Shut Up & Write!® - Sundays at Café Pierre
Come write with us at Cafe Pierre every Sunday at 18:00-20:00!
A message from Shut Up & Write: "Shut Up & Write hosts free, in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer—regardless of genre or skill level—has access to the resources, community, and accountability that they need to be successful in their personal writing goals."
And what this looks like at our event: We chat and give short introductions to what we are working on at 18:00, then start writing at 18:15. Though we try to start on dot, being late isn't a problem—just find a spot and get to work! We write until 20:00 and then discuss how our writing went. From fiction to non-fiction, academic papers to poetry, applications to work-related writing—anything goes! Nothing is needed except for you to bring whatever is need to get stuff done, i.e. laptop, headphones, pen and paper, and so on.
Optional socialising may happen before 18:00 and after 20:00, or you may choose to use this time to get some more done! Please do order something from the café (drink, meal, dessert, etc.) so as to keep us in their good graces!
The Inner Pilgrimage - A Meaningful Start into 2026
### A Contemplative Retreat for Inner Peace and Strength in a Demanding Life
### As one year quietly fades…
and another gently approaches…
there’s often a subtle pull inside.
A sense…
that we don’t want to fall back
into the same old rhythms,
the familiar patterns,
the expectations that no longer feel alive.
Something in us wants to begin differently —
more consciously,
more meaningfully.
And for many of us,
after years of building,
achieving,
and doing everything we once hoped for…
another question begins to whisper underneath it all:
**What truly matters now?**
When the striving softens,
and the world finally grows quiet…
a deeper longing rises.
Not for more to accomplish.
Not for more to manage.
But for something real.
Something that feels like truth.
**The Inner Pilgrimage** is for these exact moments —
when freedom feels strangely heavy,
when the old tools no longer bring clarity,
when the next step is no longer outward…
but inward.
It isn’t about resolutions.
It isn’t about goals.
It isn’t about pushing harder.
It’s about listening again.
It’s about coming home to yourself before the year unfolds.
It’s about giving yourself a gentle, meaningful inner boost —
so you can begin 2026 grounded, clear, aligned…
and quietly connected to what truly matters.
### **Essence**
In a world that constantly asks for more —
more effort,
more speed,
more responsibility —
this weekend offers a simple invitation:
Pause.
Breathe.
Come home.
**The Inner Pilgrimage** is not a journey outward.
It is a soft descent inward —
into stillness,
into presence,
into the quiet clarity that has been waiting beneath the noise.
You won’t be traveling far.
But you may return changed.
This is a space to rest.
To listen.
To rediscover the strength and peace within you
that daily life so easily consumes.
> The most meaningful journeys are not those that take us far away,
> but those that bring us deeply home.
## **Program Overview**
The morning begins slowly.
A settling.
A gentle arriving into your body, your breath, your presence.
* A welcome into stillness
* A quiet talk: *What does it mean to walk a pilgrimage of the soul?*
* Guided inner reflection: *Where am I on my path right now*
* Time for journaling, sensing, or resting
* A soft morning of wordless presence — a Vigil of Stillness
Short lunch break,
softened…
opened…
ready for a different kind of listening.
###
The afternoon continues in quiet.
Not with effort,
but with ease.
* A meditation
* A talk: *Coming home — living from what you discovered*
* A gentle dialogue circle or short reflective moments
* Tea shared in silence
* Time for integration, writing, or contemplation
* A symbolic closing ritual
* Ending the day in silence, presence, and gratitude
You return to your life
not with pressure,
but with clarity…
with strength…
with a renewed sense of direction from within.
### **Atmosphere**
Soft.
Unhurried.
Warm.
Human.
A space where silence isn’t empty —
it’s full of something deeper.
A space where you don’t have to perform,
pretend,
or hold yourself together.
Just be.
As you are.
Light, healthy snacks will be offered
as a small act of *mindful feasting* —
simple, nourishing, grounding.
Nothing loud.
Nothing forced.
Just presence,
warmth,
and the quiet company of others
walking their own inner path.

