Everyone has something to contribute or some just want to soak up the atmosphere. Either way, whether you come for half an hour or the whole day youâll feel refreshed, empowered and validated ⌠and you may have even met some of our nature spirits.
Our shop is also open (it doesnât cost anything if you just want to come and look at the shop), so remember to top up on your magical supplies while youâre here. We now also have a selection of potted herbs for sale including such magical herbs as Mugwort, Rue and Squill.

The Six menu at the second last day of IDES.
Hi all,
Note: ensure to read the RSVP rules below on how to secure your spot for this event (Ides restaurant closing) after placing your name on the waitlist.
Some may have heard of the news that IDESâ last day is on the 14th March 2026 and the early session times were quickly taken on this day after their closure announcement. https://www.broadsheet.com.au/melbourne/food-and-drink/article/peter-gunn-to-close-ides-in-march, https://www.theage.com.au/goodfood/melbourne-eating-out/it-may-have-dropped-the-degustation-and-a-hat-but-this-fine-diner-is-still-a-winner-20260119-p5nv5k.html
I managed to reserve a table of 6 for The Six sample menu at 6:30pm, Friday 13th March 2026.
Those members who attended the farewell dinner at ides 2 years ago marking the founderâs (also group organizer) resignation from her Fine Diners group, would appreciate how nice Ides restaurant was/is. On this day the new organiser/s was/were also appointed for our groupâŚthe drum rolled and coronation was officially announced.
Anyways, back to the dinner at Ides-
Steps required to secure your seat to attend this event:
â˘Payment is required in order of RSVP. (Click on the waitlist to view the number in the queue next to your name)
â˘The first 6 members on the waitlist have 48 hours to make payment in full after placing your name on waitlist
â˘If payment is not made within this timeframe, you will have to give up your sport to the next member in line (eg member on queue number 7th) or you will be removed to "not going list" and if you wish to attend, feel free to re-place your name on the going list to re-queue
â˘Once payment is received I will move your name across to the going list.
â˘Cost of dinner:
The Six set menu and the Black Box is $188.70/person including card surcharge for food only. Drinks not included and can be purchased on the evening.
>>>>If you change your mind or cancel and are not attending in less than 48 hours' notice before the scheduled event or you are at risk of a cancellation fee of the full price of the reserved menu per person.
Time etiquette:
A strict 3-hour dining time has been allocated for us. Please arrive early or on time.
(I have reserved a table for 6 - please read the RSVP rules above to lock in your spot) (Most likely I won't be able to make it, but I will be meeting you there to finalise the bill for food that you paid me once everyone is arrived and seated. Itâs similar to what I have done for the members for the Duck event at Aru last year
I hope you can make it.
Cheers,
LeAnn

Autism and Past-Life Memory: What We're Learning by Jim Matlock, PhD
**The Telepathy Tapes podcast** brought the ESP abilities of autistic children to the worldâs attention, with several studies exploring this association more closely. However, the neurological effects of autism can affect other abilities as well â like present-life memory and even past-life memories.
**Jim Matlock and his team are pioneers** in this new cutting-edge field of study - now exploring it more systematically than ever before, with new findings still coming to light.
**Some autistic people have outstanding memory** capabilities, while also struggling in other areas. But other autistic people are unable to form the basic episodic memories that underlie autobiographical recall. And research is revealing that the same factors impacting present-life memory can impact past-life memory as well.
**In this session, Jim Matlock will discuss** several case studies of autistic children and adults to describe how autobiographical past-life memories can either be suppressed or enhanced under autism.
**About Jim Matlock PhD:**
* Anthropologist and world-class reincarnation researcher
* Creator of the 'Processual Soul Theory' through his comprehensive, multicultural and interdisciplinary approach
* 45+ years involvement in parapsychology and reincarnation studies
* Editorial Board member of the *Journal of Scientific Exploration*
* Editorial Board member of the Journal of Near-Death Studies
* Research Fellow with the Parapsychology Foundation, Inc.
* Winner of 2021 Parapsychological Association Book Award for Signs of Reincarnation: Exploring Beliefs, Cases, and Theory (2019)
* Author of a multitude of academic publications on reincarnation
* Curator of top-notch FB group "Signs of Reincarnation"

Yarra and Botanics Walk discussing 'The Emperor of Gladness' by Ocean Vuong
We'll meet at the spot where Fed Square meets the Princes Bridge over the Yarra (near the pedestrian crossing closest to the river from Flinders St, on the Fed Square side).
We'll walk for about 6km along the Yarra River, through the Botanic Gardens and back along the river to Federation Square for a coffee after the walk.
This month, we're reading and talking about 'The Emperor of Gladness' by Ocean Vuong
The blurb:
"**Ocean Vuong returns with an achingly beautiful novel about chosen family, unexpected friendship, and the stories we tell ourselves in order to survive.**
One late summer evening in the post-industrial town of East Gladness, Connecticut, nineteen-year-old Hai stands on the edge of a bridge in pelting rain, ready to jump, when he hears someone shout across the river. The voice belongs to Grazina, an elderly widow succumbing to dementia, who convinces him to take another path. Bereft and out of options, he quickly becomes her caretaker. Over the course of the year, the unlikely pair develops a life-altering bond, one built on empathy, spiritual reckoning, and heartbreak, with the power to alter Haiâs relationship to himself, his family, and a community at the brink.
Following the cycles of history, memory, and time, *The Emperor of Gladness* shows the profound ways in which love, labor, and loneliness form the bedrock of American life. At its heart is a brave epic about what it means to exist on the fringes of society and to reckon with the wounds that haunt our collective soul. Hallmarks of Vuongâs writing â formal innovation, syntactic dexterity, and the ability to twin grit with grace through tenderness â are on full display in this story of loss, hope, and how far we would go to possess one of lifeâs most fleeting mercies: a second chance."
Goodreads rating: 3.93
How does a walking bookclub work?
Like a normal bookclub, we talk about the book, what else we're reading, have read, or want to read (as well as a few tangents into life outside literature!) but we do it while walking around Melbourne and then over a coffee. We often split into smaller groups as we walk, but we also regroup through the walk.
Should I read the book beforehand?
The conversation will be more interesting if you do, but you can still come along if you haven't finished it yet!
Do I need to bring anything?
**Comfy** walking shoes, drinking water, some money for coffee or a bite to eat after if you wish. No need to bring the book unless you want to.
No shows
No shows (RSVPing yes and not attending) mean the group waits unnecessarily for those who are not coming, thinking you are running a little late. Itâs absolutely fine to change your rsvp for any reason up until the walk begins, and you donât need to leave a comment, send a message or give a reason, but if you don't click that 'change rsvp' button, you may be removed from the group.
Membership Fee
Did you know that while it is free to attend most events, Meetup charges organisers about $600 a year to organise a group? Members of the Walking Book Club are asked to pay a membership fee of $10 per year (not per event) to help cover this cost. When you join the group, you'll be automatically given a three month trial so you can see what the group is like, without needing to make any payment. If you would like to continue attending events after this, please follow Meetup's instructions to pay the $6.50US/approx $10AUD fee once per year (or contact group organisers if you would prefer to make payment using paypal, payID, cash or bank transfer).

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington.
The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo.
Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine.
Weâll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you.
The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly.
Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome.
The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit.
Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for allâthe venue can be busy at times.
Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have.
Happy writing!
