, mechanical game of murder and mystery, lies and logic, deduction and deception… think Werewolf on steroids. Each player receives a unique secret role and plays either for the good team – the uninformed majority, gathering info and working with others to solve the puzzle – or the evil team, the informed minority, scheming to eliminate good players and protect their demon from execution. In our beginner games no prior experience is expected and we will gladly explain the game rules to any newcomers. We play in English so players should be able to understand and express themselves in English: an exception is possible for one pair of players willing to play together (as a “Revolutionary” pair) where one player can interpret into and out of English. Please let us know in advance if this is the case.
Lazy Saturday Liar Games
Lazy Saturday Liar Games
Saturday afternoon is perfect to play some lazy liar games, if you have nothing better to do. We are a group of friendly people who will teach you how to play these easy social deduction games . Amazing way to meet new people and have some good company during weekend. **IMPORTANT** It's relaxed playing, nothing for ambitious gamers or people who take it too serious. Waiting list policy: When spots open up, we try to bring in a good mix — some regulars we can count on and some new faces to keep things fresh. That means not everyone will get picked every time, but don’t take it the wrong way — it’s just about balance. There’ll always be more chances to join!

The Fisherman by John Langan
The Fisherman by John Langan
Join us for The Fisherman by John Langan. In upstate New York, in the woods around Woodstock, Dutchman's Creek flows out of the Ashokan Reservoir. Steep-banked, fast-moving, it offers the promise of fine fishing, and of something more, a possibility too fantastic to be true. When Abe and Dan, two widowers who have found solace in each other's company and a shared passion for fishing, hear rumors of the Creek, and what might be found there, the remedy to both their losses, they dismiss it as just another fish story. Soon, though, the men find themselves drawn into a tale as deep and old as the Reservoir. It's a tale of dark pacts, of long-buried secrets, and of a mysterious figure known as Der Fisher: the Fisherman. It will bring Abe and Dan face to face with all that they have lost, and with the price they must pay to regain it.

Il Sorpasso (The Easy Life)
Il Sorpasso (The Easy Life)
A classic Italian road comedy that was so good the film ministry recognized it as "culturally significant." Starring Vittorio Gassman and Jean-Louis Trintignant, the film shows that for young men in love the rules of the road are only suggestions. And the rules for love? Hey, this is an Italian picture! Oh to be young and filled with joie de vivre or la dolce vita. A french/italian fun filled movie with a surprising twist at the end. Do you have a fun memory from your youth? Location TBD, but it will be in person for sure!