Solo travellers: casual hangout in Vienna (4pm)
**No pressure, no plan—just new friends** ✨
Whether you’re visiting Vienna for the first time, recently relocated, or simply love connecting with curious people, this weekly meetup is the perfect way to share stories, make friends, and go explore, as a group, the magic that Vienna has to offer 🇦🇹
**What to expect?**
• **Casual & hostless**: no formal host, no schedule: just show up, be yourself, meet fellow solo travellers & expats and decide as a group where you feel like going
• **Central meeting point**: it is surrounded by cultural landmarks, cafes, and restaurants, making it a convenient and safe starting point.
• **Open to everyone**: whether you are a local, an expat or just passing through for a few days, you are welcome to join. (English is the primary language, but feel free to switch of course)
**How to talk with strangers?**
(and create meaningful connections)
To help you get started, I curated a little game of **[ridiculously good questions](https://www.pierrebonvalot.com/theblog?p=285a9711d7df80d5ac25dd4ef8fe5394&pm=c)** you can ask to break the ice, shift the conversation from dull to intriguing and fun, and eventually create meaningful connection quickly. I hope this helps!
**The only things you need to do are…**
• Leave a message in the comment section to let the others know that you will actually be there (I don’t want you to end up alone there :)
• If you can’t make it anymore, no problem! But please update your RSVP to let the others know
• Please be gentle and patient with each other. We all want to make good friends here.
**Why join?**
• Meet open-minded travellers and locals who are keen to connect, learn and have fun together.
• Experience Vienna... as a group.
• Be part of a global community that celebrates solo travelling and meaningful connections between foreign and locals.
**How does it works?**
1\. Arrive at the meeting spot at the scheduled time\.
2\. Look for other joiners—friendly faces and curious explorers\.
3\. Introduce yourself\, connect with others\, and decide as a group where to go\.
**When & where?**
• Day: every Sunday
• Time: 4:00 PM (meetup sometimes displays a different time zone: but it’s always 4pm local time)
• Location: in front of the Mozart Monument inside the Burggarten
**Hostless**: I am setting up the event for you all to meet, but I won't be there myself this time :)
**Hi my names is Pierre**
I created this Meetup group because I want to see more human connection happen in the real world. I feel many of us want this, but don't exactly know how to go about it. I hope this helps a little bit.
I also work as a transformational coach: I help people who feel stuck in their life to reconnect with themselves, create real change and ultimately live more fulfilling lives.

The Big Speed Friending ⭐ (BINGO EDITION; indoors)
--
**UPDATE: this time we'll still do our usual format of group conversation. The new Bingo concept we're excited about, is taking more time to develop, but stay tuned for next time! Also, we're indoors at a new location (Jo&Joe's 5th floor, see itinerary).**
Are you ready to mingle and make new friends?
A YouTuber visited us and made [this 3-minute video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eG1dYro4u8) 😃👌
**"How does it work?"**
We'll talk in small groups and change every \~10 minutes. After an hour we'll let you mingle freely (and exchange contact info if you like).
**"10 minutes, is that enough to make a new friend?**"
It's enough to see who you vibe with. As one of you said: "There were 4 people I really vibed with. I took their contact info, and I met them for coffee in the following days."
**"Can I bring friends?"**
Great idea! 😃
**"Can I give you feedback about the event?"**
Yes, keep the ideas coming!
**"Give me some great conversation starters!"**
\- A round where everyone names 2 of their favorite interests and why \(or your favorite things to do in Vienna\)

We play on one court with 4 (maybe 5) players.
**Price**
* 17-21 € for 2h depending on number of players
* If you need a racket, you can rent it from me for 2 €
* You can pay via Revolut, PayPal, instant Bank Transfer or Cash. I prefer transfer over cash.
*
**Equipment**
* I provide balls (usually Bullpadel Next)
* If you need a racket, you can rent it from me for 2 € (limited number available). You can also rent a racket from the venue for 5 €
**Cancellation**
* Please cancel at least 10h before the event, to give people on the wait list the chance to jump in. Otherwise a late cancellation fee of 10 € must be paid.

* Late Cancellation fees will be donated to Médecins Sans Frontières (Ärzte ohne Grenzen).

**Important**
* Playing competitive is allowed (Smashing balls, hitting balls close to opponent player etc.)
* We still value fair play and sportsmanship.
* Having fun together is way more important as winning.
**Other information**

* The host or regular players can ask misbehaving players to step out from the court
* The venue has changing rooms and showers free of charge (for the lockers you have to bring your own padlock)
* If you have questions, you can send me a message any time. I speak german too.

Studio Photography Workshop #2 Lets make creative portraits
This time I booked a studio for 5 hours so we have a lot of time to experiment. It's a great opportunity to train yourself with working with light and also get a couple of portraits for yourself.
We will start with simpler shots and then get to photograph more abstract and creative concepts.
Each of us will have about 15 minutes to photograph and try out different light setups and also can jump in for a quick picture in between.
I see it as us changing setup several times and taking a few shots in each colour/light variation.
Feel free to bring your snacks and drinks!
Optional If you are not a photographer but would like a portrait of you in a studio almost for free I will keep 3 places open specifically for this.

