The Secret Meetup
Join us for The Secret Meetup, a semi-monthly board game night at The Secret Lantern Books & Games in Cedar Park! It’s called The Secret Meetup, so you probably shouldn’t tell anyone 🤫 (…but you should absolutely tell people though).
We’re a safe, friendly, inclusive, and diverse group. New players are always welcome — we’re happy to teach games and help you find a table.
🕕 Games start at 6:00 pm and go until 10:00 pm.
📅 First meetup: Monday, March 9. This is a pilot, so potentially every other Monday after that!
📍The Secret Lantern Books and Games in Cedar Park. Housed in a former bank, this shop is now the very definition of “cozy.” Think comfy upholstered furniture, warm lighting, and tucked-away corners, perfect for settling into a long game. And yes — there’s a Vault Room, complete with massive steel door and spinning wheel handle, now reborn as one of the coolest places around to plot your next heist— err, move.
⏰ Good to know:
• You’re welcome to arrive earlier to hang out or play, but games will definitely start at 6:00 pm.
• The store opens at 10:00 am — if you want to make a whole game day of it, leave a comment!
• Coffee drinks and light food are available for purchase at the store — please support our host venue.

• Your favorite board games (optional)
• Or just bring yourself — there’s always room to join in
Whether you’re brand new to board games or a seasoned player, come roll some dice, learn something new, and enjoy a great Monday night with awesome people.

**Plotline:**
-The year is 176 and Marcus Aurelius, one of two Emperors of Rome, has been off expanding the Roman Empire.
-He has returned to the Imperial Palace in Rome to attend the birthday party of his daughter, Lucilla, and
to arrange for a loveless political marriage of his son, Commodus, to a young noble woman, Drusa Clovius.
-Whispers of powerful people and conspiracy echo through the halls of the Imperial Palace. With tensions
between rival houses already high, one more spark could ignite a civil war.
-And when Drusa is found murdered just before the engagement is made official, the pivotal occasion immediately devolves into chaos!
-Was Drusa’s death a personal vendetta, a political move, or something far darker? The suspects include senators, soldiers, gladiators, servants, and nobles alike—and all are maneuvering to protect their place in history.
-It’s up to everyone to find the killer – to get justice for the victim and to prevent a war that might bring down the Roman Empire!
🐺 Ultimate Werewolf! 🐺
**Ultimate Werewolf**
Do you enjoy lying through your teeth? Eating your friends? Leading a village to victory—or secretly founding a cult and converting it one zealot at a time? Then Ultimate Werewolf might be the game for you.
**New Players Welcome**
Newcomers are always welcome! We start with simpler games and gradually introduce more complex roles as everyone gets comfortable. If you have any questions, feel free to message me, leave a comment below, or join our **[Discord](https://discord.gg/KZWByXWD2t)**.
**How the Game Works**
In a basic game, players are secretly divided into two teams: **Villagers** and **Werewolves**. Each player receives a role card that tells them which team they’re on and whether they have special abilities.
The game is played in rounds, each with a Day and Night phase:
* **Day:** Players discuss, lie, accuse, and ultimately vote to execute one player.
* **Night:** Players “sleep” with their eyes closed while special roles act in secret—werewolves eat, and other roles use their abilities.
The first team (or unique role) to achieve its victory condition wins. With a strong emphasis on social interaction, deception, teamwork, and strategy—and over **50 different roles** supporting 20+ players—no two games are ever the same.
**Variants & House Rules**
Throughout the night I run a variety of house rules that dramatically shake up the game. Over the years, I’ve also created several custom roles, including fan favorites like The Baker and The Devil. Games typically run 15–40 minutes, depending on player count and rule set. We aim to keep things moving at a good pace so we can play 4-5 full games each event.
Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
**Meetup Fees & Venmo**

Alien Frontiers
***Alien Frontiers*** (also sometimes called "Space Yahtzee") is an easy-to-learn but strategically challenging game of dice placement, resource management, and planetary development for two to four players.
Do you have what it takes to be a deep space colonist? An alien frontier awaits the brave and daring! This new planet will be harsh, but if you have the skills to manage your resources, build a fleet, research alien life, and settle colonies, the world can be yours.
During the game you will utilize orbital facilities and alien technology to build colony domes in strategic locations to control the newly discovered world.
The game board shows the planet, its moon, the stations in orbit around the planet, and the solar system’s star. The dice you are given at the start of the game represent the space ships in your fleet. You will assign these ships to the orbital facilities in order to earn resources, expand your fleet, and colonize the planet.
As the game progresses, you will place your colony tokens on the planet to represent the amount of control you have over each territory. Those territories exert influence over specific orbital facilities and, if you control a territory, you are able to utilize that sway to your advantage.
The planet was once the home of an alien race and they left behind a wondrous artifact in orbit. Using your fleet to explore the artifact, you will discover amazing alien technologies that you can use to advance your cause.
Winning the game will require careful consideration as you assign your fleet, integrate the alien technology and territory influences into your expansion plans, and block your opponents from building colonies of their own. Do you have what it takes to conquer an alien frontier?
Roll and place your dice to gain advantages over your opponent and block them out of useful areas of the board. Use Alien Tech cards to manipulate your dice rolls and territory bonuses to break the rules. Steal resources, overtake territories, and do whatever it takes to get your colonies on the map first! Don't dream it'll be easy, though, because the other players will be trying to do the same thing.
I will be glad to teach, but I also recommend watching Tom Vasel's [how-to-play video](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9JFTzD7iPzA).

Bad Girls Book Club March 2026
**Our March pick is *God of the Woods* by Liz Moore.**
**This month’s novel is an award-winning literary mystery that blends family drama with psychological suspense. It explores women’s voices and relationships while delivering an exciting, eerie, and deeply suspenseful story. The book is 576 pages in print or 14 hours and 35 minutes on audiobook.**
Early morning, August 1975: a camp counselor discovers an empty bunk. Its occupant, Barbara Van Laar, has gone missing. Barbara isn’t just any thirteen-year-old: she’s the daughter of the family that owns the summer camp and employs most of the region’s residents. And this isn’t the first time a Van Laar child has disappeared. Barbara’s older brother similarly vanished fourteen years ago, never to be found.
As a panicked search begins, a thrilling drama unfolds. Chasing down the layered secrets of the Van Laar family and the blue-collar community working in its shadow, Moore’s multi-threaded story invites readers into a rich and gripping dynasty of secrets and second chances. It is Liz Moore’s most ambitious and wide-reaching novel yet.
