Details
Each December, we look for something unique and different.
Not to miss. Seasonal.
Handel's Messiah is divine, but what else could and should we experience? Which is 'sacred'--something connected to 'a god'

Over five decades of performance and a catalogue of award-winning recordings for Gimell, Peter Phillips and The Tallis Scholars have done more than any other group to establish sacred vocal music of the Renaissance as one of the great repertoires of Western classical music.
They have sought to bring Renaissance works to a wider audience in churches, cathedrals, and venues on every continent on the planet except Antarctica!
---These include the Royal Albert Hall, the Sistine Chapel, the Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall New York, the Philharmonic Hall Berlin, Saint Mark’s Venice, Seoul Arts Centre Korea, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall, Beijing Concert Hall, Megaron Athens, and the Opera House Sydney.
The Tallis Scholars continue to develop their exclusive sound, praised by reviewers for its supple clarity and tone, and to bring fresh interpretations to music by contemporary as well as past composers, such as Pärt, Tavener, Whitacre, Muhly, and Jackson.
Program: Mother and Child
The theme behind our seasonal program is the Virgin Mary, whether celebrating her own divinity (in the “Votive Mass” written by Byrd), or in the context of the birth of Christ (in Tallis’s epic “Missa Puer natus”).
The choice of music is taken exclusively from the English repertoire, featuring not only Renaissance masterpieces but also compositions by Britten and Matthew Martin, who we are delighted to present as our featured composer.
This commission has been made possible by Miller Theatre in New York, where it will receive its premiere.
To be sung:
Thomas Tallis: Missa Puer natus - Gloria
Thomas Byrd: Votive Mass of the Virgin
Matthew Martin: New work (commissioned by Miller Theatre at Columbia University)
Tallis: Missa Puer natus - Sanctus and Agnus
Benjamin Britten: Hymn to the Virgin
John Taverner: Mater Christi
John Nesbett: Magnificat