Sunday Screenings in the Living Room
Weekly screenings from a large archive of many of the most significant, yet seldom seen and rarely accessible cinematic masterpieces in the history of film - from its earliest beginnings to the present day. Screenings are in original language, if English, or original language with English subtitles.
Films are selected democratically on the inspiration of a brief pre-screening discussion. The selected title is typically a "neglected gem" that most of us discover together for the first time. Individual taste is not a criterion and all participants are expected to put the interests of the group as a whole above personal preference or prejudice. In this sense, the emphasis is on openness, exploration, and surprise. Each screening is followed by an in-depth group discussion, led and mediated by the curator.
WARNNG: FilmStory is not just about watching movies! Rather, it's a socially responsible, intellectual engagement, involving an organic approach to group study of film language, philosophy, art, history, politics, and technology. In this sense, the film is always merely the current highlight in an explorative, ongoing group discussion.
**FilmStory** is a members-only series that involves a closely knit community of cinephiles. Events take place every Sunday in a comfortable, private setting with limited capacity. Participation is reserved primarily for regular members, but we're always ready to make new friends!
Non-regular members may request to meet the community and, upon acceptance as a "new joiner," are welcome to participate in one event, according to space availability. New joiners are asked to make a €6 member dues contribution in advance of the requested date. New members receive a message of confirmation and the address of the Living Room in 1080 Vienna upon receipt of their dues contribution.
**FilmStory** is presented and hosted by **[KulturSalon Wien](https://www.meetup.com/kultursalon-wien/)**.
Weekly Sunday Ice Bathing in the Danube 🧊
**Weekly Sunday cold plunge in the Danube.**
Come with us for a swim or just a dip in the Danube to test your limits and build your resilience to cold!
**The water is going to be** around **5°C or a bit less.** (We're in single digits! 🥶)
**Bring your swimsuit, towel, and warm clothes.** If you want, you can also bring extras like warm water (to pour over your feet after the dip to warm up faster), tea, snacks, water shoes, hat — anything that makes the experience more comfortable or fun for you and others!
**The approximate timeline:**
11:00 meeting at the Danube shore
11:10 [breathing exercise](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tybOi4hjZFQ) (voluntary, possible to skip, but recommended)
11:20 going into water
11:40 warming up & chatting
12:00 end
We’ve been meeting for a couple of years, and our community is growing: our **WhatsApp group has around 100 members**. Join us there in the **YesTheory Austria** group, then find the **“[Projekt Kaltwasserbaden](https://chat.whatsapp.com/Ekklar7KJdx55hs1U6esUw?mode=wwc)”** subgroup to stay updated and connected. **(The link should finally work!)**
The number of people who come varies from **a few to 10+**, but don't worry if you don't know anyone, **everyone is welcome**. You can also **bring your friends** of course!
**Come try it out, meet new people, and take your first step into the world of ice bathing!**
Immersion Milonga ✨ A monthly space for connection and encounter in Vienna

Ruins, Temples & Winter Magic
Hi everyone!
On **Sunday, January 18, 2026**, I am planning a beautiful winter hike from Mödling to Gumpoldskirchen. We will pass the Burgruine Mödling (Mödling Castle ruins), the Husarentempel (Temple of the Hussars: a classicist temple on a hilltop) and the Kaiser-Jubiläumswarte at Eschenkogel (Emperor's Jubilee Observation Tower).
**Meeting Point & Travel** 🚉
We will **meet at Praterstern station at 08:15 a.m.** near the ticket machines on the ground floor close to the exit to platform 1 and 2. The train S2 leaves at 08:30 a.m. (presumably Platform 1).
Please arrive a few minutes early so we can gather. We expect to arrive in Mödling at 09:05. There are regular trains back to Vienna approx. every 30minutes from Gumpoldskirchen.
**Please buy your own ticket on the day in advance**, its € 2,90 each direction so € 5,80 in total if you have already a valid ticket for Vienna.
**Hike Details** 🥾
Duration: Approx. 4.5 hours (pure walking time)
Distance: Approx. 14.2 km
Elevation: 588m up / 583m down
Difficulty: Easy (technically), but requires basic fitness.
Pace: We’ll walk at a comfortable, social pace and take short breaks as needed.
More information on the trail: [https://www.niederoesterreich.at/a-die-tuerme-des-wienerwaldes-rundkurs-tages-etappe-1](https://www.niederoesterreich.at/a-die-tuerme-des-wienerwaldes-rundkurs-tages-etappe-1)
**⚠️ Important Information**
I will send a weather update to everyone registered on Friday evening.
We’ll walk at a comfortable, social pace and take short breaks as needed. There are no huts or restaurants along the way, so please bring your own snacks and drinks (at least 1 liter of water).
It will be cold, so dress warmly and wear sturdy winter-appropriate shoes. Some sections may be covered by snow, muddy or slightly icy, depending on the weather.
Disclaimer: As always, this is a free, private leisure activity. I’m not a certified hiking guide, and participation is at your own responsibility and risk.
Looking forward to seeing you for this winter hike!
Jörg
PS: Some people from another group will also join.

[Writing Workshop Guide](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DwZnKJiIkfyJ_LrJvDCcCMWWCauWKR-LPJF3DwcKdlI/edit?usp=drivesdk)
Please read the above Workshop Guide; it covers where to upload, how much to upload, and what to do with other people's uploads. This is a document based on what we all discussed at the first meeting, but it can grow and change with us as needed.
Feel free to let me know if you have any questions! We'll still meet at Northside this time, but consider other locations as needed. See you all there!
Writer's Workshop: Learning To Write With Voice
Discover how to write with voice.
In this generative workshop, we will be working with voice and discovering how to discover what your characters want to say. This in-person session will involve writing, discovery, and voice exploration through workshopping and character practice.
Led by an agented author who works primarily through deep POV, this is a class where you can discover your character, or develop a new one!
Notebooks will be provided.
